So we stayed here for a weekender event in DC. We usually try to find a Kimpton because we love their vibe. Everyone is different and they offer such great extras. Monaco is a cool spot, and it's right across from Capital One Arena. It's an older building, but they did a good job (look at the room). Check out the pictures of the mini bar. Does Hilton do this? Granted, it's not "The Mandarin", but I don't have $500/night to spend for a room I'm hardly in for a weekend. They also have a nice little restaurant downstairs. The breakfast was pretty tasty. Definitely will be back.

Beautiful and unique building. The staff was fantastic- I got in several hours early and was going to drop off my luggage but they allowed me to check in early. They also held my luggage after checking out while I did more sightseeing.
The room was clean and beautifully decorated. No complaints here!

Great service at the front desk, even before arriving at the hotel. Clean room and bathroom, though the room (a queen room) was on the small side, but sufficient. Snacks and drinks in minibar in the room - decent offering of snacks and goodies. Leopard print bathrobes. Decent area of town -- as a young female traveling alone, I felt safe. Caddy corner from a Starbucks that opens at 5am and closes at 9pm. Great restaurant (Dirty Habit) with a nice bar. Room service menu comes from the restaurant (though I think the menu may be a little more limited for room service). I'd definitely stay here again.

Stayed here while on business and was very impressed with the hotel and amenities. This hotel has a very historic past, worth looking up! Stop into the Dirty Habit (onsite bar/restaurant) for great drinks and food. They have a large outside seating area in the courtyard that offers a contemporary vibe with plenty of seating.

Update 2/2018: I got to give this place another go, and it was much improved the second time around. Way to go Hotel Monaco!

2/2016: Modern decor and it seemed nice but the mattress was less comfortable than I was expecting and that being the main purpose of a hotel earns this place 2 stars. I would advise the management to get back to the basics because I'd have had a better sleep at a holiday inn.

And apparently my buddy's Wife's car got side-swiped between when they dropped it off and picked it up at the valet.

Nice hotel close to the Smithsonian museum campus. We had one night where house keeping did not refresh our towels and just took the ones we left on the floor and put it back. I noticed this because we had a towel that was a bit stained with blood. They offer complementary toiletries if you forget something and their restaurant has disposable utensils if you have leftovers. Their coffee maker is clean and does not Brew tainted water from old coffee like other hotels which is nice cause I drink tea.

Nice studio size room. Vaulted ceilings. Clean. Friendly staff. Great location for just about everything DC has to offer. They do not do karma rewards anymore. TV goes out during rain. You can hear everything in the hallways. Wish they had a water fountain, filtered water should be free.

Location is extremely convenient for touring around the city. Service is great, and had a good time with their complementary drinks during happy hour. The walls are pretty thin and it's easy to hear folks casually walk through the hallways and chat.

I love Kimpton hotels and this one is phenomenal. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We needed a crib and stroller and they made it happen. Plus, this hotel is directly across the street from a metro station, which makes moving around the city very easy.

It is a nice older building that was converted into a hotel. Within walking distance of museums, restaurants, the Capitol Arena, monuments, and the White House. It was the perfect location for our stay.

If you have the funds, get the biggest room you can afford. The smaller rooms are dominated by the bathroom that was added to make the room usable as a hotel. There is literally about 2 feet between the bed and the bathroom. The larger rooms have a lot more space to move around.

Hotel staff was courteous and provided decent service. Was not able to get into the hotel restaurant, Dirty Habit, due a convention at the hotel which seemed to dominate the place. But plenty of other good places were close by in walking distance. The local breakfast spots are amazing.

Make sure you take anything of value out of your car as the Valet service will make sure to do it for you. And don't bother to complain to the Hotel or Valet service management about it. You will not get a call back or any resolution. So much for "delivering top-notch service without an ounce of pretension."

Overall I would have rated it 4 stars. The tight space of the room and the valet shopping in my car kind of ruined the experience for us.

