Absolutely fantastic hotel, fantastic bar and fantastic staff, not far away from convenience stores or the main strip, subway station 3 minutes up the road, and a castle/temple across the road to visit!

I highly recommend this place.

Rooms are pretty good but a bit dated. Staff are very helpful. I would recommend not eating on the hotel fancy restaurants you can find better close by. Roof top bar is a lot of fun, if you want casual decent food and great people watching do it.

Old type design, needs some refurbishment. The staff is polite but very official and without personal attitude. Breakfast nice and with good selection, but the staff not helpful and missing this famous Japanese hospitality. Great location makes all the difference. Shuttle service operating only within limited hours, surprisingly not in the evening. Something to think for the management.

Always a good stay here no real issues. Best thing is bus to Kyoto station. So do your daily stuff go to kyoto station then bus to hotel.

The newly renovated rooms are the best. It's very well designed and modern. As for the room, I would definitely give more than 5 stars. And the staff are also very nice, friendly and professional, living up to any good ihg hotels. But the location can be a bit challenging as it's not in the center of anything. It's next to the Nijo castle, so it you are going there, it's super convenient, but you know there are so many better places to go to. And the fancy looking capsule tea machine in our room didn't work for some reason.

Fantastic. I had another response in here but that was for the hotel we stayed at. ANA is fantastic. I would travel with them again in a heartt-beat. The service is fantastic as are the people.

Beautiful, renovated room, 7th floor. I read allot of reviews before I arrived so I requested a renovated room. It is spectacularly well planned. Every bit of space is utilized in a thoughtful, functional manner. Literally, I will have to say this is one of the best designed/planned rooms I have ever stayed in. A separate toilet room with toilet features galore, spacious bathing room that opens up to the entire room via sliding screens (if you want it to). A desk as well as a table (on casters) with banquet seating. The window covering is a repeat of the Japanese sliding screen motif from the bathing room. The beds are comfy, with silky soft linens. You can order firmer or softer pillows along with aromatherapy, no charge. There are sleepy-time teas, espresso machine, great variety of lighting, all controlled by switches and buttons above the nightstand. Not to mention the actual design finishes. Very nice greys and browns. The tiled entry is great because it is so much more functional than carpet in the hallway. The shower has a full height sliding door which keeps the water inside the shower, not on the floor. The marble countertop is a nice touch. The lighted closet is a beautiful site to behold! Glass sliding doors backlit and then beautiful subtle wallpaper as background. There's a shoe dryer in there that came in handy today for drying shoes since we walked in rain all day. If you come to Kyoto, this is a great choice. Also, right across the street from Nijo Castle. Staff is helpful, courteous and professional.

One of the best hotels on Kyoto. The bathroom was the best. You can either take a bath or take a shower while sitting a chair and bucket. Other the toilet was great it's pre heated and and flush itself. If you need any extra pillow they gave you 6 kinds of pillow each with different hardness.

Location, location, location! This hotel is great for anyone looking for an upscale stay in Kyoto. The rooms are charming. The dining is pricey but the restaurants provide a “home base” after long days exploring Kyoto. I was particularly impressed with the 8th floor salon (exclusive for extended stay guests.) The stay was exceptional and they provided tons of information about Kyoto. My stay in Kyoto was made even more exceptional because of the staff at this hotel.

Ana Crowne Plaza is a great hotel with wonderful staff doing everything in their power to make you feel welcome and to let you enjoy your stay. The hotel has 4 stars, but with the level of service and helpfulness it sure feels like more than that! The room I stayed in was clean and spacious. Would recommend!

When we arrived I was underwhelmed with the assistance, trying to get out of the taxi. We had over 12 hours travel in the different trains to get there (from Sapporo) and no-one bothered to help us with our luggage out of the taxi OR help us up to our room. Poor first impression. It did get better but that stays in my mind.

Superb location overlooking Nijo castle and right next to train station. High-class and lots of facilities eg pool. Rooms are good but not worth the premium price, and food is very expensive. Can't fault it though.

