Property's Green Action

To protect the environment, we are reducing water use, energy consumption and recycling waste with the goal of limiting our carbon footprint. We integrate sustainable development into our operating procedures, contribute to preserve local communities and the natural ecosystems in which our hotel is located. With all sister hotels, we have already planted three million trees as part of a global reforestation project supported by the United Nations. The last but not the least, we engage our partners and suppliers in their sustainable development strategy and integrate them into the responsibility chain.

Certifications

Planet 21 Bronze

AccorHotels created an action plan that offered actions listed below to promote sustainable development, tailored to the hotel context. Those initiatives are structured into 4 pillars & 2 specific issues:

- PEOPLE: Raise employees’ awareness of the eco-friendly practice
- CUSTOMERS: engage guests in a sustainable experience
- COMMUNITIES: work hand-in-hand with local communities for a positive impact
- PARTNERS: co-innovate to open up new horizons

- BUILDING: Move towards carbon-neutral buildings
- FOOD: Strive for zero food waste & healthy sustainable food

Then, to go even further, each hotel selects other actions from over 60 additional initiatives. This flexible system enables it to build its own program in line with AccorHotels’ commitments, but also reflects the hotel’s local characteristics:
- Its prior level of progress on sustainable development
- Its priority areas for improvement
- The environment and local issues

A weighting mechanism establishes the action achievement level with a score that places the hotel around the higher levels. Each level marks the progress hotels are making in implementing the Planet 21 program.

It's across the road from te aro school. Access is not great but it's central so can't expect more. Have been here to attend a function and It was great

All and all a nice place. Better suited to a corporate type visit over a family getaway. Restaurant and bar had nice views of the city and food was good. Room was small but clean and the bed was comfortable enough. All staff were friendly and professional.

Good experience and nice ambiance. Staff are accommodating. A bit far from restaurants and city centre. Quite a climb uphill if you dont know there is an elevator on the other street. Overall recommended if staying in Wellington.

One of the nicest hotels near the CBD for the price, it’s my standby. A tiny bit out of the way, but well worth it.

Great place, warm and welcoming, friendly staff. Close enough to everything, but also just a bit removed from the hustle and bustle. Would happily stay here again.

Rooms refurbished but air conditioning unit in the rooms very noisy. Beds very comfortable. Room service toasted sandwich worst I have ever had.

Nicely refurbished, clean rooms. Comfy bed. Not well sound proofed. Decent breakfast. Great front of house staff.

Copy and paste of my agoda review.
"loved the kawakawa tea and delicious bikkies to welcome you into the building every chilly wellington night. pool and sauna are pretty decent. bed comfy. Very friendly front of house staff.

breakfast is a bit boring, the cooked bit at least. the continental aspect and fruit was pretty good. also, they persisted in putting out an empty BBQ sauce bottle at brekkie for 4 days in a row. weird.

internet ok, bit patchy at times and limited to 1gb (heaps but an issue for some ppl)

nice in room tea range

recommended"

Stayed in a deluxe king room. Location was a little strange, right in the middle of a large residential area. The views were nice though as the hotel was halfway up a hill. Restaurant (Forage) was a little overpriced for what the offerred, especially the appetisers. Overall a nice stay as what matters most are the rooms and those were well appointed. (No bathtub though)

Nice and clean and staff were friendly. Really bad room service options. (Like rediculas limited annoyingly ) no hanging space in the rooms. Live out of your suitcases

What fantastic value for money. A modem and well equipped hotel that would challenge most four Star hotels in Wellington. Typically a $10 Uber ride from parliament.

Stayed here a couple of times now, and the place is immaculate. Clean, modern and great service, really enjoyed our stay. They have Bluetooth enabled smart TVs and so many power outlets, we love it. Only downside is there isn't free parking and it's a bit far from CBD.

Price for two nights was comparable to a hostel or bed and breakfast, location was further from CBD than we imagined but still within an easy walk. Decor was a bit dated especially in bathroom but overall was very reasonable for the cost. Now that the hotel has had a renovation and trades as the Grand Mercure, this has probably changed.

Absolutely beautiful hotel, really elegant. Staff were friendly. Really smooth checking in and checking out process. $30 for parking was a bit much as most hotels charge $20 but other than that no faults at all. Really nice luxury rooms. Nice updated modern classic vibe.

For the money, its pretty nice.
But breakfast is not buffet and that can be misleading for many people. I dont really recommand having breakfast at the hotel.

We had our official conference here. The conference room, facilities, support and attention to detail was top class. The food served during afternoon was very good. The conference room was big with good ventilation. A very satisfying experience.

