Lovely, slick hotel with excellent staff and good breakfast.

Standard room is indeed small however very well equipped and elegant.

Very clean and well stocked each day.

Carpets need steam cleaning.

Beds very firm (the unfortunate norm in Japan - although why in western brands I don’t understand).

A couple of English movie channels which is more than most hotels in Japan, even though you rightly might expect more from an American franchise hotel.

If you are looking at a larger room or a suite you may find a standard room around the corner at the Four Seasons makes more sense from a price/size perspective as they are very large and exceptionally high quality, however if looking for a good top quality hotel on a more modest, although not cheap, budget this is it and the standard room is the one to choose.

Update March 2020

A big thank you for your understanding in cancelling our May 2020 booking due to this virus. We hope to rebook soon.

Really nice hotel with nicely appointed rooms. A great spa where we had very nice massages. I loved the bar and the lobby of the hotel was really nicely designed. About 10 minutes from the station and right across the way from the Kyoto museum.

They treat you like you are at a resort. Traditional dance performance in the evenings. Next door to a temple. Provided transportation from train station

The afternoon tea was absolutely wonderful! Not only the display was elegant but the food was also tasty and exquisite.
The most impressive item was monaka from 宝泉堂. It left a pleasant aftertaste in my mouth and mind.
Also the environment and service were also delightful.

Nice hotel, but not the top one. Room is quite small 28m vs top hotels usually 40-50 in Japan. But looks new and comfortable. The Japanese restaurant is great. Especially the seats next to the garden! Must try.

Some rooms with no view. Staff ok but not the best I’ve seen in a 5-Star hotel. The neighborhood doesn’t have much around (close to some temples) so Have to take cabs to good restaurants. Sort of out of the touristy area so less convenient, but local and quiet.

The Hyatt in Kyoto is a solid hotel. It provides standard rooms, although I didn’t like the club rooms on ground floor level. While you get a view in the garden, people from the restaurants could get a good look into parts of the room. The restaurants are quite good - I can especially recommend the Japanese restaurant.

The Hyatt Regency Kyoto was pretty impressive. Staff were very helpful and accommodations were fantastic. Location is not bad either, though it's a bit of a hike to the nearest subway station.

The room was nice, with a Japanese-style shower/tub combo room, which is super relaxing after a long day of sightseeing. There was no iron in the room, however, so watch out for that.

They had a nightly geisha show. It's worth seeing!

The bar downstairs is excellent: the artisanship that the bartenders place into making drinks is world-class, and some of the best I've seen anywhere.

The Italian restaurant is quite nice as well - we went two nights in a row! The prix fixe meal was nice, as well as a la carte - you can't go wrong.

The hospitality and room exceeded expectations. Nearby attractions included the National Museum, and with some walking, the kiomizuderra water temple (spelling?). The Hyatt property is not near downtown attractions, but there's a bis stop right in front, and taxis are reasonable and polite. Hotel desk staff speak English, and do their best to ensure a pleasant stay.

There are some reasons for why I rated this hotel at 4 stars. Starting with the location, which is not the best, since the hotel is located in a neighbourhood, where there isn't much to do. We had to take a taxi/bus for everywhere we went and everything we did. The second reason was the commodities, namely the closet space. This was so limited we had to store our clothes and other baggage in our suitcases the entire stay. However, the hotel provides excellent breakfast for added payment, it is kept very clean and the staff are kind. I was also glad to see the hotel has a well-equipped gym.

Great service, lovely room with a huge soaking tub. Located near many historic spots. Only downfall was my room was in a far-off wing with no view.

Service was excellent from the staff. The room was clean and we'll kept for our three night stay. We had no issue. The hotel does seem to cater to business travelers. They also provided Geisha performance each night as a welcome to guests.

It's a nice hotel in a good location, in fact it was the only Western hotel brand I saw (though I'm sure there are more, just not where I was walking). The price is quite high during Sakura season and the room wasn't as nice as some of our other hotels on this trip but it was very comfortable. Food and drink prices in the hotel are insanely expensive as you might expect

We had our Christmas day dinner here and it was great. The dinning area was lovely and all the staff were friendly, helpful and even dressed up. Large range of food and drinks, everything was delicious. We certainly filled everyone's tummy. At the end there was a performance by a geisha girl and we were lucky enough to have photos with her.

One of the best hotels I've ever been to in Japan. Electronic tablet menus to request services and items at any time of the night. Service was amazing, and they even let us check in early during a very busy season.

The Hyatt Regency Kyoto is a very good hotel. It's located within walking distance of the old town which is a popular tourist attraction. The hotel is also walking distance to public transportation that will get you to most of Kyoto's attractions. The rooms at the hotel are a little of the small side but their modern and clean design makes them comfortable. The hotel has three restaurants and a great buffet breakfast in the morning.

I can't emphasize how much I enjoyed my stay here. Elegant, professional hotel staff and accommodations, efficient check in and concierge service, and spacious, chic rooms with a lovely shower room. The 5:30pm champagne welcome and 6:15pm maiko performance were a real treat! The only thing is be prepared for a quiet neighborhood that does not have nightlife - but otherwise, it was the perfect stay!

