Green Key Eco-Rating Program 4

With more than 1,200 hotels certified in Canada since its inception in the 1990s, the Green Key Eco-Rating Program awards hotels an environmental rating of one to five Green Keys. Green Key members are then given guidance on how to "unlock" opportunities to reduce operating costs and environmental impacts - and in turn earn more keys.

The Green Key audit looks at nine major areas of sustainable hotel operations:
• Energy conservation
• Water conservation
• Solid waste management
• Hazardous waste management
• Indoor air quality
• Community outreach
• Building infrastructure
• Land use

The service was amazing! Free beer and wine from 5-6pm. Cute black lab was wondering around the lobby was super well behaved and owned by the staff. The beds were comfy and room looked very modern and appealing. The staff was very friendly. Prices were higher, but the experience justified it.

If anybody is trying to find good deals on hotels visit HoteIBully. com booked a hotel on there and they had the best rates anywhere! I had a really great experience here. The room was very nice and modern. The bathroom and bath products were all great. The pool deck was fun and hip and we had a great Sunday just hanging out for a few hours before lunch. The service was impeccable across the board. The check-in staff made me feel welcome, the valet helped stow our bags and the pool deck staff were just wonderful. The bed was super comfortable and the room had a neat view of the pool deck. There is absolutely nothing bad whatsoever to say about this Kimpton and I would stay here again.

Excellent service! Super friendly people working in the front desk. The rooms are luxorius, the swimming pool area includes a big bar and has excellent sun conditions. Highly recommended!

Really impressed. The only negative thing I can think of is the pool bar service was less than impressive and the handles for the sink and shower were lose and wouldn't stay in place. The water pressure was good. Love the bellhops, they rock! Housekeeping was over the top and the front desk staff were awesome.

This Kimpton is great. if you can follow directions and not get frustrated or turned-around by the one-way streets it's easy to get to. Clean, welcoming, and roomy - each of my multiple stays here have been quick but pleasant ones. They are very pet friendly too and have brought my dogs a pet bed and 'pupcakes' which we felt was a nice touch. Our rooms were good-sized and clean, comfortable and quiet. The location is great and safe, but this area of downtown San Diego can get crowded if it is peak season of they have a big, city-wide event happening. It's close to many good eateries, and live music venues, tourist attractions, and the hotel staff is more than happy to help you find your way about town. In summary, this is the better of the 2 Kimpton hotels in San Diego! I've stayed at both, and prefer this one due to its location (and the other one's proximity to the jail).

Hotel is an older remodel but done super well and in a great location. However if you book this hotel be prepared to pay an additional $20 Guest Services fee and if you drive your own vehicle be prepared to also be raped at $49 per night for their valet, which they do not disclose until you get there. Furthermore for the additional amount that you spend they were also too cheap to put coffee machines in the rooms. They do however have Community Coffee downstairs. The benefit of that is you will be standing in line with everyone from Barefoot drunks from the night before, girls wearing pj shorts, to businessmen just to take your coffee back upstairs and enjoy it before your shower like a normal human on vacation. So you probably should just add an additional $70 on to whatever price you got this room for and be prepared to see the shitshow in the morning when you want coffee. For that ill rate it as 3 ....enjoy

The room i got was nice. Though, it was a little different than i thought. Mine was on 3rd ? Floor and through the window, i could see the pool. but, the curtain is with clear(?) cotton so that anyone from there could see inside. the front desk staffs didn't really welcome.. By the way, staffs at parking place were nice.

The rooftop bar was nice. The valet took a really long time when we first arrived. It was difficult to see where the entrance was because of the location, but it was perfect because it is right in the heart of many fun clubs, restaurants, and things to do. We didn't really require much by way of service as this was just a quick overnight stay so I cannot comment on that. I'd stay there again.

Great location in downtown. Was here for a wedding and stayed in both a suite and a normal king room over the weekend, and the differences were odd choices. Ex. The king room had a great stand/sit bath tub with jets and an open view to the TV in the main room--the suite did not. The king room had a better bed than the suite--much softer. The king room also, while technically smaller, felt more open and would have been a better choice to have 8 groomsmen getting ready in. The suite felt cramped. Suite also didn't have a mini fridge. (In all honesty, the suite from the get-go didn't really feel like a suite, considering what the bride and groom had was also refereed to as a suite. Ask for the specifics when booking to make sure you know what to expect with how they describe their teirs of amenities.) Overall build and furniture quality of both rooms was excellent. Furnishings are definitely worth the price you pay for these arrangements. Front desk can also manage expectations better by being honest with estimating how long to expect bell hop services.

