Green Key Eco-Rating Program 4

With more than 1,200 hotels certified in Canada since its inception in the 1990s, the Green Key Eco-Rating Program awards hotels an environmental rating of one to five Green Keys. Green Key members are then given guidance on how to "unlock" opportunities to reduce operating costs and environmental impacts - and in turn earn more keys.

The Green Key audit looks at nine major areas of sustainable hotel operations:
• Energy conservation
• Water conservation
• Solid waste management
• Hazardous waste management
• Indoor air quality
• Community outreach
• Building infrastructure
• Land use

Lovely hotel in a nice area. Staff is fantastic! Rooms are comfortable. They even provide you animal print robes! Not the cheapest, but they make it worth the extra cost.

Pros: staff is friendly. Room is spacious. Bed is comfortable. Cons: Valet parking is $50 for one night! I wouldn't have a problem with this as I know it's DC. However, the Kimpton Palmora around the corner is free overnight. They also charge a random amenities fee.

The details are a little misleading. It is within about a 4 mile walk to the national mall. The area seems very safe so that's a plus. Needs updating. For the price you pay there should be more amenities. The staff was very friendly and were prompt at sending requests to the room.

My stay has been pleasant. The front staff and housekeeping service did a really good job. It is a smaller hotel with very little in-room amenities that would be helpful with small kids. I would recommend this for a couple or a single person. The location is great and is near great restaurants.

The Madera is very convenient to the Dupont Circle Metro, lots of good restaurants nearby. Our room was large and elegant, with a balcony, the bathroom was a bit small. Service was great.

None of the rooms have a fridge or microwave. The bathroom is SUPER TINY, as in if someone was obese I think they'd have to get in the tub to open up the door after using the toilet because when you open the door it's so close to the toilet. They claim on the site the rooms are soundproof, but when you're walking through the hall you can hear people talking and watching TV, which of course means others can hear you. It's not a bad place, the bed is comfortable, there's an ironing board and closet, and you can get access to a fitness center at another Kimpton that's a five minute walk away. Parking is $50 a night with in and out privileges (half priced for hybrids). I'd recommend this hotel to someone who just needs a place and doesn't care for amenities, but if you're looking for anything extra like a pool, coffee maker in your room, a larger bathroom, etc. Then I suggest considering other hotels.

Very nice place to stay. We got a great deal on this place and we would love to stay here again. They had robes in the room and it was a very large room. It was so fancy they had the shampoo, conditioner and soap in big bottles on the wall. Lol it was very nice to walk into a modern room and feel like it was a clean.

Stayed in one of the rooms with balcony facing the street. The room was very large. There was a king sized bed and a sofa bed. We slept well, did not use the sofa bed, so don't know how confortable it was. Decor is nice. The TV reception was so-so, some channels did not work, but it was ok we did not spend too much time in the room. The only minus is the bathroom, which was small. The tub and toilet was inside and the sink located outside the bathroom. Location was good, not too far from national Mall where we spent most of our visit. The hotel is about a block away from the metro and to many dining choices. We had dinner one night at Firefly, great food and dessert!

Nice place. Clean rooms and good staff. However, do not come here if you are allergic to feathers due to the feather beds. (found that out the hard way)🤔

Hotel was super decent. I had a suite and it came with a massaging chair which was dope. Flat screen was small and so was the bathroom. Biggest turn off. Bathroom was like a closet with a toilet and a shower. Other than that, experience was great.

I recently stayed at the Kimpton madera for a quick weekend to DC. It's conveniently located near the metro and bus routes. Check in was quick and the attendant, Ahmad, was friendly and helpful. My room was spacious and clean, with a comfy bed. The bathroom is kind of small, but serviceable. My only complaint was that the curtains were transparent so I couldn't sleep in the next morning. I also ate at the Firefly which was very tasty. I would stay here again if I come back to DC.

An oasis in the heart of DC. It a quiet and elegant small hotel in Dupont circle. Great dinning options are a short walk away, plus the reasturant (The Firefly) is excellent.

AMENDED REVIEW: After attempting another method of contact, Kimpton has resolved the issue. At this point I have adjusted my review to 3 stars due to the helpful fellow, Cortez. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I was hoping to be able to stay at the Kimpton Madera. Upon finalizing the reservation and additional $52 was added to the reservation for a 2 night stay. This was not clearly disclosed prior to the reservation. After staying on hold for an hour trying to talk to someone, and after chatting with an online "helper", "Marisa", I was told there was nothing they could do. A 25% service fee on top of the room rate is ridiculous. This deceitful practice should be banned, and I am sorry to say I do not trust Kimpton at this point. Unfortunate since the hotel looks nice and we have stayed at other Kimptons and had positive experiences.