Average hotel. Claims they have free WiFi but very limited amount. Lasted me half an hour. I requested an early check-in and late checkout, both were accepted but then ignored. Room was okay but didn't seem too clean. Smart TV wasn't set up properly. Staff were friendly and the facilities were nice.

The staff at the Grand Mercure are absolutely wonderful - friendly and helpful at all times and really made us feel welcome. The hotel is beautiful, the food was delicious (and we ate at the restaurant many times during our stay - never had a bad meal!), the breakfast buffet was fantastic too. Valet parking is extremely good value as there is limited parking in the area (true in most of Wellington city tho). I will definitely be back :)

Really nice hotel but only parking is $35 valet. There is a back entrance that may be easier to self park especially on weekends. Weekdays most street parking requires resident coupon.

Brilliant place with quick and extremely helpful services. Is brand new, so even better! Has good views from a smalliah hill top. Is an accor group hotel, so don't forget to bag your points whole staying here. Food services can be improved. Being new, fitness center and swimming pool is expected to open by September 17

4

Great staff and management but- noisy neighbour through connecting door, single glazing so cold damp windows, absolutely hopeless main lighting and useless reading lamps, but beds and food fantastic and porter/magician a bonus during fire emergency. I would not drive a big coach anywhere near here. Overall didn't hit its 5 star rating.

Recently renovated to a high standard and when we stayed they weren't quite open but staff were working hard to make our experience a good one. If you take a conference package make sure you don't have the dinner in the conference room - a change of scene is essential!

Great hotel! The team is really awesome Michaela and her associates have been 100% helpful, even arranging restaurant reservations and trip recommendations. I'm really impressed with the service and the food quality is great too. Overall, I'm very pleased and my 21-day stay has been great. I'll definitely come back.

Thanks!

Don't believe some of the older ratings this hotel is lovely and staff are so friendly and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised my room was modern and clean. The bathroom was very modern and the shower pressure excellent.
Well worth staying at if you want a quiet spot close to CBD.

Attended a conference and had some additional needs so I could express breastmilk for my baby: these guys were fantastic and very accommodating. As a conference facility it was great - really good room and temperature, natural light and catering was awesome.
Highly recommend.

Very small room 2 people meant tripping over bags, no basic free Wi-Fi, very slow draining bathroom sinks and beds were uncomfortable and felt like you would role out. Staff were fantastic though.

Very happy with our experience . 6 of us booked two nights in three rooms. Excellent value for money, in fact only a few dollars more per person per night than sharing 4 to a room in a hostel. Lovely friendly Japanese manager . Dated, but clean. Finding the back door was helpful and made the walk to the city much shorter and easier. We would certainly stay again. Many Thanks.

We only ate dinner here. Luckily... The hotel is really in the middle of nowhere - very hard to find. Looks like a time travelling back in the '70. At 5:45 p.m. there was not a single staff anywhere. Smells like an old, mouldy backyard, I guess furniture were left here 30 years ago. Restaurant is hidden at the back and looks more like beach bar rather than a hotel restaurant. We were seriously thinking of leaving but hence it took ages to get there and we were hungry gave it a go. Had venison with mash for dinner. It was a good average meal, unfortunately no spices or salt at all on the mash - therefore no flavours whatsoever, the venison was all right though. All in all probably the worst restaurant experience we have had in the last 5 years.

On Tuesday the 16/06/15 I made a booking for 3 nights for early 2016 through Reservations, I am still trying to get confirmation of my booking via email (simple). - It is now 2 days later and still No email - I've been on the phone several times to Reservations,(at my expense). Every time my email address is read back to me its WRONG !- even my phone number was WRONG!

About an hour ago (time was 3.25pm) 18/06/15 - I rang Reception, all my details were still WRONG! Reservations hadn't corrected them through there computer system!-It's frustrating when you have to repeat the same information time and time again

I haven't yet stepped into the Hotel- Unbelievable- Not good enough- Two stars for Customer Service?

Good hotel, friendly and very helpful staff, pool is nice and the breakfast really good.Location is close to Cuba Street with bars but you dont hear anything, 12minutes walk to Te Papa or i-Site.
Had a very pleasant stay, was gifted with free breakfast and wifi 4 a day and got a new room after complaining about the rude people next door.

It's been a shock really... Hotel is in the middle of nowhere, smelly corridors, rooms refurbished in 70s at best, TV which doesn't change volume without dancing around it, bathroom just like in cheap Thai guest house. And guess what - $180 per night!!! Luckily my company paid it for me but I'd never agree to stay here again
