Property's Green Action

To protect the environment, we are reducing water use, energy consumption and recycling waste with the goal of limiting our carbon footprint. We integrate sustainable development into our operating procedures, contribute to preserve local communities and the natural ecosystems in which our hotel is located. With all sister hotels, we have already planted three million trees as part of a global reforestation project supported by the United Nations. The last but not the least, we engage our partners and suppliers in their sustainable development strategy and integrate them into the responsibility chain.

Planet 21 Bronze

AccorHotels created an action plan that offered 76 actions to promote sustainable development, tailored to the hotel context. It sets out 16 mandatory actions for achieving the “Bronze” level, which must be obtained before moving on to the higher levels. Those initiatives are structured into 4 pillars & 2 axes:

- PEOPLE: Raise employees’ awareness of eco-friendly practice
- CUSTOMERS: engage guests in a sustainable experience
- COMMUNITIES: work hand-in-hand with local Communities for a positive impact
- PARTNERS: co-innovate to open up new horizons

- BUILDING: Move towards carbon neutral buildings
- FOOD: Strive for zero food waste & healthy sustainable food

Then, to go even further, each hotel selects other actions from over 60 additional initiatives. This flexible system enables it to build its own program in line with AccorHotels’ commitments, but also reflecting the hotel’s local characteristics:
- Its prior level of progress on sustainable development
- Its priority areas for improvement
- The environment and local issues

A weighting mechanism establishes the action achievement level with a score that places the hotel around the higher levels. Each level marks the progress hotels are making in implementing the Planet 21 program.

The Green Key

Green Key is an eco-label awarded to around 2,400 hotels and other sites in more than 52 countries worldwide. Achieving the Green Key award requires compliance with a range of criteria, including:

• Comply with legislation and CSR policy within the areas of environment, health, safety and labour
• Prepare an environmental/sustainability policy and action plan
• Train staff on environmental/sustainability issues
• Display information about Green Key and other environmental/sustainability initiatives
• Display information about local transportation and nearby parks/conservation areas
• Implement water saving initiatives in guest rooms, e.g. flow restrictors in taps and showers, smart watering initiatives of the garden, etc.
• Install programme for the reuse of towels and/or sheets in guest rooms
• Separate waste and implementation of waste saving initiatives (including food waste)
• Avoid the use of chemical cleaning products with dangerous compounds
• Safe storage of chemical products
• Stationary and paper are environmentally friendly produced
• Implement energy saving initiatives in guest rooms, e.g. energy efficient light bulbs, standard defined heating/cooling temperature, etc.
• Purchase of food/beverage products that are organic, eco-labelled, fair-trade labelled and/or locally produced
• Avoid chemical pesticides and fertilisers in green areas
• Staff areas fulfil same requirements as guest and public areas
• Encourage cooperation with suppliers and local community on environmental/sustainability matters

Overall ok, but pricey given the size and quality of the rooms. Right next to the Red Light district in Amsterdam, which may not necessarily be a plus. Bar and patio are a little bit uninspiring. Quality of service varies quite a bit.

Does not live up to the hype. Lost my bag because they did not take it out of the taxi. The Resturaunt is trying to hard to make dishes that are different and nice on the eyes but they have forgotten that you eat it. Not a restaurant that I would go back to or recommend.

Genuinely surprised by how good this place is. Love the vibe, the lobby - Bars are GREAT and the Bridges restaurant is a special find!! Great staff all across the property. My room was especially teeny-tiny - but still, very happy. Natch - you are in a central spot...Very close to Dam Square and incredibly close to the fun/seedy side of town. So close, you can almost smell it. and by almost, I mean, you can actually smell it, if you turn right!! :) I will file this spot under: Love.

If anyone is looking for great deals on hotels go to HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around... I am seventy years old and I have been travelling the world on business since 1980. Over the years I have stayed in many top flight hotels. However, this is the first time I have felt the urge to write a review and I am doing so because this time everything was just right. The location in the centre of Amsterdam, the friendly service and the meals were all of exceptional quality. I felt completely at home. The only problem is that my wife came with me, and now she thinks this is how I live every time I am away on business.

