Great hotel with an excellent lounge, pool, gym, and optional spa. The views from the rooms of the gate are great both day and at night. Shopping, restaurants, a museum, and and outdoor walking area along a canal pathway are all within a half mile of the hotel. Staff was polite, helpful, and went out of their way on several occasions to make sure my group was taken care of. Truly recommend it.

Great choice for stays in Seoul. Excellent concierge lounge for breakfast, coffee, and drinks. Rooms have great views. Also the gym in this hotel is huge and features everything you would want.

Definitely a hotel more on the luxury end, although fairly typical of a few I have stayed at in Seoul.
The rooms are slightly on the small side, but the beds are very large and amazingly comfortable. The bathrooms are huge however and part of the reason the remainder of the room may seems small.
The gym is definitely one of the best points of the hotel. Very large with every piece of equipment you can imagine. There is also a 25 m lap pool and hot tub.

Very nice hotel, great service, great rooms, especially the suites with a view on the Dongdaemun gate. Location is great, even if the district around is a great textile market. Rooms are spacious and well appointed, the executive lounge is full of nice food both for breakfast and for the happy hour, beds are comfy and service is great. One of the best i've tried in Seoul.

It is a beautiful hotel with an attentive staff. The facility is very clean, and beautifully decorated. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The front desk people were especially helpful in showing us fun events that we would like to do.

We dropped by at 1am for a nightcap before ending the night. The bar closed at 2am but the staff were still very friendly and accommodating. The drinks were fantastic and choice exceptional. Ultimately a great night if your willing to pay the high end prices.

This hotel is beautiful. Just starting out coming into the lobby is very attractive and modern looking. All of the staff are friendly and so far could speak a fair amount of English. Some rooms have a beautiful view of the city others are a bit more restricted.

The hotel is in a very safe and fun area. Lots of shopping and close to public transportation. You can also schedule a shuttle (limo) to and from the airport for $45USD per person which we thought was well worth it.

The amenities including pool, gym, jacuzzi, sauna, and others are remarkable. The gym is massive with all new equipment.

Highly recommend staying at this hotel.

Just checked in into this property, which is the world's smallest JW Marriott in the world.

We arrived before the check-in timing and the hotel staff was nice enough to let us use the lounge to rest and have a cup of coffee. After going out for an hour or two to tour the area near the hotel (Kwang Hang Market, Dongdaemun, etc.), we came back to the hotel and we're pleasantly surprised that our room is ready despite it not being the check-in timing yet.

The cosy room offers a very nice view of the city and the hotel is conveniently located to a few markets which tourists like myself can explore.

I stayed at this property for 5 days, and I can honestly say this was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had with a hotel. The staff (a shout out to Eddie and the amazing concierge) was the most sincerely, caring, helpful and friendly I’ve ever experienced. The room was one of the best I’ve ever stayed in. And the food and concierge lounge were simply outstanding. I’m a hard grader, but this hotel deserves the top rating for sure! Outstanding job to the owner and management team! Stay here if you visit Souel, you won’t be disappointed!

I’m a Marriot fan because wherever I travel I receive excellent service and the JW Marriot in Dongdaemun is no exception.

The guest experience begins before you arrive if you’re an individual with the App. I made a few pre-selections before I left the hotel. When I arrived the desk staff greeted me informing me that my requested items had been prepared in the room and ensuring there was nothing else I needed that night. Looking to have a bit of a different experience this past weekend I inquired about getting a seat in the N Grill of Seoul Tower which Kevin the concierge arranged in its entirety to include transportation.

My room had all the additional amenities I was seeking in additional two very warm hand written note from the GM welcoming us to the hotel. Over the next two days I received astounding customer service at every step. The SPA staff was warm and welcoming with the message therapist going over the steps of the treatment and tailoring them to fit the needs of myself and my wife. I had the opportunity to speak with the GM who was gracious enough to talk us through the finer points of the special Mattel Strawberry event going on in the hotel (Highly recommended / Very delicious) and pointed me to a great spot to find some choice toys in the nearby shopping district.

I had a great experience at this hotel and I intend to stay here again for future Seoul trips.

This place is lovely! I loved their buffet, it was not only pretty and have a nice atmosphere the food was really good too! And a nice view at the south gate! I can only recommend this place! It deserved the 5 star ! And oh the service was so good too! Nothing to complain about. Korean quality!

