Certifications

EU Organic Label

EU organic farming is an overall system to manage a farm and produce food, while ensuring the following: best environmental practices, high level of biodiversity, the preservation of natural resources, high animal welfare standards. These are the main principles that have to be translated into concrete production methods such as multi-annual crop rotations, the use of livestock manure as a fertiliser and growing only what the farm can naturally yield. It is also essential to encourage natural resistance to pests and diseases in both crops and livestock. It is encouraged to have suitable habitats for the benefit of the animals to help control pests in a natural way. It is also important to provide access to quality feed and free-range pasture to maintain the health of the animals.

ANIMAL WELFARE
Awareness of animal welfare issues has been growing in recent years. Under the Lisbon Treaty of 2009, which acknowledges that animals have feelings, the EU and its members must take animal welfare into account in all agricultural, fisheries, transport and research policy.

Organic principles and regulations are also designed to ensure that animals are treated humanely. There is a ban on inflicting any avoidable pain or suffering. Requirements include the following.

Breeds
To ensure that animals are healthy, EU rules require the use of breeds that are robust, able to adapt to local conditions and disease-resistant. This is why indigenous breeds and strains suited to specific environments are preferred.

Feed
The feed given to livestock should enhance their health and wellbeing. Organic farmers use organic fodder that is good not only for growth and output, but also for health and welfare.

Feed must not contain any substances that artificially promote growth, synthetic amino acids or genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Living conditions
There are strict rules on the way in which animals are housed. The number of animals kept in one space must be appropriate to guarantee their comfort. Moreover, they must have access to natural air and light, and must be able to go outdoors.

Tethering animals is not allowed unless it is essential for safety, welfare or veterinary reasons, and then only in individual cases.

Health and disease prevention
Keeping animals healthy and contented is one of the key principles of organic farming. This entails taking account of different species' particular needs.

Organic farming strengthens animals' natural defences, as it provides them with suitable high-quality feed, regular exercise and free-range access to appropriate pasture.

Freedom from pain
Organic farming ensures that any suffering is kept to a minimum throughout the animal's life.

When animals are transported, their welfare must be guaranteed and travel times must be kept as short as possible. The use of any type of electrical stimulation or allopathic tranquillisers before or during loading and unloading is strictly forbidden.

Slaughter methods are designed to be as quick and painless as possible.

ENVIRONMENT

The respect for the environment is an intrinsic part of organic agriculture. Organic farming is a method of food production that combines best environmental practices, a high level of biodiversity and the preservation of natural resources.
Organic farmers in the European Union are obliged to respect nature's systems and cycles; ensure the health of the soil, water, plants and animals; contribute to a high level of biodiversity. Organic farmers also make responsible use of energy and natural resources, such as water, soil, organic matter and air.

Soil is arguably one of the earth’s most important - yet often neglected - natural resources. It is essential for life on earth because it nurtures plants, which in turn provide food and oxygen for humans and animals. Organic farmers respect the value and importance of soil by carefully monitoring what they put in and take out of it and how their activities affect its fertility and composition.

Biodiversity: It is a general principle of organic farming that every living organism should be held in high regard: from the tiniest micro-organism living in the soil to the mightiest tree towering above it. For this reason, every link in the organic food supply chain is geared towards maintaining and, wherever possible, increasing the diversity of plants and animals. Practices that contribute to high levels of biodiversity are often the result of good farming practice, as well as of the EU organic farming Regulation.

Water: Organic methods contribute to retaining water resources and maintaining the high quality of these water resources.

Landscape: All agricultural activity invariably involves modification of the natural environment; however, organic farming attempts to reduce this as much as possible, so that organic farms essentially blend into the surrounding landscape and respect it.

Nice hotel right in the center of Berlin. The design and especially the size of the rooms are very pleasant. Also the staff was quite friendly.

Negative points are the WLAN which is not very reliable and the noise of the rooms facing the street.

Nice rooms, modern bathrooms and 24/7 desk.
unfortunately receptionist did not give us new towels and a whole toilet roll when asked, he gave me a toilet roll that was empty with just a few sheets left. quite rude.
also easy to get locked out

Very nice hotel.

As a conscious person this was the only hotel in Berlin that fitted my lifestyle of sustainable living and vegan offer.

