Wow - this place is heaven! We recently stayed here for a 3 night stop during our Japan tour of Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and back to Tokyo. This was my favourite hotel of them all. It stays true to the Japanese aesthetic while keeping things chic and modern. Dining and service impressive too.

Great service. Good location that’s away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown. View of the well maintained 800 year old pond from the room took me to a zen state of mind within seconds.

Had wonderfully stay here, probably the most luxurious hotel Kyoto, everything was perfect from the staff to the the rooms and all the way to the food and service. You simply get what you paid for.

I will give it 4 star because of the location of the hotel, nearest train station is 15 mins walk I know it’s not much but I would have given it 5 starts if it was closer.

Tip: if you gonna have lunch/coffee by the pond, ask the waiter for a mosquito spray, these dam things love to suck your blood especially if your foreigner.

The hotel is a work of art. A stunning amount of work went into designing and building this beautiful hotel.

The staff are superb.

However, the breakfast and room service food quality was simply not up to the same standard as the rest of the hotel.

The owners/managers should visit the Conrad Hotel in Istanbul if they want to see the BEST breakfast buffet in the world.

Best hotel I've ever stayed at, and I've stayed at many across the world. Staff are particularly attentive (even by Japanese standards), layout is wonderful and the 800 year-old garden pond is beautiful.

This newly opened hotel is the best in Kyoto, chic Japan, immediately relaxing.
Breakfast is served in the stunning gardens which used to belong to the temple next door. The breakfast buffet selection was outstanding extending some 20 meters, and perhaps the best we have ever had anywhere in the world. Any hotel that choices to offer French stick, does so at its peril. Here chief has nailed it. You would be hard pressed to find better in France.
Sushi anyone? The hotel restaurant will not disappoint you, Fab!
In the room everything was just where you expect it and had an interesting, and well chosen selection of of nibbles and drinks.
The hotel management was Omni-present. Relax guys the staff are doing a great job!

Beautiful architecture but quite disappointing in the overall service experience. Maybe a bit slow and not up to international four season standards.

If you know about the quality, and style of the Four Seasons Hotel chain, than this place will not disappoint you. The staff takes you on a tour of the property which might I add, is stunning. They have a nice restaurant that over looks their garden and koi pond. Very nice and high end hotel for sure.

the bamboo koi pond garden & tea house was great, rooms also perfect but service still needed some work when we stayed there ~6mos after opening. it's not my usual four seasons experience in terms of service.

Very nice property and rooms. Unfortunately service level was lacklustre. This could be a Four Seasons group wide issue as the same lacklustre service seem to permeate in their other locations as well. A pity. Can be so much better.

Attentive service, even you are staying there or not. Nice lounge and interior design in general, mix if modern and traditional Japanese architecture/design.

Extraordinary stay. Impeccable service, lovely design, and a spectacular, spacious room. A few inconsistencies in the seasonal decor (were visited in the fall) but otherwise almost exactly right.

Loses one star for an underwhelming breakfast buffet. For the price, I would expect quite a bit more variety and quality - we had breakfasts as good or better at less than half the cost at multiple other locations in Kyoto and Tokyo.

You stay at the Four Seasons for the service. The concierge had recommendations for every single day of my one week stay in every single city I wanted to visit (over five cities). Every staff member from the housekeepers to the concierge was warm and genuine. The rooms are state of the art and brand new. iPad can control housekeeping, dining, and everything else you need. Blown away by the quality of the service and accommodations. Beware of the Brasserie which is the only weak link here. The quality of the food was subpar. Sushi Wakon, however, is one of the top sushi restaurants I've been to anywhere in the world. This hotel, like most other Four Seasons resorts, sets the standard. Everyone else is just trying to catch up.

Upscale hotel, very nice and new.
The stuff is very friendly and try to help, but sometimes the English was a problem.
The gym is well equipped and the spa is amazing (and expensive).
You can order in room dining with an iPad that in the room, very convenient and the food is very good.
You must try the hamburger, the burrata, and the sangria by Raul at the lounge and bar.

Incredibly relaxing and comfortable. Concierge was amazing as was the garden. Try the Tea House for an apertif of nice Sake. The only place to stay in Kyoto!

Worth every penny, this is a once in a life time hotel. Do your self a favor and make it happen. Expensive yes but I'd rather stay half the time here than double the time somewhere else.

Wow.
This hotel is perfectly formed. An up to the minute triumph in design sets against and built around it's very own 800 year old Japanese temple garden that rivals anything else we saw n and around Kyoto minus the maddening crowds.
However the real beauty of this establishment is the effortless charm, ability and ehthusiasm delivered impeccablely by each and every staff member. Standing applause for the front desk. They helped my family deal with a medical emergency over 2 days as if it were an everyday event for them.
Sadlly both the food and beverages on offer here were the best we had over 4 days in Kyoto.
I wish it were otherwise, but hands down our enduring family memory of Kyoto will be this spectacular hotel.

Terrific service and amenities. Walking distance from multiple amazing temples which is incredibly convinient. The prices of the buffet are very steep considering what you get but all the staff are very kind and helpful.

A truly special place in Kyoto. Rooms are beautiful and well designed, staff is excellent and go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and the spa experience is welcoming and relaxing. It's in a quiet neighborhood not too far from town. The main restaurant offers solid food. I didn't get to try the sushi bar -- maybe next time....