This is a great location. I had a minor hiccup when I checked in the room they put me in smelled like mold. I was moved to a different room and this was no longer an issue. I got charged a facility fee which is hard to understand given that this is not a spa or a resort this was $22 plus tax, a significant addition to an already expensive room. Gym was actually decent. I didn't try their restaurant but it is highly reviewed. Overall a good stay but I am still left wondering why I had to pay that facility fee!

Best location for sightseeing. There are a few Kimptons in the city but this one is the most convenient one for sightseeing, close to many museums and restaurants. It's nice to be able to take breaks in your room between activities. The service and amenities are what you would expect from Kimptons so there are no complaints there. The building is interesting and beautiful, providing spacious rooms with huge windows. Price wise the Monaco is not economy class but it's still affordable; somehow cheaper than Holiday Inn during the Memorial Day weekend.

Nice hotel and the staff, especially Sergio, are super nice. There are many useful things in the room. Even umbrella and yoga mat. The design is interesting and overall we had a great time. The only cons are: 1. There is no free wifi. 2. We got our rooms on the first floor which is in the basement. This was a bit disappointing since we had no sunlight

Old but lovely building. Yes our room was showing it's age a bit but it was clean, open, large, nice bathroom. Hotel is very pet friendly. We stayed there with two dogs while at a dog show in MD. There are some areas with grass near-by to walk dogs. One is s park across the street. Kimpton is a few blocks from Inner Harbor. There are some dog friendly outdoor dining areas there. We would definitely stay here again!

The best downtown hotel, hands down. They have the best meeting space for small meetings/conferences that I can think of in the area. From the minute I walked in I received excellent customer service. I had left my phone in the Lyft car and Nicole C at the front desk was helpful, calm and kind as I frantically tried to contact the driver. She then delivered the phone personally to my room after the Lyft driver delivered it back to the hotel. From then on every time I saw Nicole she greeted me with a friendly smile and was extremely helpful. I had an issue with my assigned room and was transferred almost immediately. The hotel is in a perfect location for walking to sites and a metro stop is just out the front door. The staff are helpful and friendly, the hotel is beautiful and perfectly located, and the evening happy hour is not too shabby either. Would book here again!

Stayed on a quick trip to DC after getting a very reasonable deal on Hot Wire. Allowed early check-in at 9am. Room was spacious, clean and in a very art deco design. Bathroom had a sunken tub and stand alone shower. Bed was very comfortable. Added bonus of a happy hour at 4pm. Silly that complimentary coffee was only offered during certain times of the day.

Nice suite, however, no heat vents in the bathroom or exhaust for the shower. Also, wished they'd put a key card on the side exits so guests don't have to go around the building to re-enter. Staff was friendly & the messaging valet system for retrieval of cars was great!

My family went to dinner and saw our friends here. It is a creepy hotel. There are long, empty, quiet hallways, and when you walk into the public restrooms, eerie electronic music is playing. And the restaurant's theme is black goth, which creeped me out. But if you ask for a fish, they deliver one in a tank to you. That's cool.

The hotel was highly recommended to us for our weekend away. The hotel Placed us near the ballroom. Needless to say a Christmas Party was going on, the guest made noise until 1:00A.m in the morning. The caterers walked up and down the hallway until 1-1:30a.m.
We were very hesitant to use the valet service but was assured by the Valet Company that the place was very secure. During the evening hours of our first night , one of the valet attendants stole my wallet out of our car. I totally had forgotten it was in the car. The person rummaged through my vehicle, dumping over a bag that was sitting in my car. Our glove box was opened and strewn about.
The police came, the person was still working this evening when we drive past to make sure.

This was my first time in DC in years so we chose the Kimpton Monaco due to it's location. The hotel was perfectly located, within easy walking distance of most of the museum's and right next to the spy museum. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the staff friendly. The only drawback to the experience was parking, which I felt was in the expensive side since it was valet parking when I had no need to access my car once it was parked until we were ready to to leave. Still, an excellent hotel for a great weekend in DC.

