We at at the restaurant Raven. It was OK. My wife is vegan, but we've had better vegan food elsewhere. It seems like this restaurant wants to have a very high end place, and charges around 18 to 22 bucks a meal. For vegan stuff, 85% veggies. Veggies grown on site, mind you, at least they claim. I had curry and the breakfast crepe, both were good but not $20 good. My $8 orange juice was TINY. I'm all for nice quality food but man... This felt a little overkill. I'd recommend trying this place if you have the money, but it shouldn't be anyone's main stop.

The Stanford Inn is a must when visiting Mendocino. You will love every minute of the comfortable and luxurious accommodations. The rooms are filled with amenities. The Stanfords' are caring and diligent innkeepers. You can feel really good about staying here and it will exceed all your expectations. And the vegan restaurant is beyond the best! Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

It was the night of my 42nd birthday, and we were making our much anticipated journey to stay at the Stanford Inn. We were miles outside of Willits, yet even further from the coastline. Highway 20 was dark, winding, and quiet...UNTIL that moment a brave little dog ran out in front of our car. What the heck? There wasn't even a remote sign of a developed housing area in sight! Like any decent humans would do, we pulled over to try to get the little guy out of the road. My girlfriend didn't even shut the car door, as she leaped out to save him. Instead of running back toward the road, the small survivor jumped into the car, like it was his own, and directly onto my lap. "Now what?", I asked. Kiah smiled at me, and told me that his name is "Birthday" and he was apparently going to take a ride with us. We would try to resolve this situation as best as we could, even if it took all night. By his smell, we had no clue of how long he had even been wandering through the woods, but we pushed on through the night toward our destination.
Kiah, Birthday, and I arrived at the Stanford Inn to check ourselves in. We knew that the eco-resort was pet friendly, but didn't realize just how pet friendly (given this unique situation). I spoke with Courtney at the front desk, and gave her a brief rundown of the scenario. Within moments, we had a leash, food, treats, and blankets for our new friend. Wow! She then proceeded to follow me outside to shoot a couple of quick photos to post on the Mendocino area lost dog facebook page. We retreated to our new room for the night, and gave our boy a savory plant-based dog food meal. Immediately after dinner, we put Birthday into the bathtub to take care of some much needed grooming. If he was going to spend the night in this beautiful place, he needed to clean up a bit! Halfway through the washing/blow-drying process, the phone rang. It was Courtney again, and the front desk staff informing us that they had found Birthday's family. His name was Samson, and they were making their way over to pick him up. We got our new friend dry by the time that the front desk staff came to retrieve him from us.
The door shut, and we cried.
This little sentient being showed us lots of things. Amongst these, we were reassured how nice people can be in times of need, and how perseverance pays off. These unexpected circumstances can teach you things you might not have known about yourself or others. Birthday also taught us that we may need a dog soon, no matter what our cat says!
While you can read hundreds of other reviews about this place online (and I dare you to try and find a bad one), I wanted to share this story because the Stanford Inn went way above and beyond any expectations we could have had. The staff were outstanding, the amenities were extravagant, the views were to die for, and the food at the Ravens Restaurant...OMG, the food! We even bought the cookbook, and I am going to attempt to make some of these offerings at home. Let's just say that if I get them taste half as good, they will still be amazing!! Upon check out, we had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners of the inn, Joan Stanford. She took time out of her busy schedule to speak with us for a while, and signed our books that we purchased from the gift shop. Incredible. We are already planning our next trip back...and we will be back! Thanks for everything!!

Great clean place, beautiful rooms and grounds, dog friendly, and a wonderful vegan restaurant with free breakfast included on the room rate. Don't forget to rent an outrigger canoe - most fun I've ever had in a canoe (and the dogs are welcome to join you!). Would definitely stay here again.

Gold star resort. Doesn't get better! Restaurant is vegan only, but if you're a carnivore, you really won't miss the meat. Food is excellent either way

We had tea and (after wandering the grounds) dinner at their cafe with our rescue pup. They were tolerant of him being grumpy and the food was fabulous.

We didn't stay at the hotel but they have Wi-Fi and a lovely garden.