Stayed here for a long weekend to get out of NYC and it was just what my company and I needed. Great service from the employees from the valet to any other staff I interacted with. I must highlight one of the managers for her exceptional customer service, Tessa! If I'm ever in DC I'll probably stay here again or at one of their sister locations nearby. Because of the great stay in DC, I already booked my birthday suite with them in June at the Kimpton Muse in NYC.

Nice hotel, close to night life places. They host a free happy hour and is a great way to start your evening! A little far from the tourist attractions, but not so far that is not doable, either walking or lyft!

5

The location was perfect for my meetings. However, the building is an old converted apartment building with very little in the way of design or amenity. The rooms were adequate bit a little cramped. The shower gel, shampoo and conditioner is affixed to the shower wall, which annoys me and seems a bit unsanitary. However, the price was right.

It's clean and comfortable! Good location! The toilet/shower is kind of small. There's a bit of noise from the elevator.

8

Very helpful staff, clean, and at a great location. If you stay on a weekend and are a light sleeper, you may want to ask for a room that is not facing the back. One of the houses there had large parties both nights, with about 50 people (college students?) in the back yard drinking and screaming until the early morning hours.

Difficult to pull in for valet parking. No doorman or valet to greet you upon arrival. Comfortable bed, good location. Small bathroom and the toilet made a loud noise periodically. Could smell weed through the a/c vent from another room. Other guests seemed startled that they we're sharing a hotel with our dogs.

It wasn't as good as it looked in the photos. But, the free food was great! But there was little space, and you could here the room right next to yours very clearly. But the food was very good. I didn't get the chance to go to the pool, but, I would think that the water would be as think as the walls.

Stayed one night. Was only at the hotel long enough to shower when I arrived, then sleep after a day out. It was great for that. Well-appointed room with a comfortable bed. Hot shower with good water pressure. Fast (~20 Mbps down) wifi. Centrally located near Dupont Circle and reasonably priced.

Very nice hotel. Me and my whole family visited Washington DC and had 2 rooms in this hotel. The rooms were clean, service was good. Be careful if you arrive with a car: Parking is all over Washington DC very very expensive and so it is in the Kimpton hotel (but I can fully understand that). Recommendation!

Hotel is ideal if you want to be in dupont square. Rooms are very spacious and the couches are pull out beds. We never needed service so I can say much there. What I can say is they have the very best bathrooms

The front desk at Kimpton Hotel was exceptional helpful with advice on 4th of July. The room was comfortable & clean. The only discomfort was the air conditioner did not go to 68 degrees like I like it when i sleep. The room would not stay cool at night for a good deep sleep.

Really wonderful and accommodating hotel. Great price and great deals available, good location, clean and impressive rooms, fully stocked, and especially great service. They will go out of their way without question to get you what you need. I really appreciate the friendly staff and the hotel itself.

Comfortable and clean rooms with their own unique style. Excellent service. Close enough to walk to various different tourists sites. Also, great for business. A solid desk and comfortable chairs. Good lighting, fast WIFI, and plenty of plugs. The not much of a view if that is what you're looking for.

I went with a good friend to the restaraunt Firefly on the first floor. It had a great cozy atmosphere and the happy hour prices were reasonable, even for the cocktails. I can see myself coming here again, especially to try the food.

We checked in as a second hotel in DC, Walked into the best smile and warmest welcome. And, an upgrade to a King Deluxe with Balcony. The room was HUGE and CLEAN❣️ and pretty. Staff could not be friendlier and sweeter thru the whole stay. Thank you all. Do have 2 suggestions to the management - update the bathroom with better tiles and grouting job; and please get rid of the popcorn ceiling. Love Kimpton hotels❣️

I got some kind of bug bites on my legs from staying in this hotel. I also had an allergic reaction to something either in the sheets or towels or what they used to clean the linens, and I normally don't have allergies.

The Hotel is very nice with kind staff. There are very spacious rooms (with the exception of the bathroom, it is a bit cramped) and very inexpensive for the location of the hotel and the value you are getting. Housekeeping is very good. We are a rewards club member so we got a $10 minibar credit, $30 in room massage credit (which we didn't use), and free wifi (didn't have to pay $21 a night for that/phone service). The hotel also comes with free coffee in the mornings and free wine and appetizers for an hour in the evening. They have a business center and a gym but the gym is at their other hotel a few blocks away. There is also a restaurant downstairs which many people say is good but I personally didn't try due to how expensive it was. They also provide the room service to the hotel which is a bit overpriced as well. One thing which is fantastic is their pet policy. The Kimpton chain is very pet-friendly, allowing pretty much any pet that fits through the door. We brought both of our cats and they were welcomed with open arms. It was no extra charge to bring our pets which was very nice, and there are pet bowls in the room for use. Valet parking is $48 per night which is a bit steep, but standard in Washington DC. You are about 3-4 blocks from the DuPont Circle MetroRail which is a pretty effective way to get around D.C. Without the stress of driving through the city. I believe the metro buses stop in front of the hotel, too. Overall, this hotel is a great value for your dollar and would totally recommend staying here in D.C. To anyone planning to do so.