My wife and I booked a room with this hotel and we're both thoroughly impressed by the hotel's cleanliness and the staff's level of professionalism, politeness and their readiness to answer your questions and meet your hotel needs. There always seemed to be enough employees for our stay to be comfortable, and the free shuttle bus to and from Kyoto Station is great! I'd recommend this location for anyone who wants to visit Kyoto and Osaka. Great job ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Kyoto :)

AMAZING. I could use a thousand positive words to.describe this hotel but none will match the experience you get staying here. Being greeted by the hostesses in the lobby and receptionists all wearing Kimonos and the ease of taking the bus to the hotel from the train station this is a place to visit. ROOMS overlook the Nijo Castle which is another treat to walk out your hotel and enter the ancient history of Kyoto. Thank you to the entire staff of the hotel you truly went above and beyond any expectation I had.

What a gorgeous hotel. It looked really shabby as we were walking up the street, the exterior is not the nicest, so we both had low expectations until we walked in to the lobby. It was beautiful! There's a waterfall outside a large window making for a very scenic view which they lit up at night. The service was great here, there were flowers in our room with a note congratulations us on our wedding anniversary.

The room was large and spacious, and while we've had more toiletries provided than we could ever expect at home at the other hotels we've been at here in Japan, there were even more here! We received daily complimentary water and a different kinds of green tea. It was a really lovely, relaxing experience. On top of that, there is a frequent shuttle to and from the main Kyoto train station so despite the fact the hotel is about a 55 minute walk away we could just take the shuttle instead.

The Ana Crowne Plaza Hotel Kyoto was a first class hotel and an excellent choice for your stay in Kyoto. The rooms were clean, well laid out, and had the best towels yet in our stay in Japan. We were with a group of Americans and all the staff were kind, friendly, and helpful. The location was superb. We were in easy reach of the subway and bus lines that we could figure out ourselves. There were also lots of taxis to take us to where we wanted to go. Walking around after dark felt safe.

Excellent hotel. Spotless clean, good rooms and a great spa with a super pool. Wife and I stayed just one night. Service was very good. We rented an electric bike at the concierge and they delivered the bikes... It's the only way to go!!

Very nice luxury hotel, situated really close the the underground station, and just a short walk to the closes bus stop. Would recommend to friends and family... Although I'd avoid the Sky Bar... they make it sound like an exclusive bar on the roof... but its just astro-turf and white plastic garden chairs with a bar and some food. Triple rooms are 2xbed and a pull out sofa bed. Overall very nice stay.

The standard room was fairly spacious and very clean. There were tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge but no in room safety deposit box though this facility was available at Reception. There were two bottles of complimentary water provided on the first day only. I understand this was due to the standard category of room we were in, which seemed petty.
Our room looked out onto a decorated roof area which was okay but I'm not sure, due to the location of the hotel, if there were great views from any of the rooms.
There was a complimentary shuttle bus service available every 20 minutes into/out of the city centre.

Lovely friendly staff, beautiful entrance and rooms were lovely. Provided a night-time 'wind down' including tea, eye mask, bath salts etc, along with a pillow menu if you weren't satisfied with the one provided! The location is fantastic - we had a view of the castle opposite. Provided an abundance of toiletries. It is right by a tube and bus stop (1 day bus pass for 500¥), definitely worth it if your using more than 2 buses, and there's so many available. Pool, sauna etc are nice and clean too. Also provides a bus to/from Kyoto station (so don't lug you baggage onto a bus to get to the hotel!). Would definitely stay again.

I was to meet my tour group at this hotel. From what I saw inside it looked fantastic, truly 5 star. My only Complaint would be that the carpet could use some heavy cleaning. The shop downstairs was great for bringing back gifts to frends and family back home.

5

Nice hotel, if a little bit "stilted" for a crowne plaza - feels more like an intercontinental.

Restaurants are good with decent food, but pricey. Rooms are nice and the beds good, but the bathroom needs some work to modernise. The WiFi is allegedly free but the signal is so weak it barely works and is too slow to get any work done.

Shuttle bus to the train station is very handy - every 15 minutes.

This hotel has a lot of potential but is also lacking in a few key areas. It presents itself as a high end accommodation and definitely has the potential to be that, however, the hotel is in serious need of updating in certain areas and also has the smell of stale cigarette smoke wherever you go which is a definite turn off if you are a non smoker. We are on a non smoking floor and in the hallway as well as our room there is a strong smell of stale cigarette smoke. The lobby and elevators also have the smell of cigarette smoke. A nice selection of restaurants is a definite plus and they have a nice breakfast. They also have nice in room amenities like Nescafe, Honor bar, and the Sleep Advantage program is pretty nice too.

