A fabulous hotel when staying near or in Abergavenny. Whether you are with the family or a romantic weekend away, the Angel is perfect. As a family we always stay in the Castle Lodge which is an amazing cottage in the grounds of the Castle. The best garden in Aber and you get it all to yourself.....Definitely one to check out. The food, staff and atmosphere is all fantastic....

The hotel is located in the very centre of Abergavenny at one end of the pedestrian area. Rooms are quite good and equipped with AC and as clean as expected, nice overall atmosphere with a hint of modern style but still very classic in a positive way. The price is rather high, but the rooms, staff and very good breakfast justify the rates. The bread and croissants for breakfast are just delicious and home made in their own bakery. When it comes to dinner the answer still is the same: I had no single dish that was not worth the relatively high price. If you go for desserts: cheesecake is a must!

Cute place to stay. You can also reserve a table in the restaurant and go to the bar, without having a room in the hotel. Really nice atmosphere.

High Tea at the Angel Hotel Abergavenny. Delicious selection of savoury pastries, sandwiches, and small cakes. Choice of teas amazing. We enjoyed the selection and were considering dragging ourselves away from the restful calming ambience when we were asked if we were ready for scones jam and cream. Luckily we were provided with boxes to take home our "leftovers". Lovely experience especially if you are with a party .

Utterly fantastic afternoon tea. I live in Singapore and my wife has dragged me to many of the 5* hotels to sample their daily offering which are often excellent but this trumps the lot. British classic absolutely nailed from sausage rolls to sandwich scone and cake. I have pictures on my SLR will edit when I can.

PS. Tea selection was great and staff were fantastic

Great refurbishment of this hotel. We had an evening meal in the bar. Very good food and excellent service - gave you time to enjoy the meal rather rushing you in and out with meaningless plesentries. Well worth a visit

What a fantastic hotel!!!!!!, staff are amazingly professional, more like a 5 ☆☆☆☆☆. Quait little town with one off shops, The Traditional pubs all had log fires going or Woodburningstoves. I would definitely recommend a lovely weekend at the Angel Hotel, old and traditional hotel, spotlessly clean and the food!!, locally sourced and a bakery in house making soda bread , brown or white bread. FANTASTIC! !!!, SEE US VERY SOON.😊

Went here for Festive High Tea. Absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable. Even an obese person like myself only just managed to eat it and was unable to have any of the items left by my partner. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

The Angel Hotel is a beautiful rabbit warren of a hotel in the centre of Abergavenny. You have many eating choices but the most famous is afternoon high tea. Not a cheap choice at £30 a head but if you like the ambience of being served tea and cakes in regal surroundings and can fit it all in then a very enjoyable experience.

Went there today for High tea to celebrate my mother's birthday. I can't express how attentive and excellent the staff were . Natalia and her staff ( a big mention to Patrick who made us laugh all afternoon) were just incredible. The High tea itself was so lovely and lots of it !!!!! lol No forgetting the endless supply of tea and coffee we kept being served 😉 . I really can't recommend The Angel highly enough and we all really look forward to visiting again x

Afternoon tea at The Angel is my favourite place to go. The cakes are always delicious and i love the seasonal extra they add in, this time it was strawberries and cream. With the option to sample as many of their teas as desired this is by far the best place I've ever been for afternoon tea.

Overpriced, but good food and drinks. The steak was really nice, the gammon was good quality and the cocktails and desserts also good. It's quite a posh place, very nicely decorated. We sat out in the enclosed courtyard to eat after a day on the river wye and it was a lovely atmosphere.

Visiting from Canada and stopped by the Angel Hotel for a drink with my dad. The service was excellent, and the location is great. There is an outside patio, but it is enclosed by 4 walls, so you are able to get fresh air without the traffic or noise from the street. I ordered a mojito and the bartender made it with completely fresh ingredients, even freshly crushed iced. Highly recommend this place.

10

The rooms have recently been refurbished to a high standard. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic; but not always efficient.

The bakery on site is good and both breakfast and high tea are excellent.

The main restaurant is up market, and good, but not so good that you should neglect the bistros a few yards away in the town.