I had to review this hotel because we have had such a wonderful experience traveling with our 18 month old. When we checked in they had a crib setup for us as promised, but not only that, there was a nice baby product kit in addition to the normally stocked bath items! We decided to try the nice Japanese restaurant and baby was sleeping when we arrived. The staff brought us a wonderful bassinet and blanket so he could sleep comfortably! We couldn’t believe it! He slept through 3 of the courses. At breakfast the staff brought us a baby spoon, fork and bowl for him. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are bringing a small child, they are very accommodating! The room was excellent as well and food was great. The Geisha performance was also wonderful to see. Excellent experience all around.

The wife and I really enjoyed this hotel. We were only spending a couple of nights in Kyoto and found the location and accommodations both perfect for what we wanted to do. If you enjoy walking as we do, you can easily get to some of the major shrines from here on foot. It is also about a 5-7 minute walk to a train station for some of the attractions that are further away. The hotel was also very well maintained, clean and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. Most everyone spoke pretty good English. The rooms were a good size and the bed was western style and large. In the morning we took advantage of their Western style breakfast, which was really delicious and fresh. If we find ourselves in Kyoto again, this will be the place we stay.

Had a great lunch here with some lovely ladies who I had met for the first time. I absolutely enjoyed the accommodations they had to some of us with dietary needs.

Also, the food and wine were great but there was a lot of it! Nonetheless, we ladies walked out happily with our little food babies.

Good location, about a 7-10 minute walk to the train station and across from the Museum and shrines. Very helpful staff, we appreciated the geisha performance and the opportunity to take pictures. Rooms we nice though we found the bed to be a bit too firm for us. Overall a great place to stay

Truly impeccable and understated hotel. Vast amenities and superb service. The rooms are quaint and the bathroom is efficient, yet luxurious. For a city hotel you could not ask for more. The beds are firm but oddly quite comfortable. I tried to use the fitness center at 5:30am because of my jet lag; instead of a "no, it's closed," I got a "would you like me to have it opened for you?". Ahh, service. I truly love this place.

Beautiful hotel located in a prime Kyoto location. The rooms are spacious (for Japan) and have many amenities. The service is impeccable - lots of attention from the staff throughout our stay. On the first night they were serving complimentary champagne and on the second afternoon they were serving ice cream in the lobby. Easy access to subway (7 minutes) and bus stop is right outside the hotel. Lots of temples nearby and the Kyoto National Museum is right across the street.

Rooms are amazing. We actually picked this hotel because it's one of the few in Japan that caters to gluten free. The staff have been fantastic in catering to my dietry needs, they went above and beyond so that I wouldn't miss out on delicious food, no matter what the cuisine.

8

Design and structure of the hotel was great. The room was clean and it was cleaned well every day. I would say the location is the major set back. Though it is across the way from Kyoto's Museum - it was far from everything else. The tour services do not normally pick up from this location. Also, there was no option to also include breakfast with the stay. Thankfully, Kyoto is very walkable and the distance isn't that much of a setback. There is local transportation close by but we didn't use it as we wanted to save money and use our JR Pass.

The Hyatt Regency Kyoto has a very beautiful lobby. As we were checking in, their was a maiko (geisha) in the lobby performing a traditional dance. That was a really nice touch. The staff are very friendly. There was a minor problem with getting us checked in, but the staff resolved it quickly. When we got to our room, room service brought us some complementary Concord grapes (very expensive in Japan). The Italian restaurant in the hotel has good food. I was excited to have a western pizza, as they are hard to find in Japan. We tried both the western breakfast buffet and the Japanese breakfast. Both were excellent, as well as the coffee. Overall, we had a great experience.

The staff are very friendly and happy to assist. This hotel is unique and stunning with a clean and classy modern japanese touch. If you arrive at the JR Kyoto station use the West Exit and look for MK taxi services across the street. They will provide complimentary drop off to registered guest of Hyatt Regency Kyoto upon verification(phone call). Our view from the top floor suite was a panoramic pleasure both sunset and sunrise.

Should be a Park Hyatt. Beautiful hotel, well appointed rooms and fantastic service. Geisha performance every evening. One note. If you are on the taller side (and this goes for a lot of places in Japan, but especially here) watch your head. I'm 6'2 and sconces were at face height, exit signs at crown of your head height, etc. I knew what I was in for after my first week in Japan but it doesnt detract from a truly wonderful hotel

The Hotel room compliments the city of Kyoto incredibly. The Hyatt staff is very friendly and warm. Your every need will be met accordingly. It's walking distance from Shrines, Buddhist Temples and restaurants. The in-room dining service is fast and delicious, you can order straight from a tablet. Theirs a 15 minute Geshia performance at 1815 at the lobby.

Pretty great little Hyatt in Kyoto. The hotel looks unimposing and old from the outside, but the lobby and rooms are modern and nice. Staff is amazingly friendly and there seems to be a geisha wandering around the hotel in the evenings, which was great for tourists like us. The only downside for our trip was that we had a B1/garden level room, which looked directly outside, and felt not very private. The walls also seemed a little thin, we could hear the goings-on of the room next door. Not a deal breaker since our neighbors weren't loud, but could easily see that becoming an issue quickly. Overall would definitely recommend though, especially for western tourists visiting Kyoto.

The Hyatt Regency in Kyoto is a beautiful hotel. Although it's location seems a bit out of the way of our sight seeing destinations, the hotel itself is very impressive with great amenities. Our room is huge, with two small bathrooms. The hotel staff has been extremely helpful so far. Everything is spotless and pristine.
