We paid luxury prices for certainly non-luxury conditions. This hotel has a smell, the staff is not interested in providing even a basic level of service, and in spite of the $25 daily fee, there are no real amenities to speak of. Where ordinary hotels at this price point or administering these fees have things such as fitness centers, 24-7 room-service, bars, or even lobbies for gathering, I can tell you this hotel has none of these.
We selected this hotel for our family's fall break experience in DC. We had intended to walk to most places, but with younger children, that simply is not possible from this distance from the Mall. In addition, we were excited to have a single room with bunk beds for our children. The bunk beds were alike those you would purchase at Target, and they were stuffed in a recessed area within the room.
We will definitely not stay in this hotel again, and I would recommend anyone seek other options.

Stayed for 4 nights recently. The hotel is close to so many things! Two Metro Stations, restaurants and sightseeing. Loved the nightly wine hour (free). The rooms were clean and the hotel quiet. Slept great. We will return.

What can't I say about this place? The elevators and hallways smelled. The rooms smelled. The mattresses were discolored. The whole place just seemed dirty. There also weren't fitted sheets on the bed so after a night of sleeping you figured out you were directly on the mattress. It was genuinely weird. Also, they will charge a "convenience and amenities fee" per night which I think is BS as there aren't any amenities. If there is a gym, it's the stairway to your room. Good area though.

The price is right, the location can’t be beat, the rooms are clean, and the free wine at happy hour and other amenities are nice. Overall, though, I’ve had better experiences at other Kimpton hotels. Our bathroom in the Queen room is ridiculously tiny and the lobby is a hallway. If you want a clean comfortable place to crash, this is better than a pod. If you’re expecting a bit more, even Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express more, this probably isn’t the best option.

We've stayed twice at the Madera and loved both times! Staff was beyond friendly and helpful, house keeping was prompt and did a great job cleaning our room and it's pet friendly with water and treat by the door for your fur baby! Not to mention the wine in the afternoon and water 24/7 in the lobby for those hot DC days!..loved our stay both times and would totally stay again.
