Property's Green Action

Environmental challenges have an impact on the wellbeing of people and ecosystems around the world. We strive to operate as efficiently as possible across our entire value chain. For a low carbon future, we reduce and monitor energy and water use. As part of our commitment to reducing our waste to landfill, we created a comprehensive waste strategy and we collaborate with WWF to reduce food waste in our operations and supply chain. Responsible sourcing makes a difference: we source goods and services locally as possible.

Certifications

ISO 14001

ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted standard that outlines how to put an effective environmental management system in place. It is designed to help businesses remain commercially successful without overlooking environmental responsibilities, such as:

• Improve their environmental performance constantly
• Comply with local and national regulations and other requirements subscribed
• Prevent water, air and ground pollution hazards
• Control and optimise water and energy consumption
• Promote waste recycling and recovery
• Raise environmental awareness among employees and train them to adopt good practices in their activity
• Use eco-label housekeeping products
• Use sustainable forestry certified paper

Green Key Eco-Rating Program 4

With more than 1,200 hotels certified in Canada since its inception in the 1990s, the Green Key Eco-Rating Program awards hotels an environmental rating of one to five Green Keys. Green Key members are then given guidance on how to "unlock" opportunities to reduce operating costs and environmental impacts - and in turn earn more keys.

The Green Key audit looks at nine major areas of sustainable hotel operations:
• Energy conservation
• Water conservation
• Solid waste management
• Hazardous waste management
• Indoor air quality
• Community outreach
• Building infrastructure
• Land use
• Environmental management

ISO 50001

ISO 50001 is based on the management system model of continual improvement also used for other well-known standards such as ISO 9001 or ISO 14001. This makes it easier for organizations to integrate energy management into their overall efforts to improve quality and environmental management.

ISO 50001 provides a framework of requirements for organizations to:
- Develop a policy for more efficient use of energy
- Fix targets and objectives to meet the policy
- Use data to better understand and make decisions about energy use
- Measure the results
- Review how well the policy works, and
- Continually improve energy management.

The room and service was nice. I don't like the fact that all the amenities were not open. I feel that should be announced online so guests can be aware of that before they book or at least given some type of comp for that or lower their price. Their attitude was pretty much you can stay if you'd like or you can go since their amenities were closed but we had already driven so far and pretty much didn't want to have to go through the whole search again. But overall it was okay.

Nice clean comfortable room, comfy bed. The only negative would be the lighting in bathroom is not bright enough for me to put on makeup, There was lighted mirror if you can call it that my phone flashlight works better they need to invest in some new
makeup mirrors for the ladies the lighting was bad it's rather you want to look your best!

Love this hotel. This was our second visit and still the same satisfaction. The highlight is the awesome huge FREE breakfast that kept us full all day until dinner. Plus the receptionwith free drinks and snacks. Can't ask for much more. We used uber to get around and nothing cost more than 10 bucks to get too. Great location.

This was my first time in DC so what better way to start than with a stay at this great place. The hotel was centrally located, red line train station available right below the hotel, which was very convenient, restaurant and shopping center right in the pavilion and a movie theater right across the street. The front desk staff was very courteous. Overall it was a great experience and this will be my definitely go to place when back in DC. Thank you for an amazing time!!

Great experience!!! Mr. Castihlo is the best manager that Embassy suites can have. He is very professional and fast to address any difficult situation that the guests can have. Mr. Fidel and Linda in the food court are wonderful and payed attention to our every need. Muhammad always made wonderful omelettes and eggs sunny side up. This hotel is right above the metro station which made transporting around DC so quick. It also has quick and easy access to shops all around the area without having to go out on to the street. I would highly recommend this hotel !

The hotel and room itself was great, everything I'd expect from a Hilton. The staff however was not. We were told over the phone that we could check in at 1, and we were quoted one price (presumably charged when they took our card) however when we arrived, we were told the room wasn't ready and they never have rooms ready before the stated time on the web page of 3pm. Fine, we had just arrived and wanted to get lunch anyways. They gladly checked our bags and we headed out for lunch and a walk around. When we returned just after 4, we were told out king suite wasn't ready (still) and asked if we would take a double room instead (at the same price) on a different floor. When I asked why the room wasn't ready yet, I was met with a rude "I already told you, the double room is available now, it's just not on the 6th floor". I declined and asked for an estimation of when the room we booked would be ready. I was told "I don't have a time, it all depends on when the cleaning staff gets to the 6th floor". We grabbed a coffee down stairs and waited a bit. When we returned someone else was at the desk and our room was ready, however now we had a room on the 7th floor(odd). Also, the price has now gone up a bit. I'm searching now for an email to dispute the difference in price. After all that, the stay was pleasant and the room is great. I would however reevaluate the staff.

