This is the best hotel that I ever stayed at. Me and my girl were there during Nov. The color is vivid, the view is peaceful. Soak your body in the hot tub, your mind just set free. I wish I could stay longer.

The location of the hotel is nice if you are exploring Arashiyama. It is within walking distance to most of the touristy places.

The room is clean, with the standard amenities. There are fruits in the room on our arrival, and they put some sweets in for the turn-down service.

The hotel also allows guests to purchase evening tickets to Hogon-in in advance, which means you won't have to line up for 30 minutes just to buy the ticket for the evening illumination.

The hotel is rather small, so don't expect an upgraded room based on status, especially during peak seasons.

This hotel is very nice although very expensive as well. Staffs are very friendly. Room is clean. the outdoor hot spring is also very nice.

The most impressed part of my stay was in fact the restaurant. They do very fine Japanese food.

Amazing hotel!
The room is clean and comfortable, especially the bed.

The dinner is great and better than we all expected. Also the breakfast.

Strongly recommend the Champagne happy hour at the cafe and the dinner.

Staffs are very very helpful and friendly, we managed to get the specialize menu for some reasons and all the staffs worked very hard to solve our requests.

The hotel offers one-way pick-up/ drop-off between hotel and Kyoto station, which is very helpful, especially when there are senior members in the group.

One of the best experiences in Japan.

Crazy nice hotel. Quiet and peaceful and sits on the edge of the river. You're within walking distance of a ton of food, shops, temples, monkey park and a bunch of beautiful forests. A little outside of Kyoto center so alot of places within walking distance close before 8pm. Expensive, but if you got the money, worth it.

The greatest assets here are their beautiful compound and proximity to some nice places - the bamboo grove (which you could be there early morning before the crowd came in), Ōkōchi Sansō, the remote Daihikakuzan Senko-ji and our favourite restaurant in Arashiyama, Hirokawa. Also a strategic location for annual December Kyoto Hanatouro week. Room and service is good, as expected from The Luxury Collection hotels. Be cautious of the onsen temperature, seemed to be too hot.

Try not to miss having sundown drinks at Cafe Hassui, relaxing with the wonderful scenery. As for their dinner and breakfast, Kyo-Suiran is passable, should strive to improve.
If you prefer stronger coffee, take a casual stroll to % Arabica, about 5 mins walk.

The service is top notch. Their attention to detail is spotless. They also offer free champagne , wine hour everyday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. The rooms are nice and spacious, good shower pressure , rooms are quiet. The spa service is amazing and a must try. You can also book yourself in a private hot spring bath. Breakfast is expensive but a good experience. Walkable to bamboo forest, train station and lots of good food. Only bad thing is the town shuts down around 6pm.

Recommendation, wake up early , have breakfast and go for a morning stroll in the bamboo park , temples before all the tourist arrive!...

While Japanese service is top notch in general, Suiran has absolutely perfected it. The staff operates seamlessly as a team and anticipates your needs before you know you need them. They are generous with their wine and champagne and snack hours and the restaurant food is amazing. My room had it’s own onsen which was an amazing and unexpected treat. The staff really goes the extra mile to make guests feel special and catered to. 5 stars is not enough to describe how attentive, thoughtful and prepared the staff is. One of the best experiences of my life.

We love the service and ambience of the Suiran hotel. The staff are incredibly friendly, and go out of their way to make us feel welcome. Our room is large and has a private terrace and garden outside floor to ceiling sliding glass door. The large easily-set shower leads to a spacious hot (soaker) tub that is big enough for two, with a nice view outside: Japanese maple turning colors this November day. The toilet is a multi function high tech model, with heated seat, that even flushes itself.
The included breakfast included three juices (orange, carrot, tomato) and 8 or so tapas-style mini dishes (yogurt, granola, pineapple, strawberries, and several others).
The location is ideal for the tourist highlights of the area, all within an easy walk. Our advice is to have breakfast at 7, then visit the attractions before the tour buses arrive. Be sure to return in time for the champagne happy hour!
This is an expensive hotel, but go for it if you can!

An haute interpretation of a Japanese ryokan in the shadow of Arashiyama. It is an oasis from the hustle and bustle of urban activity and tourism with easy access to the nearby bamboo forest and Tenryu-ji (temple), a World Heritage site. We stayed in the Yuzunoha room which has its own small backyard and an outdoor private bath that pipes in the same mineral water as the spa hot spring that the hotel is known for. Food options are a little sparse and the surrounding area is kind of touristy, but if you're looking for a meditative retreat, this is the place to stay.

Beware of the location. Arashiyama is so very far from Kyoto Station and everything else you want to see in Kyoto.

The location/space of Suiran-san is amazing, within walking distance to the Arashiyama Bamboo Groves. The private garden/onsen in our room was fantastic. I have to dock a point for mediocre service by Japanese standards (certainly far below St Regis Osaka or Park Hyatt Tokyo).

Gracious service, beautiful setting. We stayed in the Japanese style room and loved it! The location is convenient for walking to the bamboo forest, the monkeys, the romantic train, and other attractions in old Kyoto.

A stunning location only equalled by the attentive and friendly staff. No request was ever an issue. Was a lovely tranquil hotel with a gorgeous little hot spring.

The champagne overlooking the water was a lovely additional gesture we will remember.

Incredibly attentive service and unbelievable grounds and gardens in a stunning location. They serve a delicious sencha tea when you walk in to check in. They have a few lovely outdoor spas that you need to book in advance. The rooms are huge and modern with a Japanese decor and sensibility but Western comfortable beds. The hotel is walking distance from a bunch of cafes and restaurants and a dozen tourist attractions: gardens, temples, a monkey sanctuary, boat rides and rickshaw rides. I would have loved to stay longer and will definitely be back!

Loved our stay here; so peaceful and relaxing (the gardens and the paths alongside the river particularly) but with easy access to central Kyoto. Rooms are well appointed and comfortable and the breakfasts are excellent. Would return in a heartbeat.