Finally, the location is such that we didn't use our car during our stay

A beautiful looking hotel. I have never stayed there but have been for afternoon high tea on 3 occasions. Each time both the food and sevice have been amazing. The high tea consists of sandwiches, a selection of pastries, scones, a mini trifle and a selection of delicious cakes to share. It is absolutley gorgous. There is a vast range of teas on offer including herbal, fruit and infusions as well as coffee's and hot chocolate. The service is attentive but not overpowering and the staff are very knowledgeable about the teas. I have tried many places locally for afternoon tea and this is by far the best. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Went for the afternoon tea with my partner.
Whilst this was VERY much outside of my comfort zone I did enjoy my time here. Service was exceptional, Staff were polite, clean and well dressed and the Teas / Food were fantastic.

The only thing I would say is that it felt very... formal, However that is the type of place it is, so make sure you dress appropriately.

Lovely afternoon tea, food was all fresh & a wide variety. I enjoyed that it was served away from the main hotel in a welcoming room with clean linen and China. It may not look like much for two on the stand but it should was, plus if you get full, take the rest home all boxed up for you.

The seating and atmosphere is extremely comfortable with an open fire and hardwood tables. The service was really quick and the staff very friendly and helpful. For the price of the food it could have been a bit better quality, especially for a lunchtime meal, but it wasnt bad by any means!

My husband and I took a trip and stayed at this hotel. Best hotel of the whole trip. Their accommodations are lovely, very comfortable beds. We had breakfast there in the morning as well. My husband had the English breakfast and I had the French toast and both were awesome. We also had lunch at their restaurant and that meal was to die for. It was a duck and cabbage and plate and I'm still dreaming about it!! It's all I could think about for the rest of the trip!! There was also a lot of things to do around the area. Just a minute walk from the whispering castle, and cute little areas to walk around and shop. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Lovely market town hotel. A local hub, host to lots of functions, but welcoming to all, whether for a meal or just a drink or coffee. The decor is superb but the staff are exceptional, determined to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Dogs are allowed in the bar, which makes it a popular choice for dog walkers at the end of a stroll and serious walkers enjoying a holiday.

Went to the Angel Hotel for Afternoon Tea with family because it had been highly recommended and it's fully deserved. Staff were all great and very helpful, there was an excellent selection of sandwiches, cakes and warm pastries and a huge selection of teas. Went here for high tea. Was the best ever. The selection of tea was huge like a wine list and you can try any that you like with unlimited top up brews the christmas seasonal tea was so good we bough some to have at home. I also proposed to my girlfriend and they were more than helpful with the planning and brought out complimentary champange when she said yes. I could not recomend this place enough.

Sunday Lunch @ The Angel Hotel

After hearing that The Angel Hotel had won AA Hotel of the Year I thought it would be worth a try and I was not disappointed.

Sunday lunch was one of the nicest I have experienced in South Wales for a long, long time. A big thank you to the chef at staff at The Angel.

The roast beef dinner was superb as was my starter.

Well worth a visit in my opinion.

Located on the main street in Abergavenny Town centre, we chose this hotel due to some great food reviews.
As you walk into reception you quickly realise that the hotel is far more interesting than it first appears. It has a superb frontage which gives it an air of quality and history but, clearly, internally there has been an awful lot of work done.
The hotel has so many different rooms and outdoor areas that it feels like a very tiny town in itself! Lounges, bars, breakfast room, dining room and a couple of separate outdoor spaces give the impression of a much larger building that it first seems.
We initially thought we'd stay one night and move on to see more of the countryside but we loved this place so much we opted for another a night.
Situated on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, there is plenty to go see and do (or not do). The great thing about this place is that, if the weather is bad, you can happily stay around the hotel all day in the many different areas.
the atmosphere is very relaxed and we never came across one member of staff who didn't greet us and ask how our stay was going.
Food was exceptional, whether breakfast, lunch or evening meal and I'd certainly recommend eating here.
They have special room deals that include an evening meal and this is superb value for money.
The rooms themselves are good, not palatial by any means but nicely finished. Our first room had a lovely bathroom with roll top bath. We couldn't stay there the second night as it was booked so out second room was smaller and had only a shower.
Both actual rooms had really comfortable beds and a TV and tea making facilities. Staff were more than happy to bring fresh milk.
We found you didn't need to spend much time in the room as the various indoor and outdoor spaces were much more interesting.
We would definitely stay here again, the food, the staff and the surrounding area make this a really superb place to be.