My wife and I went to San Diego to do the Hot Chocolate run. We found this hotel online and booked it because it was close to the start location for the Run. We are so glad we stayed here. It was a little hard to find but once we did we were greeted buy a very kind parking attendant valet/bell hop named Zach. We checked in at the front desk and both the girls who helped us were extremely friendly, helpful, and very sweet. Zach parked our car and took our bags up to oor room. He spent several minutes getting to know us and talking to us about the city. The room was larger than I expected and very nicely decorated. We had a great view of the pool and the City. The bed was very comfortable and the amenities were adequate. We can't say enough about all the staff at the hotel. Everyone was very friendly. Even the maintenance guys and housekeeping would stop what they were doing, smile, and say hi as we walked by. But the front desk staff were the best! There was one employee named Anna who really went out of her way to help us. We wanted to watch a movie in our room and since there was no option on the in-house system we went downstairs to ask if they had any movies. She showed us the selection and we were not satisfied. We talked quite a bit about what movies we liked and what movies she liked. Later on that day we got a knock at the door and it was room service that brought us up a DVD player and several movies that Anna went and picked out for us. She made some handmade envelopes and drew pictures on them to represent each movie She selected for us. She also sent up some popcorn and some wine. She topped it all off with a wonderful handwritten note wishing us relaxing evening. The hotel is centrally located in downtown and walking distance to a lot of the major attractions. We highly recommend this hotel. If you stay there say hi to Anna and Zack for us. Also don't miss out on the parrot statues in the hallway named Rhett and Scarlett.

The service here is nothing short of phenomenal. The rooftop bar and pool is a nice touch, but is really the view of nearly every room, so it can get a bit lout in the early pm. With that said it quiets down well. Great coffee service in the lobby, but coffee makers are not found in rooms. However they can be requested. My only real complaint are the beds. If you enjoy rock hard beds you will be fine, but it was VERY firm. Great location. Nice place. Firm firm firm beds. As a last note, the arm clocks here have outlets and are the easiest alarms to set, which more nice than you might imagine.

Such a cute hotel. So clean and well managed. I've stayed at a kimpton hotel before and we got the same awesome service as expected. The room was beautiful, stylish and comfy. We got the king room with a spa jacuzzi. The view was pretty nice and there were plenty of fresh towels each day. I just wish there was a coffee maker in the room. Also every night at 5-6 the hotel would have a social wine hour filled with lots of free wine and it was a good way to meet people. The pool is nice but a bit small and it's located outside where there is a lounge on the roof with a full bar and lots of seating.

My family of four stayed at this boutique hotel in the Gaslight District of San Diego. We found it to be upscale, cozy and nicely decorated. The staff was friendly and helpful. Although I knew we would have to pay for parking, the parking was a little pricier than I was expecting. I would definitely stay here again.

This is the first hotel my boyfriend and I ever shared together. It had a beautiful deep soaking tub with a spacious living area and a comfortable bed. The service was great, I got along especially well with the cleaning ladies. We had drinks at the bar and enjoyed the beautiful rooftop view near the pool. It was a convenient downtown location to local restaurants. Parking at the hotel overnight is pricey so be conscious of that when staying here. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this hotel. It was a lovely experience.

Such a beautiful hotel, the staff was super friendly and helpful. I was assisting with the AVID conference that’s held yearly in downtown SAN Diego and it’s a perfect place to host events. The only downside is that the pool is open to the public and is very very busy on the weekends. This hotel is geared towards young professionals as it is a party destination on the weekend.

Friendly staff. The desire to be “ritzy” takes away from the warmth of the environment. There is mediocre complimentary coffee if you walk downstairs in the morning. Large # of homeless on every corner asking for cash made me uneasy.

If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can check it out on HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around... Had a great stay! We had to wait longer than we would have liked to get our baggage to the room but the service was impeccable otherwise. Our party had a suite with an adjoining room that suited us perfectly. Even the pullout was extremely comfortable. The week day wine social was a great way of meeting some of the other guests and the weekend brunch was great. Being in the heart of the downtown area we were able to get around comfortably to all the restaurants and the great night life without a vehicle.

Very friendly Staff, lovely rooms . Our room had a private patio with a view of pool...I advise it was my bday, and I came back to the room with a surprise bottle of champagne!! In the morning they have coffee in lobby, not just a warm cup but you can make ice coffee which I love , so it was a great touch. The lovely lady who checked us in recommended we catch a Padres game , the stadium is so close so we decided spare of the moment to go.... I ended up having the best time EVER at that game, and I'm a (Tigers fan)!! Lol. Thank to everyone at the hotel for a great stay , my first time in San Diego and I'll be back.

Professional staff that does their best to make sure you're in your room quickly and that your experience is great. The rooms are well-appointed and have a feel of luxury that is above average. The areas around the hotel can generate a lot of noise and there is usually a high number of 20 to 30 somethings, so be prepared for late night noise.

Very nice located hotel, a block away from Petco Park and a block away from all the live clubs and bars. Had a great time this past weekend living the city life. The overnight parking was rough $50 a night, the pool was a little small, not a kid friendly pool, most people are having drinks around the 10x30 3.5 inches deep pool and no extra room for kids to splash around. Overall the rooms were nice and staff was very welcoming.