Beautiful classic prewar building with excellent staff and luxury appointments. The interior courtyard of the building is open to the public and is one of the most DC outdoor bars you are going to find. Surplus of seating with table and bar service. Hotel is beautiful! Great location!! Front desk personnel that I interacted with, were not the most accommodating and after working at a hotel in the same position, I do understand that you can not accommodate EVERY need. BUT, you CAN present this information in a manner that is empathetic and apologetic. Not a brusque-tone and with a not-my-problem attitude. Housekeepers were Wonderful and very helpful! Bar scene was one of the best I've seen for a hotel, in a while. The bartender was very pleasant, knowledgeable in spirits and made me a Fantastic drink!! If you get past the 2 front desk personnel that were most likely having a bad day, the hotel is excellent!

This really could be a great place for a long-term stay. It's not the kind of place that needs Google reviews to attract guests. It's a huge property with plenty of interesting history that exudes an opulence of a past era due to it's large, well-appointed foyer, extravagant finishes, and old-style lounge and restaurant. Stay here if you like unique buildings and an environment that's not like every other chain hotel. If you prefer predictable sameness of Big Chain Hotel in a brand new building with all things brand new, this is not the hotel for you. We're DC folks but we stayed here for our anniversary last summer and had a great time. Other than Poste (the bar/restaurant in the beautiful courtyard) being closed with some construction, we had a great time staying in this beautiful old building that oozes character. The rooms are totally unique as they were all once offices or lobbies or storage rooms at one point. The courtyard is beautiful and just walking the wide halls is an experience. The location is terrific, right in the heart of Chinatown/Penn Quarter. It's adjacent to a Metro stop and right across the street from the Portrait Gallery. Tip: get a cheap lunch and take it in with you to the portrait gallery right across the street and eat in their amazing inside courtyard. If you have kids, there's a little fountain on the floor so take extra clothes and let them play in the water. Bonus for the great service as they let us keep our bikes inside the luggage closet as we came in each day from being out and biking around. We'll be back!

I stayed here for a business trip but decided to fly my wife to DC for the weekend and extended my stay. She was head over heels for the decor. It is phenomenal. The staff is top notch and extremely friendly with the possible exception of the valets. My room was as comfortable as can be expected albeit a bit small, especially considering the price. If you get a courtyard facing room, make sure you get it on the upper floors if you require privacy. This is not the best hotel I've ever stayed in (The Address Dubai) but I would definitely recommend Kimpton Hotel Monaco DC. to all my friends traveling to DC.

Can't speak for the hotel rooms experience, but the happy hour and restaurant is amazing. Beautiful chic setting. The food is delicious, the drinks are blah, and bland. We love the Hotel Monaco in part because of its proximity to the Verizon Center and in part because it's a unique experience as a concerted government building. Thank you for a wonderful stay! We arrived one evening when an event was occurring at the Verizon Center nearby, so the valet line was double-parked beyond the block. One person in our party got out to check-in & mentioned to the one valet guy at the stand we were hotel guests - he immediately attended to us & our car while the one in our party checked-in.
When we were walking through the lobby going to our room, we were greeted with special gift bags just for us (dogs) by the front desk staff! We both got a chew toy & several treats. There was a dog bed and bowl waiting in our room.
The room was spacious and clean. The building is interesting and has historical significance, if you like that. The location is great - especially if you want to visit any sites near the national mall.

Excellent decor and service. You'll need help with your luggage up the steps but don't worry there is plenty of guys to help you. As with all Kimpton properties there is complimentary beverages starting at 5 pm the nice thing with this location is that they have more than just wine - beer and even coffee with bourbon - nice! Depending on where your room is, you might need to spend some time walking the hallways. Hotel Monico is located within walking distance to great dining choices and many of the DC attractions. It is conveniently kitty corner to the Metro station serving the Verizon center. We had no need to rent a car at all, taking the metro from Regan National to and from the hotel. We used the Metro during our stay to extend our range and filled as needed with Uber to completely avoid the hassle of a car in an urban setting.

The complementary 5 pm wine bar provides a great daily opportunity to unwind and plan the evening’s activities. The hotel provides bicycles on a first come first serve basis for their guests. The quality is nice enough to enjoy the ride. We used the bikes to view the White House and revisit some of the monuments on a departure morning ride.