This great hotel is located in the heart of Amsterdam. Casual guests and cool staff 🔝. Around the hotel are galleries, shops and boutiques 👍. Good cafes and good bars are nearby ☕️🍸. We will gladly come again 🔝👍.

Ideal location for a weekend visit to Amsterdam. The building was GRAND but the rooms were small. Minutes from the rail station. Very walkable to the red light district and shopping area.

Words can not express how grateful we will remain to the staff at Sofitel Legend. It was our daughter’s birthday - and once they knew- they pulled out every stop... from a flower to the room to a off menu dessert prepared by the executive shelf. Such kindness. Exquisite service. Thank you!

Last visit here was for the Christmas brunch. The building is stunning. The employees friendly and professional. The live music very pleasant. The food could have been a bit better though, especially for this price. For example the pasta was slightly overcooked. And we could notice there was a bit of confusion between the kitchen and the waiters. But all in all a great experience.

Everything thing about our visit was perfect. From the website search and booking to the actual stay in the hotel. Super friendly and attentive staff. Being shown to our room by the check in agent was a first and a glimpse of the classy service to come. The room sparkled and was extremely well equipped. The staff at every turn were friendly and helpful. Bridges restaurant was top notch with equally friendly and helpful staff. We'll be back to Amsterdam and will be back to The Grand.

My first time at the Legend was a fantastic experience. The staff is super attentive and was always super friendly. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try out the butler service, which was offered to me as a platinum member, as I was there for business and had no specific needs in those few hours I spend in the room. The staff at the bar was fantastic. Its worth trying a cocktail as the bartender can make you something very special. I have to discount the score from a 10 to a 9 as the Gym is really too small and feels very cramped, which is important for me after a days work

One of the most amazing hotel's I've ever stayed at! Every single member of the staff is committed to superior customer service; I was amazed that every time I walked through the lobby a staff member approached me to ask what they could do to help me. Every single staff member from top to bottom were fantastic. From the wonderful person that checked me in (who also asked about my Dutch heritage) who then arranged for a wonderful surprise to be delivered to my room, to the amazing host at the restaurant during breakfast. When I come back to Amsterdam with my family we will definitely be staying at your hotel!

We had a lovely stay in The Grand Hotel in Amsterdam. The hotel is well-located in a beautiful building. The staff was helpful. We were really impressed with breakfast and with the dinner we had in the hotel restaurant. The room was very comfortable, and the interest connection was reliable and quick.

Beautiful experience from initial greeting to the first time in the room. The room is large, very nice. The bathroom is a little bit complicated. Starting on the left is the toilet, then a counter with mirror and electric outlet, then a walk-through shower with a door on the left side, then a sink and mirror with outlet for shaving, then a tub. Shower water wets the floor on both sides which we mopped up with towels. We also found ourselves walking through the shower frequently. The complication is when the shower floor is wet. You don't want to get your pants leg wet, but you also don't want to walk through the wet shower with shoes on. We ended up using the slippers.

We stay over 60 nights a year in hotels and expected more from this 5 star hotel. The room we were 'allocated' fell short of our expectancy and we experienced several problems both with the location of the room and housekeeping. Check in was good, we were escorted to our room, turned out to be the top floor, a long way from the elevator and overlooking the street. We discovered being in a room on the top floor meant that the eaves were a problem . We asked for a lighter weight bedding and more coat hangers, both flung on the couch when we were at dinner. I remade the bed and put the hangers in the wardrobe. At night the street was noisy, bathroom drains smelled. We had asked for a quiet room. Rather than have us leave, the hotel upgraded our room but did not add the extra pillows previously requested, we did not bother to request them. We had one good nights sleep. At check out the hotel gave us a gift, we would much rather have had a better Hotel experience.

our plan was to arrive in the afternoon, but we had to leave the cruise ship early, arrived at the hotel in the morning. The hotel is amazing and the staff very helpful and accommodating. Our room wasn't quite ready so they offered us a free breakfast and what a breakfast it was. The front desk staff are very approachable and had tons of information and very helpful. I would absolutely stay there again.

