It's a nice enough hotel and the location is excellent if you are visiting SMU. Here is where I feel the two star deduction is warranted... For the price of this hotel, I expect nearly flawless luxury. Let's be honest and admit that neary $300/night is an expensive room so your expectations should be high. The door between the room and the bathroom is a hollow closet-type folding door. It didn't close correctly, felt and looked cheap, and basically didn't belong there. The shower had a good amount of mildew on most of the grout and the floor of the shower had been repaired poorly making it look that much more like we were being overcharged for the room. Whatever system they use for television is the slowest and most frustrating I've seen in a long time. There are no views or other redeeming factors to make this worth the cost. Even the dining option (singular) was pricey and not worth your time or money. So, overall, I recommend you stay elsewhere unless you simply MUST be a short walk to campus. I was disappointed as we'll be frequenting the area so now we need to find an alternative. On a good note, The staff was very nice.

Great boutique hotel. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. The pool was a highlight, loved the chaise lounges in the pool. Highly recommend this as your Dallas home away from home.

This a great hotel. They only been open for 4 years, but they stay true to the Kimpton brand with beautiful rooms and impeccable service. My wife and I stayed here for our first anniversary and were very pleased. We were surprised to find the staff had also dropped of a bottle of prosecco in our room while we were at dinner with a nice handwritten note by the management. We would absolutely stay here again.

Fantastic bartender! I was very impressed with the service. We arrived 10 min before closing on a Thursday night to have a cocktail... were informed that they were about to close. Nevertheless, were provided great service while they closed out. Nice wine list, beautiful open contemporary environment with a nice patio. I will return.

Really an excellent hotel, great value for money, and fantastic food. The service went above and beyond when I e-mailed them and let them know I left my charger behind. I arranged a pick up, the on-duty manager Dan Macey was exceptional. Highly recommended.

Looks nice but everything else about this place is mediocre. I've been here too many times because of its proximity to work but the service is always painfully slow, even when the place is empty. The food is average for the price point and it is valet only.

Service was mixed. The front desk was helpful but the restaurant service was particularly slow (may just been a bad day of staffing). The room was fine, though the bathroom layout was a bit cramped. The cleaning felt a bit odd as we returned to find the lights and even the TV on at one point.

Located right by SMU campus on Hillcrest. Unfortunately there's no public parking available and the only car option is to valet. You can arrive and depart as many times as you want with the car but it's still a per night $25 fee. The receptionists were always so friendly and kind which is a testament to that Southern hospitality and always readily available. My favorite part of the room was how soft and comfortable the bed was. Truly an amazing sleep for the night. I didn't get to try the restaurant, and unfortunately the hotel does not offer complimentary breakfast but the coffee offered in the mornings was actually pretty good quality. With Snider plaza and other Hillcrest restaurants nearby, this is a great stay for anyone who has any business with SMU or in the park cities area. There is also a discount for those associated with SMU I believe so check that out!

This hotel is beautiful and the staff made you feel very welcome. The only downsides were that the valet parking is actually $25 per day instead of what is advertised as $22 online and the bed was just okay not as comfy as I would expect for the price tag of the room.

I am surprised this is a 3 star hotel. Should be at least 4 stars. Great boutique style, updated rooms. Love that they have a jam box in it that we could bring down to the cabana style pool. We also loved that we could bring our dog. The rooftop at night was pretty. Couldn't see skyline or too much of Dallas like people mentioned but there's it is beautiful seating and peaceful up there.

If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can check it out on HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around... Driving in I was expecting the typical tall building on a small lot, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a small two story structure nestled among other similar health and wellness buildings in the middle of a perfectly manicured park that covers several acres. The property is fenced / gated in a slightly clinical institutional way, but once your on the property that fence locks out the urban noise and stress. It felt a lot more like the countryside of the Berkshires and not the middle of Dallas 2 miles from the Galleria. The building is older with historic charm peeking out around every corner, but it has been well maintained and updated. The welcome packet in our room consisted of a small bag of pills. At first I thought it was Viagra and Zoloft to help melt away the years and help us both see the big "o", but it turned out to be vitamins. Very nice but not THAT helpful. The corner two room suite was wonderful with high quality furniture and bedding. With a TV in both rooms and a door between them allowed the work-a-holic to pound away on the laptop without disturbing the other. The free breakfast was also great, except the syrup was sugar free. Call me crazy, but even though I am on a diet I still like my syrup really sweet. The outdoor pool was open and properly heated, the spa facilities and restaurant are both 5 - star. The parking lot was full of Texas tags (except mine) so the locals obviously justify the time here for the services alone.