I spent one night at this property. Self parking in the garage under the hotel is straightforward. Check-in was painless, with a friendly clerk. Manager's hours were on point, with complimentary IPA and Bud Light drafts, along with wine and mixed drinks. Kudos to the hotel for serving the beers in normal pint glasses versus the "junior size" some Embassy Suites use. My King room was comfortable, with solid surface floors (not carpet). Room was clean and the functional. I didn't use the WiFi, fitness center, or complimentary breakfast so I can't comment in them. Checkout was a breeze.

This is a very nice hotel. Inside the mall there is a cheesecake factory, h&m, CVS, and other stores. Which makes things really convenient. The room was nice and comfortable, also clean. Breakfast was delicious and it was complimentary with the room. Everything was great besides the Wi-Fi. Maybe it was just my room but the Wi-Fi sucked and didn't work well. Besides that it was great.

The location was near DC and the hotel was very nice. The bottom half of the hotel was a mall with upscale shops and restaurants, which provided entertainment but was also small enough to not cause any issues with sounds. The staff was incredibly nice and professional. Bed service was prompt and breakfast had several options (including an omlette bar) and was delicious! The rooms were spacious and very clean. It was a very pleasant stay!

I arrived at 9pm, but checked in earlier that day using the mobile app. Process was super easy. Upon arrival I was quickly greeted, checked in, and easily found my room. Room was extremely clean and seemed recently renovated. Two new large TVs and clean furniture. The hot breakfast in the morning was not crowded and was very tasty (coffee, eggs bacon, sausages). They also have a made to order option which I did not use. Overall a wonderful stay.

Get a room on Military Road. It is far less noisy. They moved me after the first night and I was pretty thankful. Huge comfortable rooms. I love the atrium. It's an inspiring way to start you day. The cool LED lights are fun at night. But the best part is the made to order and free breakfast. Simply wonderful. I sincerly hope that all hotels eventually figure out that we're tired of the useless, unhealthy, carb-full "continental breakfast" and follow their model. What a great way to start the day.

I loved this hotel. I’m a Hilton employee and I will always choose Embassy Suites over Hilton resorts. Excellent location of property - with many department stores around, located inside the mall and outside as well. Movie theatre right in front. Great and spacious suites, full delicious breakfast, charming bartender and yummy cocktails, and awesome staff as well overall. Couldn’t recommend it more.

Beautiful suites. Inside shopping. Spacious rooms, but the doors have a very small crack at bottom so you hear the other doors opening and closing too much. Also, the staff doesn't speak English and it's hard to let them know when you are leaving for cleaning, so use the do not disturb sign.

This is a very nice hotel in DC. The rooms are very nice very modernize and it's attached to a small indoor mall type area. There are many nice restaurants in shops within walking distance. The breakfast buffet is very good and very large. The managers free happy hour is not a bad deal also.

It's pretty bougie. They've got snacks and other fixings in the rooms (for a price of course). The bathroom had a cool sliding door, but no lock. The TV also had some issues e.g. freezing and skipping. They had a lot of complementary offerings such as breakfast and basic toiletries. Overall, it was a nice place.

Vacation to DC for family of four. PERFECT hotel. For starters, the place is spotless. The cooked-to-order breakfast will satisfy anyone...including big eaters. No need to leave the hotel to access the Metro as it was just downstairs. 20 minutes to DC. At night the onsite bar offers free happy hour from 530-730. Numerous restaurants and shopping inside and around the hotel. Room service too. The onsite indoor pool was a great way for the kids to end the day. I do not think it could have been any better.

Just love this hotel. i can surely recommend it to anyone. Small problem: opening the fitness facility at 5:30 is too late if you have an early morning. Consider an access that is controlled as is with a 24hrs workout time. Housekeeping can always find a way to keep it usable just as they are available around the clock.

Great value. But beware of chlorine inhalation.

Loved the size of the rooms and how premium members rooms have pretty much all you can eat free chips and candy, which is refilled daily. In addition the mall downstairs gives variety and accessibility to various needs

The gym is a good size but beware... The indoor pool creates a mass amount of chlorine fumes that leak into the gym area. You might get light headed. I'm actually concerned for the employees safety.