I had a really good stay at this Hotel with a nice sky view room of Dongdaemun gate. The room was well equipped although oddly there's a joint door for the toilet and shower. Subway station is also 5 min walk away, and close to various tourist locations.

I was there in September 2014 with my wife. The look and feel of the hotel were good and the room view as depicted in the photos made a difference. It took about 5-10 minute walk to the bus stop going to the Airport.

JW Marriott is a quality brand and this hotel is no exception. Super high end and luxurious, all of the hotel amenities are excellent. I went to the hotel for dinner since there were no restaurants I knew in the area were any good. Went to the BLT Steak and it was delicious. Tender, perfectly cooked steak with perfect service. Wine selection is the best I found on Seoul.

Helpful staff and good amenities. The only thing which we didn't like was the fact that the bathroom was not a closed environment. No privacy for uaing the toilet!

Every thing about this hotel was excellent. The room, technology, cleanness, club floor, balcony view, health club, location, you name it. Only problem is that most Taxi drivers didn't know it. I guess this is because it was new at the time I've been there, 2014

New and modern hotel with considerably, well made facilities. I recommend the BLT steakhouse in the hotel for a good supper meal. Only turn off is its surroundings: the neighborhood is not the prettiest in Seoul.

It's a brand new five star hotel in Seoul on historical place. It's a relatively affordable five star hotel. I recommend the buffet restaurant. Its name is Tablo. It cost ₩98,000.

This is an incredible hotel! We stayed here 6 nights as a leisure traveler. I can't say enough how attentive and friendly the staff are, including the General Manager. We were in the lobby one morning and as we were reviewing our plans for the day, he came up to us and introduced himself inquiring how our stay was and what we had planned. He was kind enough to offer some suggestions. Its that personalized attention not only by him but other staff that made our stay enjoyable.

ROOM
The hotel has a modern and elegant design. Our room was a nice size and so was the bathroom. The bathroom has a separate tub an shower. And yes, it has a rain shower! The hotel rooms have a unique feature that I have not seen in other properties. Next to the bed, at least in this room, was a touch screen to operate the lights, air conditioning/heat, drapes and other functions. One challenge I face staying at hotels is that each have a different temperature control. Some of which are difficult to work unless you play with it a few times. The temperature control using the touch screen is simple and easy.

BREAKFAST
Breakfast was by far, excellent! Again, the attention is personalized and after a few days of getting to know us, we were seated at the same table near the window each day. Instead of bringing us a cup of coffee each time we requested it, they brought us a pot...brewed fresh. Yes, each cup is freshly brewed. There's a coffee bar that added a classy touch to the restaurant. In addition to the coffee bar, there are a number of different food bars offering a variety of fruit, yogurt, pastries, cereals, juices, omelettes/eggs, french toast, pancakes, cheese, bread, pastries, grilled vegetables, oatmeal, soups and other Asian specialties. If it's still being made, you have to try the pumpkin oatmeal!

FITNESS CENTER
The fitness center is one of the largest I've seen. There's a variety of cardio, strength training and free weight machines. Up a few stairs is a separate stretch area with swiss balls. Each cardio machine has a TV monitor with various channels. Headphones, water and a hand towel are provided. There's also a trainer on staff to assist with your workout or to offer suggestions.

LOCATION
If you plan to use public transit, Seoul's metro is superb and the hotel sits on top of the Dongdaemun Square station. Take exit 8 which will bring you to the front of the hotel. There's also a direct entry from the station to the hotel without going outside. You'll see the name of the hotel posted on the exit signs after exiting the gate. Separate from the metro, the hotel is located in an area I wouldn't expect to see a JW Marriott. I imagine to see JW's in the financial center of major cities. This is a boutique hotel and maybe thats why this hotel doesn't appear to be in the financial center of Seoul. The area is surrounded by clothing stores and outlets. Also, if you're looking for western style restaurants walkable from the hotel, this will be a problem unless you eat at the hotel or take a taxi or metro to another district.

THE END
Check-in/out was efficient. If you haven't used the Marriott app to check-in/out or chat with staff about requests/questions, you're missing out! it's fast and efficient. Please give it a try!

Beautiful room, great location and excellent service crew

I attended a banquet dinner here and the food was excellent but that is really all I can speak to. The wait staff was attentive and quick. This level of service is expected at any hotel in Seoul, so it's not above and beyond the call of duty but certainly still quite good.
