Would like to stay on the lake if we're staying in that area, but this is the next best thing. The view is amazing and have yet to experience a "poor stay". I can't even tell you how many pools this place has, but know there is an indoor pool with two hot tubs and a pool with a slide that the kids (and some adults) really enjoy. The only disappointment I've had is the restaurant. We've stayed here twice, both times the food hasn't been worth the money we pay. Honestly, we'd rather drive the half hour into Meredith and pay the same for a better meal

Beautiful views of Lake Winnipesaukee and a relaxed family atmosphere. The food at the restaurant there was very good. It's a shame that they don't have a convenience store on the premises.

We loved our stay here. The room was cozy & had a whirlpool tub. The restaurant food was good & not too expensive. The highlight of the place is definitely the main pool. Would definitely stay again

Ok. So it was overall an nice resort but there were some things missing which pulled the stars to 3. The kids loved the indoor pool and slide. I had the one bedroom with the two beds and pull out. That was comfortable. The kitchenette offered utensils and appliances to allow u to make and save ur food which helps save money for a family of six. They have a main restaurant on site that was expensive and slow. There are no elevators and we had a room that was in the bottom so we had to lug our luggage up a flight of stairs and then down another flight of stairs. Amenities require some traveling. No towels for outside pool. All the indoor games require payment to play.

Smaller resort with some newer amenities. Great place to take kids as there are a variety of pools, some with slides and some specifically made for younger children. There are multiple playgrounds and the facilities are clean.
Great place to stay if you are looking for a vacation near Lake Winnesquam and close to many white mountain NH attractions.

Absolutely love this place!!! Had my wedding here and it was amazing. They put on a great night of entertainment for the 4th of July. Now I will say provide some good BBQ food for the night but the price is ridiculous expensive. $15 for a burger plate or a hot dog plate. $9 just for French fries. Blew my mind. I refuse to spend $80/$100 to feed a family of four burgers and dogs

The staff is wonderful. You walk by anyone of them, and they are smiling and happy to see you. No fake smiles. The rooms are clean and well laid out. I will recommend this resort and come back again.

The room we got was amazing. Plus the view was beautiful the balcony could be smoother you could get a splinter on there the main area. Was my favorite it had so many activities to keep you busy and it's a great place to take your kids if they know how to swim I loved this place and I'll definitely come again

Great place, I go every Christmas. Pay the extra 100 for the upgraded room with granite and all that, the other rooms are kinda blah. Love the pool area and there is a lot to do, would be great for kids. Bring your own booze though, bars a bit of a rip off.

Been coming to this place for years, and I still enjoy it. Now that I'm a mom with a toddler, I can't express how awesome it is that there was a baby gate in the room, and there was even a sort of hand-made frame built at the top of the staircase to keep the gate secure and little ones safe. The pools are still welcoming, and the poolside bar is a nice touch. I'd definitely recommend this place if you're looking to get away for a few days. And as a side note, the views are stunning.

After reading the very mixed reviews on this property I was hesitant about booking a reservation. However, since the property is only 5 miles from my grandchildren, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I am so happy happy I did. I am staying in the East building, the furniture is a little out dated but the view from my balcony is stunning. The suite (1 bedroom) is clean, neat and equipped with everything you could possibly need, from coffee to dish soap to paper towels you name it its here. The rooms are bright, clean and quiet. The bed was comfy cozy. There are 2 tvs one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The fully equipped kitchen makes it easy to go to the local market and stock up on goodies for the kids and snacks for me. I got a great package deal that included a discount on the room, a bottle of pure maple syrup as well as $10.00 coupons for each night I am staying to use however I want at the restaurant. I truly am enjoying my time here at Steele Hill Resort.

Really 3.5 stars but I'll round up. Staff is attentive and willing to fix issues. Bedroom had an issue but was fixed in a reasonable amount of time. Went to the Hilltop restaurant for dinner. The staff again super friendly and pleasant experience but the cook must have been new. My and my wife's food was inconsistent but still tasted fine. Manager had an escalation with a large group and he handled it well plus went above and beyond within reason even though the person was unwilling to accept. My biggest problem was the weather was rainy and freezing and they didn't do a good job salting/sanding to keep the walking areas safe. Overall good experience but a few areas to work on and this would easily be 5 stars for me.

