This place was really neat. I don't have any complaints other that, due to the nature of this place being I'm downtown San Francisco, I had to park in the parking garage across the street when I got in at 10:00 PM. They did offer to help with my luggage and I should have taken them up on it!

The room smelled kind of funny, but it was charming. I loved the colorful, internationally themed decor, and I loved the restaurant. The hotel staff at the front desk were very kind, and the lobby had a strong but pleasant smell when I walked in. Would stay here again if I need to be downtown.

Its a very average place. Good for a stay if you want to stay in the city. The high price is just for the hotel being in the city. The amenities are less worth than a super 8.

If you want local flavor come here. They offer a live band every night in the lobby and it's a different band each night. Usually it's jazz; soulful jazz, or contemporary songs in a jazzy way. Plus, they offer wine with the music. Rooms are more quaint and hotel staff are fabulous! Very friendly atmosphere. Feels more like home than other hotels.

This is a great boutique hotel in San Francisco's Union Square. Though, Union Square is not my favorite neighborhood; indeed, it is a solid, central location to stay. The Hotel Carlton is quirky, which is exactly what I'm looking for when I stay in The Bay. Every employee that I came into contact with was genuinely courteous. The hotel staff is a tightknit family, and it felt like they enjoyed helping their guests. The room was clean. Similar to other boutiques in SF, the layout was funky. This is my favorite part about San Francisco's older hotels; their rooms are unique and include accents from the past. Yes, you can hear other guests opening and closing their doors, but who cares?! If you're looking for the SF experience, the Hotel Carlton is for you. If you prefer bland, uninspired lodging, the San Bruno Holiday Inn is probably more your speed.

Very good hotel, great price/quality. The restaurant is nice, but the breakfast has extremely poor service. They told us after 20 min waiting that what we ordered was no longer available. There was only powder coffee, the machine didn't work throughout our stay. The reception employees are great and extremely friendly. Rooms are big and clean, although you can hear literally everything from the rooms next door.
