Great place to stay and in a good location (quiet and easy to get to) . Lovely people with a good breakfast and rooms are nice and have everything you need. Metro is near by (so everything is within reach) and stores.

Welcoming staff. Many speak English. Rooms are comfortable and clean if smallish by us standards, larger than many I've stayed at in Europe.

No AC for cooling. Slow wifi. Books falling from the shelf hitting people. Bad value for what you pay...

We had a lovely time. The location of the hotel was great. We liked being on a quiet side street. The staff was friendly and the room, though small, was clean and nice.

This was our third time staying in the Junior Suite. It is very comfortable. The thing that makes this hotel stand out is the friendliness and efficiency of the service. Marie Therese and Ivan especially made 6 nights of dinner reservations a few weeks ahead of our visit. Everything went very smoothly. And of course the location is perfect!

A long weekend to come – Miles to spend – where to go with your beloved? Paris of cause!

Hotel Sainte-Beuve came up by chance in the search and had a great weekend package for two. Due to some experience in the continents capitals, we did not expect anything more than a room with a bed. How completely wrong!

After a very pleasant walk from Sorbonne through Jardin du Luxembourg we found the rue du Sainte-Beuve easily. Even if misanthropically inclined German Philosophers are accusing this literary critic of the 19th century of “versierte Oberflächlichkeit” (accomplished superficiality), we can only guess: If the qualities of Hotel Sainte-Beuve are a late reflection of this alleged 19th century superficiality, I rather prefer this to any 21st century profoundness.

But now the hotel:
Situated in an ideal spot outside of the immediate circle of tourist craziness and between Luxembourg and Montparnasse you enter from an exhausting day and are greeted with – civil hospitality! Not sleek professionalism. Not artificial “friendliness”. Not fake “authenticity”: Just straight forward, honest, civil, bourgeoisie friendliness and civility.

Recognizing that these Germans from Berlin probably have not a lot of experience in Paris, the Madame Receptionist equips them with the basic recommendations how to get around and where to go and sends them to their room, which is just a perfect example of how to do a hotel in a house which we would estimate to be built in the early 20th century (definitely pre-WW 1). The room has everything one needs and wants. How relaxing! A nap on the comfortable beds to get ready for the evenings appointment – and there we go…

The breakfast next day was great as well. Uplifted standard. The American family on the other table and the German corporate party of three from Düsseldorf being on an extended business trip to their headquarters were obviously very happy as well.

This pattern of, called back, expressed his “désolé” and gave advise that – most of the times – the keys will appear in the house or dignified civilness and honesty continued beyond our stay. When we thought to have lost our keys in the room, the receptionist immediately check the room personally pockets after a while (which was right).

To summarize:
Who wants to experience the charm of the Bourgeoisie of the continent – whether discrete or not – and spend a genuine time in Paris should book a long weekend in Hotel Sainte-Beuve.

Nicely located near Luxembourg Gardens and metro. Staff were so helpful in all regards. Avoid the breakfast, go around the corner to Boulangerie Julian and watch the people strolling to the Gardens.
