Topaz Hotel, a Kimpton Hotel

Kimpton Topaz Hotel offers an urban hideaway for the socially engaged and globally conscious, in DC's Dupont neighborhood. Our hotel's intimate size (99 rooms) allows for a special kinship between guests and staff, and a welcoming lotus pond sets the initial tone of low-key tranquility. Those wanting to partake in engaging, worldly conversations settle into our Moroccan-inspired bar; others retreat to luxurious rooms with a soothing color palette and top-notch amenities.

Minutes from downtown Washington DC Dupont Circle is a dynamic a vibrant community that is defined by both trends and tradition.

The independent spirit of Dupont Circle is the neighborhoods biggest attraction. Progressive thinkers politicians professionals and artists coexist in this unique and exhilarating area where reinvention adds to the history of a place that has been on the move for 150 years.

Green Key Eco-Rating Program 4

With more than 1,200 hotels certified in Canada since its inception in the 1990s, the Green Key Eco-Rating Program awards hotels an environmental rating of one to five Green Keys. Green Key members are then given guidance on how to "unlock" opportunities to reduce operating costs and environmental impacts - and in turn earn more keys.

The Green Key audit looks at nine major areas of sustainable hotel operations:
• Energy conservation
• Water conservation
• Solid waste management

While the front desk service was extremely professional. Both evening and morning staff were great. Parking fees were high. The room while it looked like the pictures, the hotel had a weird smell of an old building. I spent two nights and couldn’t get used to the smell. It was very noticeable to me. The AC was a mother nightmare. The temperature was set to a certain degree and you can’t change it. The fan was on the entire time and the air was not moderately cool that made the room atmosphere very humid. I was sweating the entire night. Oh no one will help you with luggage. Also the elevator is very small and you have to take few steps before you can get inside , keep in mind your carrying your luggage. I can see where this is not a problem for younger guests but someone with a chronic condition that was a challenge for me.

We stayed here last year for my brother’s wedding and everyone of us enjoyed the stay immensely. Great location, clean rooms, and the staff is second to none. We honestly felt like we were at home here. Will definitely stay on our next visit and would recommend to anyone traveling to DC.

Rooms and decor were very nice. Location is close to the metro and to several nice restaurants. My only complaint is breakfast. There are no healthy options and there was just never enough - plates, bowls, food, drinks, places to sit. Otherwise very good affordable option.

Disappointing at best. The room was okay, but has no fridge. You have to pay for the use of the safe. It’s a good location, but it’s not a great hotel. The room looked tired and was somewhat musty. No idea why. The breakfast consists of pastries, breads, etc. the evening fare was a wine event which was well attended.

I stayed here for 5 days in April. The room was very large, clean and recently decorated in contemporary style. The location is close to the Metro, restaurants and is on a residential street. The staff were outstandingly committed to guests' comfort and could not have been nicer. We will definitely stay here again.

I stayed here for 2 nights in August. The hotel staff were extremely nice and accommodating. The hotel room was large and spacious compared to other hotels in large cities with great location. The major issue we encountered was the AC in our room. We attempted to set the thermostat to a lower temperature, but the actual temperature of the room never went below an approximate 75 degrees. By no means were we at risk of heat stroke, but it was warmer then you would want for an expensive hotel room. The lack of circulation made the high humidity worse, and I almost went out and bought a fan.

The hotel does allow pets, which we had 2 dogs, but does not have a place for them to go in the immediate area. About 4 blocks away there is a small park that works perfect, but you do need to plan accordingly.

Overall, this hotel has a great location, and offers many amenities. If not for it being the middle of the summer, I'm sure our stay would have been much more pleasant.

Nice hotel with good amenities. Our room is spacious. The afternoon wine down is fun even if they had no red wine one night. Car parking is expensive but we are just a few blocks from Dupont square.

Everyone we met here was super friendly, helpful and even charming. From Jean (?) the bellman to the morning front desk crew, Robert and Brittany, we couldn't be happier with our check-in experience. Robert even gave our restless kids popsicles. They accommodated our busy touring schedule and let us leave our bags while we took in the city. The evening front desk team of Chris and Matthew (?) (I'm sorry if I got the name wrong) were also fabulous. And the best part was a surprise happy hour of complimentary wine and pita chips with hummus, and then a second round of wine with chocolate chip cookies. It was the perfect way to end a long, hot day. It was these little, thoughtful touches that made this hotel stand out amongst the variety of hotels we stayed at on this trip. I had never heard of this chain before, but now they are on my list of places to look out for. I haven't even mentioned the room which was surprisingly large and very comfortable. They even provided a plushy bathrobe for winding down in and a yoga mat to start your mornings off right. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would recommend this place to everyone.