Be aware that the first floor rooms are actually below grade. We had one when we checked in, but after a short moved to a third floor room which we found much more agreeable.

The room was decorated in a DC way. Very elegant and the bed was pretty comfy. Room was small but enough for the weekend. We did not have a view from the room. The building is old but redone very well. The staircase is pretty and there is an elevator. There is a business center and a gym.

Nice clean hotel, with great architecture. Rooms were a bit tight for storage, half an armuoir; the other half was full of their"stuff for sale" fridge. Even the fridge was full of their stuff. The only other storage was three small open face shelves in the bathroom for folded clothing. Kitchen was under renovation, so no comment there. Great central location though; lots of stuff to do in the area. I would stay here again.

If you're trying to find a really great deal on this amazing hotel I'd highly suggest booking it through HotelRaven. Com They have great deals for it on there! Such a perfect place don't have enough great things to say!

Hotel Monaco is a heritage building with modern facilities. Hotel staff were warm and helpful. Hotel is conveniently located to Chinatown and the Smithsonian museums. Lots of good eateries at every corner. Lobby served complimentary hot drinks in the morning and alcohol in the evening for hotel guests.

Very quant hotel. Some of the rooms are in the basement and can feel a little dark. However if any other hotel group tried to do the same thing the rooms would be way too dark.

The first room key that the desk gave us did not work so we had to get another one. The rooms were luxurious and roomy.

If any of you guys are looking for dirt cheap hotel deals I would check out HotelRaven. Com I saved a ton of money using that site.

Overall our stay was extremely pleasant with the exception of late Saturday night through early Sunday morning. We were awaken no less than five times by the extremely rowdy wedding party above. The front desk was informed however they appeared not to be concerned at all. We did not pay these prices to be inconvenienced by people with no respect for others.

I am a Kimpton Karma member since 2012 and I highly recommend this route, it is free to join. Kimpton is truly service oriented and aims to give personalized service in their boutique style hotels.

Hotel Monaco is an amazing property. I first stayed in April 2013 and have since returned for brunches.

The ambiance is the best. You are greeted by valet on F between 7th and 8th streets, a sprawling street in DC full of tourists, cyclists, runners, and cars. The location is by far one of the highlights of this location. Within a 1 mile walk or run you can be at the National Mall or amazing restaurants. I did have to call into the lobby for valet-- we arrived Friday around a busy afternoon with nice weather. Once valet did come outside they were very helpful. You're greeted by 4 staff members manning the concierge booth to the right and main lobby desk directly ahead of you. This building's historical beauty can take your breath away if you have time to notice it! They wished me a happy birthday and asked about my Nats game. (These are the personal service things you can expect to happen at Kimpton, if you tweet them or make a note on a reservation they do their utmost to personalize your journey)

When we got up to the queen room you may be disappointed. While the hallways are grand like the rest of the building the rooms are quaint. Much like when the building was built in 1839 individual rooms were not the highlight of buildings. (This was the first all-marble building and used as a post office) The room is SMALL. Enough room for a nook with a desk and SMALL bathroom. I absolutely adore this hotel and even have it marked as my favorite on my Kimpton Karma profile but unless I want to spring for a spa room or suite to get that added 200 sq ft I'd choose another location. The bathroom was just too small, forget about having room for two people or a woman (or man equal opportunity here) with a few palettes of make up in tow.

The bathroom size will deter me from staying again but Kimpton as always has the best amenities. I was greeted by complimentary champagne, ice bucket, two glasses and a birthday card on the desk! Kimpton really is my favorite :) Combined with their complimentary wine hour at 5 PM they never fail to impress me.

The brunch here at Poste has the most amazing outdoor patio and indoor seating arrangements. It is very normal to see people in suits with shirts untucked or a smattering of boat shoes and pastel colors lounging around outside accompanied by a fully stocked bloody mary bar. I really enjoy brunch here. The Poste has a cool separate entrance off of 7th street, but it is accessible via the lobby.