7

Great hotel and a excellent location. The staff is friendly and there is a traditional Japanese theme throughout the hotel. Shuttle Bus runs from the train station, so easy access to the hotel, which I wish I would have known when I arrived. Overall, a very worthwhile property and one you should stay at!

Good hotel with a lot of restaurants within walking distance. Nijo Castle is across the street which makes this a great location if you plan on visiting there. Overall the hotel is older but it's in relatively decent shape. Air Conditioning in the hot summer here works better than the other hotels I've stayed at. Beds are comfortable and shower works good.
Dinner Buffett tonight was good as well.
Overall I would stay here again.

Staff were very friendly and accommodating. We arrived early but they managed to get us checked in two hours early since we had a toddler with us. We dined at Nijo and had Teppanyaki. Again, service was astounding. It was a bit pricey as we walked out with a fairly hefty bill but nothing unexpected. Personally, I wouldn't visit often due to the price (we had wagyu in our course) but it's a nice experience and fun. The reason for the four stars is the mattress. It wasn't comfortable. I'm not sure if that's a standard mattress in Japan but it was in the harder side and sunk down to one side causing my daughter to roll when I got into the bed. Shuttle bus to the station was an awesome bonus.

The staff was impecable in helping me. The breakfast was really complete, a lot of variety. It also has 3 restaurants, an american, a japanese, and a french, for different tastes. The room itself was huge compared to other hotels I had stayed in Japan. The hotel also offers a shuttle to and from Kyoto Station. The location isn't perfect, though, you do have Nijo Castle right in front of the hotel, and Nijojo station entrance less than 100 feet away from the entrance.

Memorable. I'll never forget my stay in this hotel. Main selling point for this hotel were the staff. They're superb and go so far above and beyond. American hotels should use Japanese hotels as case studies. All the effort goes into performing to an extremely high standard, and choose to take pride in their work over and above tips.

Limited communication by way of English (Hotel phrases only) may be seen as a problem for some. But the length at which the staff go to understand that is impressive. I doubt staff in my own home country of Australia would try 1/10th as hard.

Unfortunately on my stay we had a toilet blockage. I called the front desk, and in simplistic terms explained the issue. Within a minute, a waiter was at the door holding a jug of water (obviously understanding "water" but not "blockage" or "toilet").
I showed him the actual problem, and in no more than a minute a team of 4 in work uniforms entered to resolve the issue. It was quickly fixed and they retreated backwards continually bowing and saying sorry simultaneously.

The following day, we entered the hotel with what seemed like every staff member lined along a red carpet from the door to the lift (roughly 50+ staff). As we walked the red carpet, they all bowed together.

Although this isn't an every day occurrence (an ex-Korean PM was visiting), it shows that they will go to lengths to provide excellent service. Such a show of respect intended for a VIP, would not have been wasted on everyday guests in Western hotels.

The only negative I have for the ANA is location.

The hotel does have a shuttle from the southern exit of Kyoto station. But the location of the hotel is in the middle of the city, and no less than 10 minutes is required in walking term to any site (apart from Nijo-jo).

Nice room big enough for two persons. First hotel in Japan I visited with "always on" power outlet to charge devices even when not in the room. Everything was clean and tidy, excellent Service as usual in Japan. Big breakfast buffet with western and japanese choices. When ever I stay again a night in Kyoto, this hotel will be my choice.

4

Just one of those pretentious hotels missing the point of true service and quality.
Their breakfast area is small, 40 tables for a hotel with 400+ rooms. This regularly results in waiting times of 30+ minutes to be admitted to this area. Considering that due to this we had to skip prepaid breakfast 2 out of 3 times it is more than a joke.
To earn their 4th star in hotel classification, a fitness area was set up. Guess wat: right beside the pool, 28 degrees C, 82F, 100% humidity. No occupancy, loads of rust on the machines. We left, not to be charged €15, $17 for this fraud.

Not a bad hotel in general with Eng speaking staff but a terrible smell from shower curtain.