Breakfast, brunch, both possible after a long business day or private city sightseeing tour.

I would choose almodóvar again.

Best wishes for this hotel

This hotel proves that you can go very green without compromising quality or comfort! The AC worked great during one of the worst heat waves in modern times in Berlin (which is not what we heard from other couples in other hotels). The hotel is very close to a main train station so it was easy to get anywhere in Berlin. It was also a great neighborhood with lots of local food and shops.
My only complaint was that the bed was very noisy. I couldn't sleep one night and unfortunately kept my partner up as well with all of my tossing and turning.

The hotel itself is pretty decent. The staff however... I have never ever experienced so many impolite, not caring staff people. I really liked the sustainable approach of the hotel, but if that means you have to accept such a behavior from the employees, it is a no go. In addition to that, the location is a little bit far from the real center but that is something I saw on the map before I booked - would not have thought it would weigh that much.

Great vegetarian food, nice people running the restaurant. For professional workshops, the hotel management was not very prepared and partly unfriendly, e.g. when we put posters on the wall.

Clean, nice team,it has definitely a good healthy breakfast. I'm not sure if you could find somewhere cheaper with the same standards, but it's somehow not cheapest! It has sauna upstairs, but I didn't visit it

Was disappointed there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room and instead was charged for this at the cafe downstairs. Also saying the hotel has a "spa" is a big stretch. It is one sauna room only, no pool or jacuzzi or gym.

My first visit to Berlin, and staying in Almodovar hotel was quite comfortable. The emphasis is on Bio and organic things, but apart of that, I was very satisfied. The thing in Berlin is that there a lot of construction sites, especially nearby hotel, so one must be prepared for extra noise.

Fantastic hotel in a great location: Ostkruez station a short walk away + tram and bus routes right outside the door and lots of cafe's / restaurants nearby. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean. Bed comfortable and natural wood furniture makes the room cosy.

A bit overpriced for the neighborhood. No mini bar. No proper curtains to block out the light. Noisy street. 16€ for breakfast seemed a bit much...

I stayed here for the week on holiday and it's fantastic. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's perfect for veggies and vegans with a lovely restaurant attached to it. The rooms are comfy and come with everything you need. Highly recommend

The rooms are spacious, modern and the furniture is nice. Although you may want to your own bring tea making things if you're British. Staff and service are exemplary, very helpful and speak good English. The breakfast was great, a buffet with bread, mock meats, croissants, cereal, muffins, etc. If Berlin didn't have so much to offer we would've eaten here every morning. The location probably couldn't be much better, there is a tram and bus stop right outside, Lidl down the road and countless vegan restaurants within walking distance. There is also a spa on the roof although we haven't been there yet. I'm looking forward to coming again

8

Nice hotel with a great deal of sustainable initiatives. Small sauna/spa area on the top floor was nice (costs an extra 5 bucks pp/day). Vegan/vegetarian breakfast (for an extra 15 bucks pp/day) with a decent selection. Rooms were simple but nice. Central location in Friedrichshain made it convenient to walk many places. Close to transit (bus or train).

Staff disinterested, asked for water told to get some 'from the toilet', WiFi was down and told that it was because I was using an iPhone.

Penthouse has a sauna, beyond that it felt like a serviced apartment block.

Rooms were very nice and also liked the location in hip east berlin. Construction going on next door was noisy and the staff was not very friendly or knowledgable. The hotel rented bikes for 12 euro/day which was very convenient. Overall, the hotel was a good value for the price and I would recommend.

Hotel sehr stylisch.

Very nice hotel.
ROOM: I had a standard room which was basic indeed but clean/stylish. It's very new and built to good values. There's free wifi and also an internet pc (linux kiosk). No street noise since I was in a room giving out on the courtyard. Only remark: I had to turn the thermostat to 29 degrees to have the heating warm the room.
RESTAURANT: The restaurant is superb, it's a vegan/veggy heaven.
SERVICE: friendly
ACCESSIBILITY: there's a tram passing by, but it was kind of a bummer coming from the airport using S-bahn as that line was blocked by road works.

Looks like a very cool hotel. Weird though, do not accept pets under no condtions. I expected they will be more tolerant with this.