Very courteous staff, excellent service with a smile.... a special mention about Mr Luca in the restaurant whose hospitality was so warming !! The front desk Mr Timur was very helpful and the concierge desk is full of knowledge. The low point was the very tiny size of the 'classic' rooms. They are smaller than the smallest that I have ever stayed. To add to it a black tiled toilet and dim lights... make it claustrophobic and accident prone. Please get your council to remove the smelly public toilet sitting just outside the grand entrance to the Grand.

I really liked the location of the hotel since it was not too crowded outside but within walking distance of the sites. The Junior Suite was very spacious and they were able to add a twin bed for our friend visiting for a couple days. Service was very good overall and the breakfast was nice. The only negative thing was that there was a guest one day yelling at one of the bellman at reception. It was very scary. The spa was great. I wish there would have been coffee or tea available in the mornings in the library. I would stay here again.

We stayed in the hotel for three days following a river cruise from Budapest top Amsterdam. The cruise was great, and our stay at The Grand capped off the trip very well. The staff was always friendly and attentive. Our bedroom and all of the common areas were tremendous. The building is historic but totally up to modern standards. Artwork, furnishings, and design features were outstanding and comfortable. When and if we're back in Amsterdam, we would not consider staying anywhere else.

Hotel is fantastic, staff are so helpful its brilliant. However the breakfast which the hotel itself describes as the most important of the day has dropped since our last stay. Service on the first morning was awful, so much we walked out. Returned for the second morning and order was wrong, it was just average. Apart from that, the room was great, room service outstanding and our butler could have not been more helpful. Also a great location.

While our room was a little cramped given we had 3 of us staying in a room built for 2, it was still quite nice and comfortable. All of the staff members from the front desk to the bellmen to the restaurant were genuinely concerned with our care and comfort. The only challenge we had was one of our 2 rooms was not ready when arrived before lunch, which is understandable. But when it still wasn't ready at 4:00 pm that became a bit of an issue for us. We also had to make a couple of inquiries about the room even though we gave them our cell number to call when it was ready. Despite this small matter, the overall experience, the elegant historic property itself, the beautiful garden where we had breakfast and the perfect central location made this the perfect place for us.

Excellent and will be coming back. Details at reception ( delights, tea, wet towels) very thoughtful. Service personalised and attentive. Quality of food and drink tops. Breakfast options exceed expectations. A lovely garden makes the experience even better. Rooms are tastefully decorated with delightful details, toiletries, bedding and towels are lush. A beautiful hotel with a fab one Michelin star restaurant as well.. totally recommended.

Service is friendly, warm and helpful, that made me feel comfortable and at home. A Michelin star restaurant that is right there, and an indoor garden restaurant that is quiet and beautiful. My experience had nothing lacking in terms of staying in a hotel. I will for sure visit this hotel in the future. And the price was amazingly reasonable. I also enjoyed the spa, and was actually able to swim in the swimming pool, which is unusual in the middle of Amsterdam. the location is at the central, so close to everything, but yet quiet and peaceful

it is of course a beautiful hotel and my room was fabulous but the personal service at the desk, showing me my room, any help I needed - that made it exceptional. And the shower was the best I have seen in 100's of hotels! loved the place, had stayed before and it has only gotten better.

Great room. Exceptional staff. Extremely accommodating, even with special requests. I loved the little treats left in the room. The presentation of the macaroons was incredible. The breakfast was something to look forward to each morning, and Hester our waitress was a delight. I'm a seasoned traveler, and this was one of my favorite places. It is also in an excellent location.

The location is so lovely, staff were so friendly, helpful and easy to communicate with. Also they were supporting and at your service whenever you need and provide you with your entire request. However, there were few things which were extremely below my expectation to find it from luxury such hotel. The first two days the room cleaning was very good, but to my surprise we found that some areas in the room were never cleaned and full of dust!! One of the days found one of the coffee cup was not properly washed, still some coffee affects in it. When sometimes were requiring for a service to be received in the room, the service was too slow. I was expecting from this hotel to find things much better from lower standard hotels. Nonetheless, which kept us stay in this hotel was the good customer service.