The Kimpton Solamar is a nice hotel in the Gas Lamp district. The check in was super easy. We arrived early and went to lunch, then the front desk called us and said they had our room ready early. Check in is at 4pm but we were able to check in before 1pm. We were on the 6th floor and had a room with a king sized bed. The ac system worked great and we were always comfortable. There was a small safe in the closet but we did not use it. We also had a refrigerator and there were drinks and snacks available in the room for sale. The only minor complaint I had was the bathroom. There wasn't a soap dish on the sink so the soap would stick to the top of the sink. The towel rack was in the shower so you had to cautious about getting the towel wet when showering. The shower had great water pressure but it had to be turned off with a lot of torque to keep it from leaking. It felt as if the handle would break to stop the flow. I reported that to the front desk and they said they would address it. I don't think they did the 4 days we were there. The faucet is going to break if they don't fix it. Sounds like a lot but it was minor. We had a good stay.

This is a place which receives 99% recommendation for a good reason. Spacious rooms with picturesque views. Well kept grounds. Responsive service and concierges to help you plan your trip. We arrived on Dec 25, and stayed for six nights. Purchased through American Airlines, we received a reasonable deal that included airfare, hotel and car. We were reminded that this was an upscale hotel based on the prices in their restaurants and for amenities. With that in mind, we spent most time outside of the hotel at neighborhood restaurants. The Christmas buffet was expensive and NOT worth the price.

I've stayed in a few Kimpton hotels however this is by far my favorite. Was visiting with a veterans organization fellowship program orientation for the weekend. The hotel was so hospitable. Our meals were served by the pool, which was super awesome. There was a bar and some cabanas and had a decent view of the Gaslight area. The rooms were clean, stocked mini bar and comfy beds. I did find it a little weird that there wasn't a vent in the bathroom though... not a huge issue. Its located in the middle of many bars and resturants and is walking distance to the water. I would definitely recommend to anyone.

Beautiful hotel! They had such easy check in and out. The rooms were spacious and very clean. I do suggest asking for a room with a view, as not all rooms have a good view. Mine unfortunately looked into another room across the way. However their free happy hour get together was so great!

Good hotel in a good location. I always love a Kimpton stay, and this was no exception. Pricey parking though, but had no idea where else to park the rental.

Fairly overpriced hotel in general. A good amount of time and effort has gone into the renovations that, unfortunately, are only skin deep. The shower and other amenities were straight out of Motel 6, including the sink that backed up with light use. Parking is $50. Room service is insanely expensive and looks equally mediocre. All in all a very dull stay. Go with the Palomar if you like Kimpton properties.

Pet friendly hotel. Checked in Saturday afternoon and there was happy hour with beer, wine and mini grilled cheese. The lounge and pool area is nice and relaxing with tons of scenery. I could see the jumbo screen at the stadium across the street from the rooftop. Location is great, with so much to do in the area. Valet parking is $47/ night for guests, was thrilled Abt that but hey it is what it is. I'll def be looking for another deal for this hotel.

Can't beat the location, our room on the 7th floor was noisy on the weekend, the Padre's were in town and the rooftop bar's nearby are busy and have loud music. The service was excellent, take advantage of the wine and beer happy hour. Expensive valet parking. Would stay again.

Nice rooftop bar. Comfortable bed, but not very quiet. The bath is huge, and the jets are nice, but the overfill drain didn't work.

Attended a training conference at Hotel Solamar. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the premises were well kept. The food we had was amongst the best I've had at a conference before, with snacks and refreshments during breaks! The pool side deck has a great view of the city with comfortable lounging space. Hope to attend events here again!

Kimpton has built their reputation on providing excellent service and accepting dogs of all kinds. During our stay, each staff member had a smile on their face as they said hello to us in the hotel. Our rottie German shepherd cross loves it here. We will definitely stay here again.

Booked on Hotels Tonight app. Check in was at 4 which I thought was later than usual. However, when I arrived at 11 am there was a room available and I was able to check in. The rooftop pool/bar/lounge are a very nice addition and a cool place to hang out. The location is in the Gaslamp district which is in the heart of the nightlife. The room was nice and overlooked the pool. The staff was very courteous. There is definitely a younger crowd here but that is what I expected from the area. Only issue I have was with checkout, was disturbed at 8 am and then 9:45 by cleaning person. Checkout is at 11, but I guess on a weekday I should be out early ;).

I stayed here during the summer for a conference and it was OK. The rooms are small and decorated all in brown. My room was on the same level as the pool deck, so I couldn't open the blinds for privacy reasons. The bathroom was mostly clean but not spotless (when I filled the tub, there was some floating black stuff in the water) but the tub was nice. My room had a wet patch and giant yellow fan because of a rain leak, but they were sooo apologetic and gave me a credit to the restaurant downstairs, so I didn't mind although I was being reimbursed anyway so the credit didn't make much difference. A gift card to the restaurant for a future visit would have been nicer. Bed was comfortable.

We had a really nice stay. The pool deck is very nice. The hotel is very convenient to Petco park. Unfortunately the Padres did not win, but that was not required :). Within walking distance of many restaurants and the harbor area. If you borrow one of their bikes, you can also go lots of other places which would be too far to walk. Rooms were clean and the staff was very helpful with any questions I had. I agree with a previous reviewer that parking is too expensive but I also understand that parking is expensive anywhere in that area. So I can't take off any points for that. I have to say we loved it.