P.S. They also do timeshares here so they will offer to save you money on your visit to go through their timeshare meet and greet.

Very nice relaxing weekend getaway location. Seems like a great spot to bring families, pool area is great.
There are several trails to hike and you can rent snowshoes. The only downside is the food at the restaurant is so expensive and not that great, you’re better off driving 15 minutes out for better food at a way lesser price with better service! Also, no housekeeping came by during our stay.

Pool area was nice.

But our room was filthy!!!
As soon as the sun shined through the window (even a dried booger on the bathroom wall), we saw dirty crusty kitchen cabinets, stains on the walls, filthy windows and floors (dust clumps and even a toe nail). Took a plate out for breakfast and there was old crusty cheese on it. Scuffed furniture in every room.
Definitely didn't feel like we were at a resort.

Good place for a getaway close to home. The pool is a decent size, the food is ok (as long as you order chicken finger and French fries or pizza. )They really need to work on their menu, I have been there many times and the food keeps getting worse. It doesn't matter if you order by the pool or go to the restaurant, it's the same type of food cooked at the restaurant brought over to the pool.

Steel Hill has a beautiful view with many different amenities to use. We went up to use the indoor pool and huge hot tub in the west part. They have a cozy little bar where you can get food and drinks. You can sit in the hot tub with a drink in your hand as well. They have a huge pool with a slide for any age. A kiddie pool with a small slide as well. They also have a sauna if you want to use that as well. The bathrooms have showers with dressing rooms and lockers also. For a relaxing day or evening I would recommend to try this place out.

Clean and friendly and very family oriented place. Went to the inside pool with the water slide which was a fun day and the way they have the windows it feels like you're almost outside. Did see someone fall from the monkey bars outside but that can happen anywhere on any play set.

Kids had a blast in the indoor pool. I'd recommend the room with a kitchen. And being food. Restaurant is ok, prices too high for quality of food, and service. There are tons of local places to eat though, just a little drive to get to them.

Steele Hill Resort

This place does not have the quality to justify the premium prices they charge. We paid $271 per night from Thursday through Sunday in September. We were expecting a resort with a lot of activities including a kids club. While they do have two indoor pools that are nice, the solitary water slide in the big pool is something one might find in the little kids section of a waterpark. It gets old after an hour. There are no kids activities on Fridays or Saturdays. And there is no breakfast served Monday through Friday. There is only one restaurant that closes at 9:00pm serving 2 star food at 4 star prices.

We got a unit with a kitchen, so after the first night we made our own meals and ate better than anything in the nearby area.

The staff are all very pleasant and polite, but there are less than a handful available and none of them have that hop-to-it service attitude that is typically found at resorts.

As long as you don't have high expectations of this place and if you can get a deal on price, you can have a reasonable time here. It seems that they do a lot of weddings, so the weekends are busy. It's a decent venue for a family gathering as you can make your own entertainment in such a context.

The infrastructure is tattered around the edges. Most of the baseboard heaters are falling apart and are caked with dust. Also the balcony railings are warped and a bit loose, not inspiring confidence. The water pressure drops when the toilet is flushed and filling, and the tubs drain slowly, which is nice if you like an ankle bath while showering.

Our first two nights found us with broken sofa beds despite changing rooms after the first night due to an uneven, wobbly regular bed. Access to the rooms is a bit cumbersome as you have to navigate through some tight corners and a lot of stairs while hand carrying your bags. No elevators, luggage carts, or doormen guarantee a challenging experience in unpacking particularly if there is rain, wind or snow. And there are a lot of stairs.

There is a nice little 9 hole golf course that is free and perfect for teaching kids, but the fairways are heavily covered with grass clippings. This makes it very challenging to find your ball as it's often buried in the clippings.

There are some trails that encircle the hotels. They are well maintained and make for a nice 1-2 mile walk, but the trail heads are not easy to find and require a 1/4 mile walk along a high speed road to locate.

Quirks:
Every 10 seconds the TV home screen flashes "Key Locations" which include directions to the ice machines and dumpsters. No mention is made of the pools, golf course trails or restaurants.

There's an electric can opener in the kitchen suite, but no toaster.

The pools run out of towels on the weekends and the staff "can't do anything about that."