Really nice place. The staff is beyond friendly. The whole property is breathe taking. We had forgotten a bag. We called and they had it set aside. They have a shipping company who handles it. 15 bucks and our bag was at our doorstep 2 days later. Such a great experience. Highly Recommended.

My stay here was everything I hoped for and more. The grounds are breathtakingly beautiful, staff professional and polite. I had an excellent massage from Robin. Met with Sid for nutrition coaching, excellent information provided in a fun format. The fireplace was so easy to use and so relaxing. I could go on and on. The fact that this is a vegan place makes this my new favorite resort. It does not seem like a vegan place, just an awesome place. Oh and yoga was incredible, I learned a lot and felt great after class. We will be back.

We stayed here a few months back since my wife and I have been going working so often. The food is strictly vegan which might be a downside for some, but for us it was a blessing. To start off we had a beautiful view of the ocean, of course it cost just a tad extra to get a room on the second floor but it was nothing out of the ordinary and it was well worth it. We had stayed during a part of the slow season so the staff seemed at ease and were very helpful all together. Then again we were hardly needy at all which may be the result of some of the other reviews. We were surprised that we were able to bring our dogs and even eat with them in the restaurant! The property is gorgeous and we had a wonderful time, if you're looking for a wonderful experience this is the place.

My family and I are enjoying our stay. We have 4 rooms and each of our rooms are very comfortable and clean. While entering our room we go in through a main door which only our key card works on and then upon entering there is a small entry room then 2 more doors which are our rooms and each of these also need room keys to enter. The rooms are spacious and well cared for. The other 2 rooms my family have are the same way next door. The grounds are lovely for taking walks, the flowers and landscaping are beautiful. Kids have a yard to play in out our back door. We have our rooms all in one section and our back porch goes all the way through to one another's section there are gates but we have them all open. We sip tea/coffee while the children play. My sisters and I each went to the spa, where we each had massages. They were amazing! The restaurant is vegan and very pricey for being such. My dish was yummy, however if your not vegetarian or love vegetables, I wouldn't recommend it This was the case for my one of my sisters, she didn't even take a bite. We had a party of 10 our bill was over 300
They have yoga classes and a gym. You may also rent bikes and canoes we will be checking this out today. The staff has been very kind and as we pass workers each one is polite. The swimming pool is nice, it's depth goes to 7ft and the hot tub is also nice.

ITS STRICT VEGAN! don't go there with your family. Although the chef is quite creative. Not very warm towards children. Room are old and musty. most had bugs and spiders . So sorry to tell y'all the truth be we were very disappointed. Most of the staff seemed far being "healing environment and were in fact condescending" strange we are well traveled and never experienced such a feeling of "not comfortable". The pulsating electric car chargers outside your windows big NO NO couldn't sleep. Nobody cared....

Phenomenal. The setting is gorgeous. Their garden is amazing. The room was beautiful and very tastefully decorated and appointed. It smelled faintly of cedar, had a Kuerig coffee machine, and freshly baked cookies. The staff was so thoughtful. They even had a tiny robe in the room for my four year old daughter. Canoeing on the Big River was a delight... We watched a sea otter fish for about 20 minutes straight. The salt water pool was so relaxing and refreshing. And I really enjoyed the Ravens restaurant (though if you're not a vegan your mileage may vary). Overall my favorite resort ever. We'll be returning soon.

My wife picked this one for our anniversary. The room was spotless and included all of the amenities (wood burning fireplace, fridge, microwave, TV and DVD player). The bucolic setting is ideal for a get away. The resturant is vegan and we quickly learned that we need greese and meat with our meals, so it is ideal for those who are serious about their diet. If you turn your dictionary to the term dog-friendly, you will find a picture of the Stanford Inn by the Sea. We did not bring our pack but most guests did. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The inn is a two story building and our room was on the ground floor. Unfortunately, the cast of River Dance was in the room above us. I would have expected the staff to put parties with children on the first floor, but obviously that did not occur to them. So if you do not get a room on the second floor bring ear plugs.

Keep in mind that I am a Tom Bodett kind-of-guy.