Active staff efficient service. Enjoyed staying here back in 2017. Very nice view & friendly workers. Variety of items in the continental breakfast was the speciality. However, I think if halal food will be added in the menu it would add further value. For, at times I had to dine out due to this one discrepancy. Overall, i enjoyed so much!!!!👌👍

The hotel was great, the service was amazing. They really go above and beyond to meet your needs or any request you can think of. I gave 3 stars instead of 4 because parking is expensive. I stayed around the corner at the Palladium for 1/2 the price and my room had ants. The room itself was really neat and contemporary in style, but the ants that showed up when I decided to eat killed it for me. I had two rooms reserved and only one had ants so I believe this is an isolated event. I would stay there again though because I know where cheaper parking is located and hopefully no ants.

Kimpton's staff were super friendly. They were accommodating as well, offering us rooms on a higher floor, along with telling us about the free wine they had at various points in the day. There was also breakfast they informed us about. The beds were very comfy, the decor was chic and modern and the rooms were really clean. The only downside is the elevators, which moves like a turtle and come super late because of that reason, but other than that everything was great. I hated the resort fee the most, which is the only drawback of booking at cities such as DC and NY noawadays.

While they had overbooked for the evening and had to my party to Kimpton Glover Park hotel, they were very polite. The manager Michael also helped quickly and professionally resolve a billing issue following the stay.

I found the Kimpton Glover Park customer service to be less than what I would expect.

Stayed at the hotel with my wife and 9 month old. Called the day of the arrival at 2pm to remind them I'll need a crib. Checked in at 8pm and was told house keeping would bring the crib to the room. At 845 I called wondering where it was, was told they gave the last crib out and were calling sister hotels to get one. Walked to the lobby at 915 to find out when they expected it to arrive with them still on the phone looking for a crib. I stayed until I heard they found one. After that it took 20 minutes. All in all over 2 hours. Very frustrated with the service. Location and rooms were nice. Breakfast was free but very limited. Wouldn't probably stay again.

Nice space, but don’t be fooled by the listed price. They absolutely kill you with the required “amenities.” You pay $23/night for WiFi whether you want it or not. And $55 a night to park. You can park in Manhattan for less than that. Upside: the people are great, and free wine in the evenings.

Stayed for 3 nights with 2 toddlers, the front desk staff was very accommodating to our requests. Came back to the hotel on our last night in DC and noticed our AC was making weird noises. The engineer came to fix it, but after a few tries, it was determined that the rotor needed to be replaced. Britney at the front desk quickly arranged another room for us so that the kids were able to get back to sleep quickly. Thanks for the great customer service and a good stay.

Not the best Kimpton in DC but still very nice with fun, modern decor and a very friendly staff. When I asked if there was supposed to be red wine in the mini bar, I was told they didn't have any at the moment but they'd send me up a glass from the bar for free! Be sure to sign up for and use Kimpton Karma (free rewards system). Each visit you get free wifi and $10 mini-bar credit (try the cheese crunchies - I always get these). There are free bikes to borrow and this location at the base of DuPont is really convenient to shops, restaurants, bars, Metro, etc.

No frills property in a great location. Staff was very friendly and helpful, though there were a couple of disappointing decisions. First, there was a very large dog barking in the room directly across the hall from ours for an entire day. I love pets and pet friendly accomodations, however leaving a poor dog in a room alone all day is unacceptable. The staff attempted to contact the owners to no avail for over 6 hours on the day we earmarked for rest in our rooms. Not so much as a breakfast credit was offered in consideration. Second, we were here from Florida escaping Irma. I was assured there would be plenty of availability in the event we needed to book an extra night. When our flight was cancelled and we attempted to book an extra night, we were quoted a rate for the one night that exceeded what we payed for the previous three nights combined. There was plenty of availability in the property, no reason to triple nightly room rates for a Monday night. This blatant display of rate hiking in the event of a natural disaster was very disappointing from a company we were thus far quite happy with. Prior to the trip I was excited to try the Kimpton properties on future visits; now I'm not as eager to reward Kimpton with my business when they so clearly lacked regard for guests displaced by a natural disaster.

The room was absolutely beautiful but a little bit wonky as far as layout was concern. The bathroom was small but there was a larger vanity area just outside and the t.v was right at the foot of the bed. There was a centipede in our room which was pretty gross but there weren't any other bugs that we saw besides that one. There was a complimentary breakfast and also a complimentary wine hour, but we weren't able to make it to either because we were in town for a wedding. Staff was friendly and accomodating (they even had a curling iron available to use b/c I forgot mine at home and do have other supplies available for free use). I would definitely recommend this hotel if someone asked, despite the small issues we had.

From checking in with Michelle at the front desk, to our hip, beautiful, clean & quiet room w a comfortable bed, it was a 5 star experience all the way.

We felt at home and were enchanted with our stay. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. The manager, Vernon, took very good care of us. We really enjoyed the free happy hour concept and the restaurant staff, Maurice & Kevin were terrific!! Food was delicious!!