Bottom line:

If you have to spend time in the area with kids, it's about the best there is in inclement weather. It's not exactly a resort, however. It's more of a large inn that requires you to create your own fun. It's reasonable if you can get a discount deal, but it's hard to justify full price.

When I got to the resort and checked in they were very nice. I went to my room and thought I only entered the closet. I reserved on Hotels dot com and for the price and the pictures I thought that i would have a nice view and spacious stay. My view was of the back side of the building. I went to the office requested a room with a view but was told they were sold out. I went on their website instead of Hotels... and found there were 7 available. I guess if you reserve through that way your not a valuable customer. Anyway, there is no in-room information. They said I needed to go online. Barely any info there. I wanted a snack and there are no snack vending machines in the building I was in so I became a Billy GOAT and climbed the mountain to the store they had in the building with the lucky people. The next day I go to the pool and when I returned my keys didn't work. I had to climb the mountain again to the front office to get my keys replaced. The pool and hot tubs are nice I will say. There is a restaurant in the east building. It doesn't serve breakfast so I had to drive 30 minutes to get breakfast. I had lunch and diner there and the food was average tasting and as expected very pricey. There is a place to get a burger but once again you have to climb the mountain to get it. If you want to stay here make sure you know exactly what room your getting. Also plan to drive a great distance through back roads to get to activities and restaurants off site. I don't think I will be saying here again.

We loved our stay. We stayed in East-with the older pool but liked that it was attached to the restaurant and had amazing views. West is newer and has the pool with the water slide. Nancy, the activities director, was awesome and helpful. We hiked, played corn hole, made sundaes and watched a wildlife show. They also had many other activities. My children, 7 and 9, loved it. We used our full kitchen to cook almost all of our meals.

I had a mostly good experience when I stayed at Steele Hill Resort for a weekend. All the staff at the resort were very friendly. My one bedroom suite had a great view of Lake Winnisquam. It also had a kitchenette and dining table. The resort has many amenities including 2 indoor pools, 2 outdoor pools, a golf course, some tennis courts, a volleyball court, and much more. The checkout time is 10am, which was quite early, and I was able to get a late checkout. The resort is a bit far from I-93 (around 20 minutes). There are signs to help guide you there. If you follow the GPS, you might get lost going on unpaved roads. So follow the directions that they give on their website.

Great place for a weekend getaway. The staff was very nice and the one-bedroom suite was large enough for 4 people (with the sofa bed). We really enjoyed having our own kitchenette and dining area in the room, and enjoyed the great pools and other facilities in the resort. Our room was in the East building; however, because the window in the bedroom facing the parking lot had really short drapes, the light would come in really early and wake everyone up. Otherwise, it was a great stay.

Amazing pool, beautiful area. We stayed here twice. The West townhouse unit we had on our most recent visit was disappointing. The furnishings were newer and room was very clean with the glaring exception of the kitchen. The oven was beyond dirty, though the office sent someone to take care of this the next day, and the shelf above the counters was filthy (just above eye level with a ridge along the front which would make cleaning it a real challenge). Kitchens are important to us when travelling. That's the only reason we choose townhouses. Beds were comfortable and staff was friendly. We like the area and would probably return.

My wife and I are owners at Steele Hill West. We like the resort for the fairly large units and the location in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. The availability of indoor and outdoor pools and an onsite restaurant are also pluses. Some have noted that the place is somewhat dated which I suppose is true but I definitely would not call the place run down. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly - ask for anything and they are there within minutes to serve you.

I have also attended events at Steele Hill which were well done - recommended as a wedding venue or business event location.

We had a family suite. The mountain view was beautiful. A lot of stairs to climb, so not easily accessible for my Grandma. She mostly stayed in the hotel room because of that reason. They didn't clean under the couch or area behind the stairs, but the rest of the place was clean & tidy. My son played in those areas & we noticed it. There were plates, pots, & utensils for use. Full kitchen, fridge, dish soap, dish rack, & dishwasher for use. We had a fireplace, but no lighter or matches in the room. We asked the staff in the main lobby & she provided us with some matches. The indoor pool & slide was amazing. The water was too cold to enjoy for long, but there was a hot pool to warm up. I couldn't find where the towels were to dry off after the pool so we brought the ones from our hotel room. They had a kiddie section with a small slide, a large hot pool, and a sauna. We went for mother's day weekend, so there was a mother's day brunch special, but the restaurant was closed for the rest of the day. We had to drive off the resort for dinner.