This was a great Embassay Hotel. The staff was extremely friendly. Our waiter Terry J at the restaurant "Willies" on 3rd floor was awesome. Very nice and was always checking to make sure we didn't need anything. Complimentary breakfast is great as well. So many options to choose from and they make your omelette here as well. Fidel Rivera was very attentive and so so nice and very accommodating. He kept a permanent smile. One of my favorites there. This was by far one of the best Embassy we stayed at. Rooms are very nice as well. Clean and updated.

The rooms were nicely updated, the location was perfect with metro access below the hotel for easy access to National Mall. The breakfast was wonderful with a lot of variety and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our only complaint was the uncomfortableness of the beds! We had 2 double beds and they were the worse beds we had ever experienced at a hotel, thin mattresses and too firm. The pool was very large and our kids loved it. The reception staff was very friendly and helpful.

Right on the water, with a lithograph worthy view of the Bay Bridge, and urban in every sense of the word. Can't believe this was the old Y before Klimpton had its way with the property. The lobby is warmed by a fireplace, teas, and staff that will assist with any question. Late night check- in included a greeting by the night clerk's two cute dogs. My backup wakeup call came from a real human. Linens were crisp and abundant. I loved the perhaps inadvertent choice of the room's carpeting design, reminiscent of computer chips.

Located in Friendship Heights, just feet away from the MetroRail. There are plenty of shops nearby, multiple restaurants in the hotel, great amenities, and excellent service and information from the front desk associates. Unfortunately, the positives stop there. With our rate and room package, we received access to their snack area free of charge. However, the vending areas were empty for most of our trip. This was reported to the front desk, but the machine remained empty until the next day. The front desk agent did personally bring us requested beverages right to our room, which was very kind.

The in-hotel bar was NOT up to standards. We like to spend one night at the bar on our trips, and quite honestly, we tend to spend a couple of hundred dollars, as we drink top shelf liquors which tend to get pricey. There was only 1 bartender and the bar was overrun with people. While the bartender was friendly, he was quite obviously very inexperienced by the way he was mixing drinks (pouring from cup to cup for a drink that's supposed to shaken, shaking with improperly sized cups and the drink leaking from the shaker, etc). We got one drink each, which was a 3/10 quality drink. The bar was not stocked with key ingredients to make the most popular cocktails, so we were left with very basic choices you'd have at any hole-in-the-wall bar. Our tab was over $23 for two drinks that we didn't even finish. Needless to say, we didn't return to the bar for the rest of the trip.

There were pros and cons to the room. To begin positive, the room was larger than expected. We were very pleased with the size, cleanliness and overall appeal of the room. It was very modern and it felt like home. At one point, we had just gotten back from walking miles in the heat, and I was just exhausted. We didn't want to lie in the clean bed, as we felt "dirty". I just lied down in the floor, which speaks volumes about how I felt about the cleanliness of the room. In most cases, I would never lie on a hotel room floor, because it just seems disgusting to me. This room was very clean.

However, there were negatives, which is mostly why we wouldn't stay here again. First, the temperature control in the room was awful. When we arrived, the room was very warm, so we immediately turned the fan on high and turned the temperature down 3 degrees. Three hours later, the temperature had not changed. We turned it as low as it would go, to 65 degrees F, and the fan remained on high. It took two days for the room to come down from 74F to 70F.

Unfortunately, the worst part of the room was the bed. It was the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on. At one point, we were convinced that it was a pillowtop mattress turned upside down or that the boxspring was on top. It had NO give to it and was rock hard. I've never slept on a bed like that before and never intend to again. The only way I could sleep was on my side and had to rotate often to relieve pressure. It was unacceptable. We were sore when we woke up, and I ended up taking Ibuprofen the whole trip. The pillows were incredibly flat. I almost just wanted to use them to sleep on. I had never been so happy to get home to get a good nights rest, which really hurt us during this trip as D.C. has so much to see. Also, not getting a much needed good night's rest to get up early and walk for miles across a congested town was aggravating.

And also, the temperature control in the shower was so inconsistent. It would change from hot, cold, warm, ice cold constantly. I ended up taking both a scalding hot shower and cold shower during this stay, because the temperature was not consistent.

If you only care about a great location, I'd say this place is bar-none for that. It goes without saying that I won't be staying here again sadly.

The location is not the best for DC tourism but rather for conferences or staying in. It has a large pavilion however with shops, a Starbucks, a drugstore, and eateries to satisfy all budgets and most appetites. It does have quick access to metro but it's about 25 minutes to downtown, albeit no metro delays.