Free wifi is available if you join the Kimpton hotel rewards program, thus negating any fee. We did not experience any issues w slow wifi as some of the other reviewers mentioned.

Would love to rate this a 5 but due to the air conditioner not working efficiently and the $14 continental breakfast I can not. They did comp our breakfast and were very understanding. Besides having big and spacious rooms with a very good rate, last night my son got sick and they immediately accommodated me to a new room, help us with things like new toothbrushes and toothpaste ( he made a mess ) , and helped me out with all I needed. This happened around midnight. The girls in the reception ( i was so flustered I failed to get their name ) were ALL very sweet and helpful. I will never forget this amazing service! Clean and decent, though there are obvious indications of lack of care or maintenance. But service is horrible. They need more people. Room cleaning wasn't done when we returned to the room well past 3pm. They're was a dirty set of dishes on a tray that was on the floor of the hallway the entire weekend we were there, even after we reported it as a potential tripping hazard. Great location.

If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can check it out on HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they have the cheapest rates around...

Definitely the definition of a hotel is not just a room where to stay, is a group of several things and details that make the difference and my family and I have had a great experience staying in Topaz Hotel in Washington DC. We got there in a big 15 people Van that is really hard to park and Maxine, Amanda and Edwin did it so easy for us that I was really surprise. then the check in was really fast these guys were so kind, the rooms are just like you see it on pictures, comfortable and clean.
You're going to find everything close to the hotel, you have the subway the Dupont Circle or you can also walk to the White House. You have restaurants and everything you would like to see in a marvelous city.

Thank you Maxine, Amanda, Glenda and of course the captain of Front Desk Team Mr. Christopher Cross I called him the music composer, please don't go any other hotel in DC, meet these guys in this great hotel.

For sure we'll be back soon guys

I am a big fan of Kimpton chain but this particular hotel is the most weird in the sense that the bellboy checked us in, another guest was checking in and had a wheelchair person in their party and the disability elevator for 3 steps wasn't working. Disorganized staff. The room is good it was just my first impression.

This is my first time staying at a Kimpton property and it won't be my last. The hosted free wine hour and creative room decor were great, and itdoesn'thurt that they offer you a free bar credit when you join their rewards program. The location is good, rooms are fine, but the walls are super thin and we got woken up at 3am when the room next to us decided to have a dance party. The staff was helpful in getting them to turn off their music, but we were awake for a good half an hour in the middle of the night... Not ideal :-/

They nickel and dimed us through in through. Got $20/day "hotel fee" which they explained to me as being similar to a resort fee. Obviously wasn't a fan of that since my $170/night is essentially the "hotel fee". The morning breakfast cost money, which was unknown to us. Also got hit pretty hard for parking ($50/night).

Won't be staying at any kimpton hotels anytime soon, especially with other options being available.

Very centrally located near Dupont Circle. Excellent and friendly service. Our rate was very reasonable and included parking.

Our son often gets homesick so I asked the hotel if they could put a couple of pictures of the planets in the room. When we arrived we found that they had made cut outs of all of the planets, decorated them and placed them all around his bed.

They went out to our car to pick up items we had left there, and when we checked out we were allowed to keep our car parked at the hotel and they brought our bags out to the car for us. We returned in the evening and they retrieved our car. Much more convenient than finding parking in DC.

There were only two issues and they are not reflected in the rating for the hotel. The first is that we had asked for a wake up call as backup in case we overslept and the call was late. Fortunately we had already woken up, but if you had a flight to catch I can imagine that might be a problem. The call was for 830 which is fairly late so maybe an earlier wake up time wouldn't have caused the same issue. The other problem was they accidentally charged the wrong rate. As soon as I noticed they corrected the issue without any discussion. So I guess pay close attention to the bill.

All in all, these were offset for me by tge excellent service and high quality of the rooms (our room was enormous even not by DC standards). We are definitely staying here next time we're in DC.

Very clean large rooms but hotel lobby is tiny. Be prepared to deal with an extremely inquisitive staff. Upon entering hotel you will feel thier prying eyes on you all the way up to you room. They watch you through the monitors until you get off the elevator. When checking out, there will be a security guard watching what you take out of the hotel. One more negative comment is, no microwave, fridge, gym or POOL.
However, if you can deal with that, I highly recommend the hotel because the location is loaded with great resturants. The train is only two blocks away. You can catch a cab or the bus up the block. Around the corner there is a station where you can rent city bikes. You are only 10 mins from all the attractions.

So far a great place to stay. I killed it at Jenga and won two free glasses of wine and Malcom took care of us with reservations at a local restaurant. I like the atmosphere and as they say the little things mean a lot. Umbrellas available for use during your stay, bath robes. Amazing.