My husband had a business trip to Dallas, so I decided to grab our 2 small children and tag along. This isn't exactly a hotel for kids, but everyone was very sweet to them and made them feel welcome. The rooms were beautiful and modern. We picked the hotel for its proximity to the Park Cities and convenience to where.

We were in town for the Black Sabbath show. I had never heard of this hotel but it was close to the venue and I heard it was haunted. Couldn't beat that for a Black Sabbath show. The hotel was very nice and well kept and well run. The place was full of Sabbath fans and they seemed a bit out of place in such a nice hotel, but the staff were just as friendly and helpful to them just as they would be to anyone who might normally stay there. Fantastic staff all the way around!! Our room was a nice size and very clean. I really liked the way the modern styling of the room contrasted with the old style of the hotel. Just perfect for me. They were remodeling the French Room when we were there but you would have never noticed it unless you wanted to eat there. Great bar, had a really good old fashioned as I listened to the legend of the bride that haunted the halls being told by the bartender. Great guy.

“Surpassed Expectations...lovely stay in Dallas” Totally loved the Lumen. The staff at the front desk were so friendly and helpful from the minute we checked in to the time we checked out. The lady on front desk (Jazzelyn?) even went out of her way to help us try to get tickets to tour AT&T stadium, even letting me use her own mobile phone to call. She was so helpful and really left a great impression of the Texan hospitality. We enjoyed the wine reception on our first night, and the kids loved the Cocoa station. Hotel is just across from SMU campus which is a beautiful place to walk. We visited the George W Bush Presidential Library which was a 15 min walk from the hotel through the SMU campus. Hotel is a short walk to nearby Snider plaza for restaurants, and there is a seven eleven very close by if you want to grab a quick snack for breakfast. Probably our one negative would be cost of valet parking....$22 plus tax. Other than that, would totally recomend this hotel for any stay in Dallas. Stayed December 2016, traveled with family

Welcoming from the valet to the cleaning service. The location is ideal if visiting SMU. Love having the wine hour during the weekday afternoon and the on-site restaurant has an amazing breakfast. Love the boutique size of this hotel. By the time we left, they knew by name and car on before even handing them the key tag. Very personal...

Close to smu, super nice staff. They offer complimentary wine from 5 to 6 and complimentary coffee in the morning. They don't have a real business center and that's a bummer. Printing and internet are expensive. For free internet you have to sign up for karma rewards which is always annoying.

We stayed at this hotel for the first time over this past weekend. We chose this hotel because the pictures online made it look hip and cool and the hotel was in the general area in which we were staying. Let me just say that I was more than pleased with our choice. We were greeted upon arrival by the Valet, who was pleasant. Check in happened without a hitch, no issues, the front desk personnel were helpful, thorough and efficient. Then up to the room... it had a well stocked kitchen area with snacks, liquor, mixers, juices, etc. The sitting area was clean and well maintained. The bedroom/bath was clean, spacious and well maintained as well. The balcony had a comfy couch. It was too cold to go swimming, but we walked the pool area for future trips (as we had already decided we would be back). The pool area was great. It had a nice pool, great cabana areas and additional seating as well. They had bikes you can borrow in the front if you wanted to check out the neighborhood. These were complimentary. From there we went to the Front Room, which is the restaurant/bar located in the hotel. We had a few drinks and an appetizer. Great drinks, great service, great appetizer, great ambiance. Later in the evening, we contacted the Front Room for room service. The roasted chicken was fabulous. Overall this was a great hotel for our weekend away from the kids and I would highly recommend it.

Arrived on a Thursday on a high note, was given a free Texas craft beer. The clerk at the front desk got halfway through checking me in and decided to answer the phone, leaving me sitting for several minutes. Another clerk finally realized and finished the job. To get to the room I walked down a drab crooked hallway to what looked like a service elevator, but I was in the right place. The room was clean and well laid out. The hotel is quiet, it's on a relatively busy street but I didn't hear any objectionable street noise. Shower controls are confusing enough that they put a hang tag on the shower door. Even with instructions, it takes a while for hot water to arrive and in the meantime you've no doubt tried adjusting the controls thinking you did it wrong. The minibar has a really annoying bright light which you will notice once you're ready to sleep. There is no switch on the outside that I could find. I didn't receive a minibar key so I couldn't search for an inside switch, which the clerk assured me exists somewhere near the light. For breakfast the next day, I went down and got a small coffee and muffin. Not a good value at $8.66, but there is very little else nearby. I should have waited until I got to the airport, the same thing there is half the price. Room prices are also a bit on the high side for the value, but again there isn't much competition in the area. SMU is across the street so it's really convenient if you're headed there.

Fantastic hotel and restaurant service. I met one guest who has lived in the hotel for several months and another who had 90 stays in 2014. They raved about their experience. I received hugs from the front desk on the way out. I will return!