The remodel in this hotel wasn't the best. The laminate shell they installed in the bath tub wasn't thoroughly glued down and the bathroom was pretty cramped considering the rest of the room was fairly large they definitely could have bumped the wall out. The room also had a light wet ashtray smell.

I love the location. It's far enough from the bustling downtown but only a quick 20 min walk away. It's near the circle so I can grab a coffee at Starbucks and pick up something quick to eat. I didn't like how they didn't bother changing the comforter from our overnight stay. Our daughter spilled a drink on the side of the comforter and they just threw on a new flat sheet on top and turned the comforter around and tucked it. :( but we did get fresh towels. The room is huge compared to other hotels we have stayed at. I love the layout with the closet hallway into the bathroom.

The service from the front desk is a bit spotty at best. Several phone calls for the valet tend to become a nuisance for me and my family. They are welcoming and accommodating when they are attentive to the needs, but you can tell they are a bit scattered from a managerial perspective. The room was decent, the executive suite with the bunk beds is a plus, but again falls short on amenities. An Xbox one for the kids but no Internet access? I understand the need to get away but in their down time, I'd like for the service to work appropriately. The bathrooms are a little wonky. It's uncomfortable to use with the door directly in front of the toilet. You need to close before you sit. The remotes for the TV function when you press those buttons hard. The cooling system is set at a standard 65° with no wiggle room to make it colder at night. Spending half the night out of the covers to cool down is cumbersome. The beds are clean and well kept, and I love the location. It just needs some fine tuning in a few areas to really knock the service out of the park. #706

Love Kimpton Hotels. The staff and the manager himself have been completely outstanding. Had issues with the air conconditioning in our room granted it was a 100 degrees outside. They moved us to a new room and gave us vouchers for drinks at Firefly.

Great location, about a block away from DuPont circle. Very clean rooms, nice view, great style, and lots of basic perks (free wifi, 10$ bar credit, free glass of wine from 5-7, easy parking service for a reasonable price). Great hospitality as well. We'll definitely be back.

If you're trying to find a really great deal on this amazing hotel I'd highly suggest booking it through HotelRaven. Com They have great deals for it on there! Such a perfect place don't have enough great things to say! The staff at the hotel is first rate. Everyone is accommodating and friendly. You can find really good rates if you use your smartphone to book your reservation. The hotel is in a great location. Uber rides to the lawn cost around $10 while we were herw. There are only a few places on our floor where we could not hear the elevator noise. If you are a light sleeper make sure to ask for a quiet room.

I love this place. Fabulous location. The staff is great. The beds are comfortable. The rooms are spacious. The bathrooms are comically small, but considering the size of most hotel rooms in the area it is a great trade. Umbrellas, yoga mats and robes all provided for use during your stay. I'm in DC once a month for work and i stay here when i can (unfortunately my company makes me stay at a different hotel but i always pray they're booked so i can stay here.) Kimpton is awesome in general with a minibar credit, wine hour in the evening and free coffee in the morning. Madera is better than Paloma a few blocks away... Just saying.

This hotel is amazing. Although we live 30 mins away we wanted to stay in DC for my birthday. When we arrived they were serving wine in the lobby area. The lobby has a very modern atmosphere. The staff was very friendly. The room was amazing with the balcony. They even left left us a cupcake with happy birthday on it and a bottle of wine. I would give this hotel 5 stars but apparently there would be no water from 9pm to 5am during our stay. Luckily we don't like far and only stayed for one night. Furthermore, this hotel is a gem.

Best hotel I have ever stayed at - the staff were above and beyond delightful, helpful, kind, personable, and professional. The hotel is beautifully appointed, spacious rooms, and the Firefly restaurant next door - just stop it. So good it's crazy. Staff was very very nice and helpful. Rooms were nicely decorated but there are some signs of age like poorly repaired water damage areas. Bathroom in our room was sectioned into 2 rooms. The bath / shower room was pretty small but that didn't bother me. One day they forgot to clean our room and we had to call and wait for it to get done.