Great staff, the people went out of their way to accommodate you. The rooms were clean and quiet.

The restaurant is a trap, however, and the food is mediocre at best. They charge you for the view and buzz words like "pan seared." It's a joke really. It was over a hundred dollars for some chicken tenders, a kids grilled cheese sandwich, and a couple of beers.

My wife and I were offered a free weekend from a family member who bought a membership with Steele Hill. We accepted and came up during a winter weekend in March. The facility is nice and the staff is very welcoming and helpful. The amenities if a non member or someone up for the free weekend/tour combo are something to be desired. We were put in a room that was very dated... Stove didn't work, old yellow paint, box during mattress. Pretty much what you get for a free room.... I get it. What it doesn't do is make me want to come back or even think about buying the membership plan they offer. I may sound like a snob but this is my opinion. Plus don't try coming here if it's snowing bc multiple cars got stuck coming up the mountain. Unfortunately we had to go back down the mountain and get someone from the resort to pick us up... I'm sorry but I will not be coming back. I prefer a more update facility. This place may be better in he summer or fall... But definitely not the winter.

The resort is nice. We stayed here using their ski and stay package for Gunstock Mountain which is about 30 minutes away. We stayed in the newer building with the whirlpool tub in the room which was really great after a day of skiing. I recommend bringing Epsom salts! I'm giving it three stars because we had a weird experience at the restaurant, there is no elevator in the building and climbing to the third floor several times was a challenge and lastly, there is no ice or soda machine in this building. You have to go next door, outside. When it's really cold and you are dressed for bed it's a bit of a pain. I'm not sure of the experience in other rooms.

Great resort. However if you are looking for a quiet relaxing location I'd look elsewhere. Parents here do not keep their children quiet. I have been in 2 different rooms and have to listen to children running around the building inside and outside! Lack of child supervision and common courtesy of keeping children well behaved is lacking here.

Amenities are the best part of this resort. The room we stayed in was nice except the floor was gross. My baby crawls and would get all black and brown from crawling on the floor. Like they don't vacuum or wash the rugs ever. Other then this a very nice place to get away :)

Our room was in the east building which I believe is the original building. Had a one bedroom unit, very clean but in need of updating. No air conditioning in the bedroom or window to open to provide venelation. Thank god for the box fan in the closet. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Restaurant only serves breakfast/brunch on Sunday. Lots of things to do, pools are nice but locker rooms need some attention. I think we should have tried to upgrade our room to one of the newer buildings, but we were out touring most of the time so we didn't bother. All in all, a bit more rustic than we were hoping for.

The resort is great. A little dated in the corners but if you're not looking you'd never notice.
Brunch was a 3/5. The coffee was cold out of the carafe. And a little disorganized staff wise. Although this is the last busy weekend and I'm sure they lost some staff back to school.
Overall a good stay. Ended up at Steele Hill as we attended a concert at Bank of NH Pavilion.

Great quiet location with an incredible view of the lake and mountains. Up to date facilities and a friendly staff. Restaurant is a bit pricey, but the food justifies through price point. Golf course isn't perfect, but it is well maintained (more as a field than as a golf course) and it's free, so it's hard to complain. Three different pool options, all of which were very nice. Small marketplace on site has almost everything you could need at convenience store prices.

First night at the resort and so far so good. Location and service are excellent. The food at top of the hill was surprisingly good. The quality of our room (one bedroom suite) at the main inn is decent. Very clean if a little small for a family of four. Activities so far have kept the kids (and the adults) entertained even on a rainy day. The indoor pool looks amazing. We can't wait to swim and hike the local trails this week.

Rooms were comfortable, although we were in there older part of the resort so there rooms were less modern: the bedroom had only a heater and no AC, although this room was on the inside of the complex.

Views were great. There were two indoor pools, one obviously intended for children (more shallow, with a slide) and the other for older kids and adults.

We didn't eat on the premises. We did eat breakfast down the road at the Heritage Farm Pancake House, which was amazing both for the good and the hospitality.

Overall the stay was good, although the region wasn't yet "open" for tourism (end if April) which limited the options for things to do.