Lovely hotel with polite and friendly English speakIng staff. Large contemporary rooms with all modern facilities. Bathroom was a joy. Well stocked minibar although no ice making facilities. Food in Bridges restaurant was a excellent. Breakfast had a good choice , which also included sparkling wine. Service was generally efficient but when the breakfast room got busy things became a bit chaotic. One minor disappointment was the fact the their was no dedicated bar during the day, and when the bistro was busy ( as it normally was), drinks had to be served and drank n the lobby of the hotel.

The experience was OUTSTANDING in all regards. The hotel is beautiful. The whole staff is friendly, courteous, helpful and immanently well-qualified. The concierge staff was particularly helpful in helping ensure our 3 days in Amsterdam went very, very well. The hotel location is excellent for touring Amsterdam. We enjoyed the hotel tour. The hotel is immaculate. The room was fantastic. We enjoyed the "surprise" in our room each evening-chocolate, cheese, etc. The Sofitel Legend is clearly deserving of the 5 star rating. The restaurant manager and wait staff were excellent. Food quality was excellent. We really enjoyed the breakfasts.

This is a beautifully appointed hotel in a terrific location with top-notch welcoming service. We thoroughly enjoyed daily breakfast. We loved having an evening drink at the bar. We were with a Tauck group. The hotel public areas are lovely and the staff is for the most part very good---friendly and obliging. The location is excellent. The main negatives were a) a coffee maker that defied our efforts to operate it (a call to the front desk did nothing to help); b) the lack of a full length mirror; c) a (charming) bar too small to actually visit; and d) a disconcertingly high step into the bathroom---treacherous to jetlagged seniors. But overall, a nice hotel, and one we would happily revisit.

Overall, my wife and I enjoyed our stay at Sofitel for the three nights we were there. Unfortunately, we were not very impressed with the spa facilities at all. The steam room was cold and uninviting and not operating correctly at all. The water in the pool and spa area was cold and once again uninviting. The sauna seemed to be fine but could do with a small dim light so you can see the egg timer at least! The biggest gripe was the price of the breakfast which we both felt was overboard for what was on offer and hence we chose to have breakfast elsewhere. The room itself was very comfortable and facilities more than adequate for our needs. The staff were pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable.

Had afternoon tea at Sofitel the Grand Amsterdam yesterday using a promotion by Albertheijn. So I'm not sure if the experience I had is related to me going there and not paying the full price or not. The different tea flavors they served throughout the afternoon tea 'complemented' the different courses, but they didn't change tea cups so what we got, was that different kinds of teas mixed together, and for a star restaurant like Sofitel, I think they can afford to switch tea cups if they are serving different flavored teas and they pour a lot of the tea leaves in your tea cup while serving the tea. I expected more from the food, but I was very disappointed with it. This however is a personal problem as I don't like alcohol and the jam for the scones was made of port. I could smell amd taste the port with every bite. I didn't like the flavor of the macaron. It was also too soft, instead of a bit cripsy/chewy. The servers didn't explain to each table what they were serving so we had no idea what everything was. To end my review on a positive note:: the area where the afternoon tea was held was very nice and cosy.

Very well located. Beautiful. Views to remember. Must say that there was quite too much noise in the hotel. Children loved it, as did I. Such a diverse place, though 2 days is plenty, with children. Service was good..perhaps a smoother, quieter and more luxurious experience would have brought this to a 4 star, for me. A tad pricy.

The decor is outdated. The service is moderately decent. Prices of the produce are a rip off and the food is bad. The breakfast is approx 36 euros a head. Basically for a yogurt with some eggs, bacon and sausages, a total rip off. We were haggled constantly regarding a room deposit, that was totally unnecessary considering we paid in advance. Be warned the WiFi is only 60kbps unless you pay an upgrade fee of over 10 euros per day! The room toilets smell horrible.. This hotel just isn't good and I consider it a complete rip off.
