Property's Green Action

Lighter, brighter holidays shouldn’t cost the Earth. And with the help of our guests, they don’t have to. At LUX*, we recognise that we have a duty of stewardship over the places we operate and the planet we inhabit, and we strive to achieve complete carbon neutrality in every LUX* resort and hotel. We ask every guest to give €1 a day to offset 100% of the carbon emitted during their stay. It’s a small price to pay, but it has an enormous impact.

Of the money raised, a third goes to carefully vetted offsetting projects in the regions where we operate. The rest is invested into pioneering measures and initiatives that lighten our footprint and improve our energy efficiency. So far, it’s enabled us to bottle our own water on site; to use chemical-free, eco-friendly cleaning agents in housekeeping; to improve our waste management and recycling of everything from water (which irrigates our gardens) to kitchen oil (which is turned into biofuel), and to begin introducing low-energy plasma and LED lighting in every resort.

Rather than wasting paper, we’ve created the tablet-based booking system LUX* Valet to communicate products and services to our guests and, thanks to a motion-sensitive energy-management system, we’ve cut down on wasted energy when rooms are vacant, too.

There’s still more to be done of course, and we will continue to introduce new green technologies and eco initiatives over the coming years. Thanks to our guests, our tread gets lighter every day.

Certifications

Travelife

Travelife is an international sustainability certification scheme for hotels that help hotels to improve how they manage their environmental and social impacts, such as:

• Reducing energy and water consumption
• Support local people, businesses and culture
• Human rights, child protection and employee welfare

Green Globe

Green Globe’s International Standard for Sustainable Tourism is a certification scheme that requires hotels to report on their sustainability performance throughout their supply chains. It traces its roots back to the United Nations Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992, where 182 Heads of State endorsed the Agenda 21 principles of Sustainable Development. The standards are a collection of over 330 compliance indicators that are applied to 41 individual sustainability criteria - these can be divided into four themes:

• Sustainable Management
• Social/Economic
• Cultural Heritage
• Environmental

Clients can calculate their CO2e footprint, the financial cost of that CO2e, and track their performance of energy and water consumption and non-recyclable waste production. The certification is only awarded to members that have a compliance rating of at least 51%. The award can then only be maintained if members continually improve by 3% every year.

Whilst reasonable but comparing with Lux elsewhere a bit wanting in service
And had some maintenance issues . Otherwise not bad however not value for money. The facilities are however there with good mature gardens. The rooms were a concern with some cleanliness issues. Bathrooms were relatively small.

For a 5 star resort this has a number of concerns that in my mind make it fall short. I've given 3 stars based on comparing the hotel to other 5 star resorts. Obviously this is better than your average hotel.
This place needs some serious touching up in decor. Paint peeling everywhere, knocks and scrapes, broken elements and pictures etc. They were renovating whilst I was there but to have let it get in that state in the first place suggests a lack of pride and care in the overall estate. This lack of care was also evident in the loan of the snorkelling equipment (loads of flippers but few masks and they are generally v poor condition) . The drink/food arrangement is really strange too. Free drinks (fizz) at breakfast but you pay for water at dinner? I would expect water to be free in a 5 star resort not just 1 bottle per day. The restaurants for lunch are v expensive for what they are - get much better at the local restaurants and better value.
The hotels main claim is being the only 5 star resort on the lagoon. It's a pretty lagoon but the current is that strong, with a beach that is covered in debris coral which make it not a great site to use so this feature is a bit redundant. They have a large pool (claim its the biggest) but not heated and not enough loungers in comparison to the pool. Personally most of the appeal on the reunion island is in the day activities/trips and i would recommend a cheaper hotel and spend your money on going to the local restaurants, eat creole food and go on trips. On the plus side, the staff were lovely and very helpful, the problems seem more owership than staffing. As I say, a very good resort which it should be for a 5 star resort, and compares favourably against general hotels but falls short when compared to other 5 star resorts. Quite how it got the stars in the first instance is a little confusing.
The reunion island is fab, well worth visiting but think better options can be found for accommodation.

5 star Hotel, attentive staff and good food and friendly service. The beach is very clean and the water is warm and clear enough for marine fish to live in.

Every day this place positively surprises. A private beach and a separate children's pool, service along with friendly management and a large selection of delicacies from around the world combined with a selection of wines make this hotel unforgettable.

Hotel was OK but the Island of Reunion was very expensive and no convenient transport to get around on. If you have been to Mauritius you will be very disappointed with Reunion.

Top hotel. Modern, clean, friendly and resourceful staff. Good breakfast. The lagoon has fish and coral and you can reach it from the beach without a boat, so it's very easy to snorkel. 10/10 would recommend.

You can't fault the staff, they are friendly and treat you extremely well. The food was absolutely beautiful and tasty.

My only criticism was that we weren't informed the swimming pool would be closed for our whole entire stay, this was a disappointment also considering we weren't allowed in the sea due to sharks.

We played plenty of tennis, ran on the beach, and enjoyed some dancers in La Plage restaurant

Chambres agréables. Beau et grand jardin autour des chambres et lieux communs. Belle piscine (non chauffée), mais il manque quelques transats quand il y a du monde. L'hôtel a les pieds dans le lagon.

Friendly staff who are always there to help. The resort us ideally situated on the west of the island so you get great sunsets and a bit more sun than the south and east. Very large pool, a lovely lagoon and great food.
