I love staying here, just the novelty of a swimming pool on the 4th floor overlooking the street so you can relax and people watch. P.s the showers in the pool area are amazing! Better than the ones in the rooms.

Centrally located in the heart of Wellington's popular entertainment district, Cuba Street. Rooms were cosy and clean. Hotel staff were highly courteous and archive orientated, the hotel also appeared to have environmentally friendly practices (cleaning products). However, note that this means the amenities kit in the CQ Comfort room did not provide individually packaged soap, shampoo, toothbrush or toothpaste, but a shower cap and disposal bag were provided. I enjoyed the stay and would recommend if looking for a budget friendly, centrally located hotel room to return to each night.

Fantastic location.
Very helpful staff. Cleaners probably need a check list of what is supposed to be in each room. It seemed to be a little inconsistent.
Our room was chosen for the price. However, the lack of fridge was of little importance given the location.
A nice little bar with comfy chairs.
We had a bit of construction noise after about 9am but so what.
Walk out the front door for any number of breakfast options.
I can recommend Olive and the Ugly Bagel within 50m.
I would happily use this hotel as a base on Wellington.

The hotel looks very much better than what we can see on the outside. Conference room has good sound system and expandable space. Service is very good, water is always refilled and trash on table always get removed each time there's a break. Delicious cookies and variety choice of tea were served during tea time. However, the buffet style lunch didn't have much variety of food. Literally 2 mains to choose from. And the main is just satay skewer.

Great hotel but the restaurant was a complete let down. Waited 30 min to be seated and another 40 min for our food to be served. Difficult when you have 2 very hungry young kids... other customer walked out after receiving her below average meal and complained about the long wait. Quality of food was sub standard. Really a pity as the hotel was really nice.

Had a great nights sleep. The bed was super comfy and the Hotel had provided a large fan which was on cooling down the room on my arrival. Had a nice breakfast - it would have been too easy to overeat as there was such a variety of good. Great place to stay.

Stayed twice. Good service. Friendly team. And awesome location on Cuba Street. Can be a little noisy at night but it's never been a big issue.

Stayed here lastnight with my partner for our 6 year anniversary. I checked in early to sort the room and had booked a comfort room. It was okay but I wanted a more modern and spacious room. I asked the girl (maya?) at reception if I could upgrade to a room on the quality hotel side and she was so lovely in upgrading me at a really good rate and even sent complimentary bubbles up to our room which made my day. Super helpful staff. The room was HUGE! really nice and the bed was nice and comfy. It didn't have air-con(which the receptionist mentioned) but there was a small window and a big fan so no complaints. Great location right in the middle of town, nice restaurants and stores all along Cuba.
We used the pool and spa. Pool had a bit too much chlorine but otherwise was really nice. Sundeck is awesome too. Got express breakfast on checkout, some gourmet pastries and toast with juice tea and coffee. croissant's were delish. All in all it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend. =]

Great location provides easy access to bars, restaurants and nightlife on Cuba Street. Can be a little noisy at times, but if you want a quiet place then you're probably staying in the wrong area. Staff were super helpful at check in and very professional and polite. Ask for a room on the 4th floor to get direct access to the pool deck. Would definitely stay again.

The rooms lookes modern and well appointed. However beds were terrible, but my rating is so bad due to the room and service we got. Room 459 which we were given did not have aircon and when quizzed why and what they would do they offered us a fan. Doesn't really help in a 6 x 6 room with a family of 4.
We stayed as we had no where else to go but suffice to say we will not return to this establishment ever again.

CQ Hotels got very nice apartment suites. The bathroom was large, great kitchenette, confortable bed, and pool. They also provide nice food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are so many other restaurants and cafes are close by. It can be a bit noisy during the weekends. The apartment was clean and comfy. The only downside I found was that the apartment didn't have air conditioning. It was a very hot weekend, and a fan circulating the hot air was not enough. Otherwise it was a pleasent stay, I would come back into an air-conditioned room.

Very good accessibility. The staff in the restaurant know sign language, and you can order your food using it! The food is tasty and well priced. I attended a conference here and the room was comfortable. The bathroom was quite tight but was adequate- please not that larger or motorized wheelchairs may struggle with this.

Thus is not what I would call a five star hotel, git a deluxe suite to start the shower was over the bath, there was also.a spotlight outside the room that even through the curtains let up the room all night .. I got a room. Change that was a down grade , and the room, was quite dirty, found used lip gloss on the floor and a bottle of lube on the bed side table . Food was not great , got better from a cafe. Would not return for the price .

5

The hotel is old style which I prefer, friendly staff. Downside each floor is not individually secure, which means any drunk in the hotel can bang on your door at 3:15am and wake you up thinking it's their room and their keycard won't work when they are on another floor. Happen once, you get over it, happen twice in the same night you get bloody furious. Nice place but I'm not sure I could put up with another sleepless night there.

Generally a good hotel. A few minor inconveniences; such as, extremely high water pressure (that would often result in shower hoses flying around the bathroom) and the safe did not work.

Excellent Hotel. Very accessible for those with disabilities. They even have Deaf (and hearing) waiters. There is a dinner menu with Sign Language images so that you could try your hand, excuse the pun, at ordering your meal in Sign Language.

I stopped for coffee at the CQ cafe a couple of times while I was in Wellington and it was excellent. The barista was very careful and focused on making sure he was serving the best coffee he could and it was a pleasure to see him interact so well with all his customers. The fresh danishes are delicious.

Pretty good value hotel, got most of what I expected. The bed was comfy, but the view was sub-par, and the windows rattled in the wind until I locked them shut. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and the location is great.

Great service at the front desk and restaurant, made you feel welcome. Only one thing that got on my nerves is that during the night we kept on waking up every 20 mins with the sound of glass bottles been tossed into bins from the bars below..

Wonderful service. Great location. Very reasonable price. Wife and I stayed for ten days. At first, I was worried about the room size and the lack of a fridge. This concern was misplaced. Cuba Street is full of places to eat, and if you walk a block or two off of Cuba, you quickly find very reasonable prices for meals. Even on Cuba Street prices are not very high. So, we spent our eating times outside, or bringing back takeout.

This building has a lot of character. Rather than a tall hotel, the building has a long history and is long and just a few floors tall. This makes for rather cramped rooms and lots of sounds of showers coming through the ceilings and walls, but the price is good and the feel of the building is historic and warm. Everything in our room worked perfectly.

Lastly, the CQ has a great deal where you can become a member. Upon doing so, you get 20% off in their restaurant. The Angus streak meal is really good and with the discount a great deal!

Wonderful service and front of house staff. Whichever hotel you are using there is use of the pool and gymn and spa. beautifully appointed room very comfortable bed - an economy room. spotlessly clean. Plus luggage storage if needed. Superb and all you could want in a hotel with a lovely old-world feel.- bevelled mirrors, superb wooden stairs, modern lifts in the centre of Wellington night life.
