They are doing a great job transitioning to a new abnormal! Rooms are comfortable, and the normal amenities are available with some adjustments.

As a former hotel general manager myself, I can wholeheartedly endorse this property. Top rate cleanluness and condition, prompt room service, and a great location. We did have a small problem while we were here, and the staff handled it professionally. This is the best measure of service at a hotel, and in this area, the hotel excelled.

Take it from someone in the industry, this is a great place to stay.

Great hotel. Friendly staff. Was upgraded to a very nice corner junior suite as an IHG platinum. If you have a car, I’d suggest the parking garage right next to the hotel instead of valet. It’s much cheaper.

This is a beautiful hotel with the only real fine dining restaurant in town. The bar is gorgeous, and staffed with a deeply professional team. I would not dream of staying anywhere else in town. Downside? It's not on the beach. Do you care about that? Really? Why not stay here away from the tourists, and take a nice walk to the beach instead?

By far one of the most amazing hotels I've ever had the pleasure of staying in. Recharge and relax. The hotel is absolutely stunning! The pool is on the roof and a panoramic view of beautiful Santa Barbara. Not a bad view from any vantage point. The staff are charming and the bar make makes the best drinks. You can walk almost anywhere downtown. It is a bit pricey, but sometimes you just have to treat yourself.

This was my first time staying at the Kimpton Canary Hotel, but not my last. I brought my dog, a 75 lb mixed bread and this was the perfect hotel for dogs. One of the most dog friendly hotels I've ever been to. There was treats in the lobby, right next to a sign welcoming all of the dogs. Staff was absolutely amazing with my dog, patient, friendly and great.

The rooms were classic Santa Barbara. Well appointed and clean. The rooftop pool was perfect to lay in the sun and the view was incredible.

Perfect walkable location in downtown Santa Barbara. Nice, well done rooms EXCEPT the Junior Suites. They are right over valet parking. Cool rooftop pool. Very good restaurant in lobby.

I booked a block of rooms at the Canary for my destination wedding in Santa Barbara and experienced nothing but exceptional service from the booking process through checkout. We were upgraded to the junior suite for free for 2 nights of our stay shortly before our arrival and it was such a kind gesture to a slightly frazzled bride-to-be. We were handed glasses of wine at check in and there were chocolate covered strawberries, a lovely note, and a bottle of champagne on ice in our suite when we arrived. The amenities were superb, as was the front desk for our many small requests; they even had a straightener on hand when I realized I had left mine at home on the morning of my wedding! French press coffee delivery in the morning can't be missed, neither can the evening wine hour. The rooftop has beautiful views and a great pool/hot tub. You can even order food and drinks and have them charged to the room. The on-site restaurant and bar were spectacular as well. Yes, it definitely is not a cheap place to stay, but it really was worth every penny we paid for the convenience and the experience of staying there. I felt like a princess on my big day, and that was in no small part thanks to the Kimpton Canary.

A friend of ours recently had his wedding reception there and the location was beautiful. One flight of steps down and you are in a very impressive reception hall; top it all off with a trip to the rooftop and you're in for a treat. Enjoy the weather, sunset, and a heck of a time at one of the most beautiful rooftops in all of Santa Barbara!

Excellent hotel. The location is close to State Street and in the central part of Santa Barbara and close distance to the mission and the other historic sites. There is a rooftop pool. Menu choices from restaurant are available with a good selection of sandwiches and drinks. All staff are helpful and pleasant. Hotel is well maintained with care and attention to detail.

The Kimpton Canary is beautiful. The staff was very kind and attentiive. We enjoyed our stay but I believe we received the smallest room in the hotel. The noise was a factor in my rating. We didn't sleep well and for that reason, I don't think I will return.

The rooms are pretty typical but spacious. The beds are really quite comfortable though. The swimming pool and hot tub on the roof stay open until 11 pm which is nice after a long day of work. Housekeeping comes twice every day, once to make up the room and once for turn down. Valet parking is fairly expensive at 35 per night and street parking overnight isn't an option. Great location near State Street means you won't often need your car anyway. Enjoy Santa Barbara!

This hotel has a lot going for it, including a nice rooftop viewing deck, very friendly staff and comfortable beds. We stayed 3 nights in April and overall enjoyed our visit. Loved the rooftop deck. I can't give more stars because of the variety of barking dog problems, which disturbed our sleep one night and then our quiet time after dinner. Not just a couple of warning barks, but the grating, annoying barking of a frantic nervous wreck kind of dog. Like in a kennel...The first night I just lived with it; the next night I was really aggravated and called down to the manager. They apologized and eventually it stopped, but I ask myself why should guests staying in a really nice hotel have to call about the DOG in the room next door?

What an amazing Kimpton hotel. The Canary is amazing and one of our new favorite Kimpton’s. Everything was perfect from the time we arrived at the valet and were greeted by Armando. Matthew at the front desk was great and very welcoming. He gave us some tips on places we can’t miss. The welcome glass of wine is a nice touch. The room was so clean and comfortable. We loved the fruit all around the property. The views from the rooftop are stunning.

Marissa is very sweet. She really made us feel comfortable and like we were at home. She is a great asset to the Canary and to Kimpton.

Ryan the General Manager is so friendly. He has done an amazing job building a team that really cares.

We ate exclusively at Finch and Fork during our stay and it was delicious. Pablo, Olivia, Gabbi (spelling), Janine, and Eli were all great. Eli made us an amazing vegetarian Chef’s Taste and was nice enough to bring it out and explain the dish to us. This was the best Chef’s Taste we have ever had. See my review on Finch and Fork. They are great for any meal.

If you are planning a trip to Santa Barbara you need to stay here. We cannot wait to be back in the Nest. Thanks for an amazing stay.

There is no place like a Kimpton and in and around Santa Barbara there is no place that comes close to the Kimpton Canary!!! From the moment you roll up to the front step out of your car and meet one of the valet standouts, you become instantly aware that you are in a service-oriented hotel. The front desk staff is everything you expect from a Kimpton but the canary has a very Boutique feel and wow do they make you feel special. The only way you could feel more special is if you were a dog because this hotel is not just dog friendly they are dog loving!!! The rooms are incredible the in Hotel restaurant is amazing and the location is perfect for anything you want to do in Santa Barbara. I cannot underscore enough how special this little hotel is.

When we checked in yesterday, we were surprised with a room upgrade...then walked into our suite to discover a sweet card, chilled champagne and fresh chocolate-covered strawberries!! This places looks good, has generally reasonable service and nice rooms.

Their main selling point is the roof terrace. This would have been great, were it not for the fact the hotel is frankly greedy and crammed a private event up there at the same time. This meant all those people using the pool and sun loungers. The experience was therefore ruined. The manager (Lance?) was unfortunately out of his depth (no pun intended) in dealing with our complaint.

I’d say: go here, but check first if there is an event. If there is, run away.

We had a beautiful, all too short stay at the Canary Santa Barbara. Their four poster beds are a dream, and the light in the king balcony suites is amazing. Always love Kimpton's wine happy hour and customer service as well. And the rooftop pool! So beautiful. We would certainly stay again next time we find ourselves in Santa Barbara.

Amazing hotel with the best service in the heart of Santa Barbara!!!
We had a very lovely night there celebrating our honeymoon. We got a generous complimentary upgrade without even asking at reception (honeymoon note was included in booking reservation though). So from a standard room, we got upgraded to the luxurious junior suite! The suite is on the top floor, has traditional Spanish style, with high bed frame, spacious, well decorated, very clean and a very nice atmosphere. Also, they provided complimentary fruit, champagne and a card with their wishes. Thank you Canary for making our day special! It was a really pleasant stay . I would definitely recommend anyone going to Santa Barbara to stay there.

Location is good near State Street with all the stores. Room and building has an older feel and looks to be aged but well kept. Bed was comfy and bathroom in suite was nice. Hotel room itself was a bit small for the price. Hotel offers happy hour daily of wine and is attached to a really good restaurant.

Location is perfect for walking to the Funk Zone, for wine tasting, or many of the wonderful nearby restaurants. The rooms are nice, though the walls may be a bit thin. We heard dogs barking in another room and an infant crying when we were trying to sleep. The roof pool is nice, though on the small side. It has fantastic views of Santa Barbara. The pool is not adults only, so prepare to hear kids playing loudly when you're trying to read a book. Overall it's a beautiful hotel with some very nice amenities. It's family (and apparently dog) friendly. Location plays a big role here, with it's proximity to Downtown. The price is a bit higher than I'd like though. I think next time we'll pay a little more and stay at one of the 5 star resorts.

Very nice boutique hotel in keeping with Kimpton standards. Beautiful rooftop pool, very good bar and restaurant. The room was spacious. The bed was the tallest I've encountered. Short people might be challenged. Contrastly tall people will have to stoop or kneal to use the bathroom mirrors. Having said that, The Canary is lovely hotel and we will return.

My husband and I got married on the rooftop of the Canary hotel on August 6th, 2016. From the first day we walked up there we knew it was where we wanted to tie the knot, since we both had been to the hotel on several occasions during university in SB as well as other trips to the area thereafter. However, I don’t think that our wedding would have been as magical on that rooftop had we not worked with the oh-so-talented Liza Gomez as our catering sales manager and full liaison to the hotel. She was such a delight to work with when we were simply looking at the venue, inviting us to come over to the rooftop whenever we wanted to be sure we were making the right decision. Once we signed our contract, she was in contact with us constantly and always was both prompt and sincere in all her correspondence with us. When it came down to wedding day execution, I would say it was almost flawless. The food was incredible, the drinks were strong, and the venue was set-up exactly how I had always dreamed it would be down to every last candle and string light. There were a couple of issues with my group’s “getting ready” plans and the availability of our complimentary hotel room, but even then when the hotel got wind of said issues through the follow-up survey I received immediate response from the team to better understand where the mishaps were and to help mitigate these issues coming up for future weddings. The Canary hotel is gorgeous and their team upholds the Kimpton name. I look forward to spending my anniversaries there for many years to come.

One of the best fine dining experiences in Santa Barbara. The mid- to high-priced ($18-35 main plates) New American style food is consistently simple and excellent. Deviled eggs with smoked trout or grilled citrus cauliflower are perfect starters, as are the house-pickled vegetables. Main dishes are consistent and well portioned, including a relatively stable rotation of daily specials. Extensive cocktail and wine selection.

Decor is modern, service is generally excellent; there can be a wait for a table but the bar serves the full menu.

As with all Kimptons, this place was amazing. They do such a great job training their staff to be friendly and helpful. Our room had french doors which opened to the beautiful weather of Santa Barbara. Four poster bed with lots of comfy pillows.

A wonderful boutique hotel in an historic building, one block from State Street.

The Canary provides an old-world ambiance with modern amenities and first-rate service. Every detail of this hotel is beautiful and well thought out, from the lobby, to the rooms, to the attached dining at Finch and Fork, to the opulent roof-top oasis, including pool, hot tub and luxurious lounges.

If you wish to stay downtown, where you can walk to almost anything, but in quiet opulence, this is the place.
