Pretty nice little hotel. Rooms are nice but a bit small and cramped. Pool area is great and it's very close to the beach. Staff is a little rude and had lots of attitude but if you're super friendly they're ok. Having a balcony is also great, especially one that overlooks the pool area and faces the beach. I would stay here again

I loved this hotel. It's not a 4 star hotel but it's unique, directly across the street from the beach, has a great view, nice pool, clean rooms and didn't have any issues with the WiFi. The breakfast could be better but it does the job. I loved the space in the bathrooms and we really enjoyed the balconies. The beds are tiny, barely fit 2 people but comfortable. The staff was generally friendly but the front desk staff was not as friendly, more like annoyed or hassled. I will come back to stay here again, it was a great stay.

The location and views are on point but that's all thats good.

The only 2 positive things I can list is location and views. Because the hotel is literally on the Gulf of Mexico (Seawall Blvd) you get the best views in Galveston to me. Every room had a balcony facing the beach. It's also within walking distance to everything and that's great.

Now the bad...
1) The parking lot is painfully small.
2) The carpet, bedding and upholstery is old and/or dingy.
3)The doors both interior and exterior had peeling paint and questionable locks.
4)No modern amenities such as a iron, ironing board, small closet, microwave or small refrigerator.
5) My husband described the toilet as a
"Prison toilet" that was hidden right behind the bathroom door.
6) The air conditioner was ancient (not digital or even the old nob version) just a thermostat that wouldn't move up or down.

***Overall if u can afford better than save yourself the frustration and do better. The location and views just wasn't enough for me because I have to feel safe and comfortable while I sleep. The Commodore on the Beach just doesn't offer that. If they ever update themselves I'll be first in line to book but until then I'll pass and I strongly suggest u do the same.

Not a bad room or location. A little bit of a dive hotel on the outside but the room itself is pretty nice. The restaurants close by are amazing and the view is great!! For the hotel cost it's fair.... Not bad but not great overall

This little place needs some work. Rented 2 rooms, the a/c worked okay in 1 but not so well in the other. The mattresses we had really needed replacing. We pretty much kept our own room clean. The showers do not drain well. Breakfast was typical continental type little thing.
Now, on the other hand, there were no bedbugs (yayyy). The pool was clean enough. The showers had hot water. The place is right across from the beach in a decent location. The view was good.
The room rates I thought were high for what you get but then again it is on the beach !

Awesome chic hotel over looking the beach. I love the room, I love the hotel. Parking is a little difficult so take that into consideration. also the entire hotel is filled with No smoking, no pets take off your shoes no sand in the room, signs. So although I did love the room and I did enjoy my stay I felt like I couldn't really get comfortable because I was worried about people coming in the room and needing to clean it up. Or being charged for something or somebody smoking somewhere they weren't supposed to smoke so it made it a little uncomfortable. Also the staff when I checked in completely ignored me and we're surprisingly rude and unfriendly. It didn't feel like I was being welcomed to a hotel, it was a weird feeling but again I love the hotel. I love that it overlooks the ocean and I loved the room I just think maybe the staff needs a little bit more training.

We just spent 4 days here and it was great! It's not fancy, but it's ocean view rooms with balconies, great pool, and walking distance to everything you need like; a few good restaurants, gas station, Pleasure Pier, gift shops, etc. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the A/C didn't work to well, we had to go buy 2 cheap box fans for our room while we stayed. After we got the fans going, all was good! The other negative was the room key didn't work well, we struggled everytime we needed to use it but would eventually work after a few attempts. BUT.... Pool and ocean view balcony were good enough for me! I'd go back!

The Commodore is one of the old nostalgic motels right on Seawall Boulevard. You can walk just across the street and be on the beach. Also right there in the same parking lot is the gumbo Diner, which is where this picture was taken. Awesome food right there in the same parking lot.
At the Commodore you're not paying for luxury, you are paying for accessibility to the beach and the location. They do have a swimming pool that faces Seawall Boulevard. They do not allow pets or smoking.

***Updated June 2018***
I have changed my rating from 5 stars to 4 stars from my last stay to this current stay.

This is my 3rd time staying here. Let me start by saying this is an older hotel with older amenities, and I am writing my review based on the fact that older hotels do not bother me as long as they are clean and safe. For starters, you cannot beat the location! It's centrally located and walking distance to the Pleasur Pier and right next door to a wonderful Joe's Crab Shack that has a playground and gulf views. It's on a corner, and there's a crosswalk to the beach, and pier right there in front of the hotel. There's a lifeguard stand right there too, so that's nice! The pool is awesome and you can see the gulf and beach when swimming in the pool. There's a 3 foot section and goes to 8 feet so younger kids and older kids can have fun in the pool. The rooms are clean and basic. No fridge, but you can request to rent one for a small fee- first come first served. No microwave in room, but one is available for use in lobby. Every time we left for the day and came back, the room had been cleaned very nicely, every inch, including the bathroom. They even took the time to put my sons stuffed animal and blanket on the bed like I would at home. The view is amazing too! Every room (with a few exceptions) has an amazing view overlooking the beach, and most overlook the beach and pool. The staff was friendly (mostly), and there were always multiple people running around working and keeping busy. Some of the staff could care less about working there, but that's their business and so far it hasn't affected our stay. Just don't expect smiling faces all the time from staff. That's not personally a deal breaker for me, but it may be for someone else. Breakfast is cereal, muffins, and oatmeal. Sometimes bananas. Hey, that's fine with me! They also have lemonade, apple juice, orange juice, and coffee available 24/7. They have discontinued the free cookies from 5 to 8pm. The price is decent. It's gone up quite a bit since our last stay, but parking is free which makes it nice that so much is within walking distance. Almost everywhere you go in Galveston you have to pay to park. This last stay I had some issues with my key not working multiple times during our four day stay. Not sure what that was about, but they always fixed it no problem. I will definitely be back and recommend this to anyone who does not mind staying in older hotels. I personally LOVE a vintage feel when at the beach. Happy travels!

This place is older and affordable.
The rooms are clean. A basic am continental breakfast is included with coffee and juices available at all times. BEST OF ALL... it's just steps ACROSS the street from THE BEACH. Nice restaurants and stores within walking distance.

We didn't spend much time in the room but it was perfect for us. Great view. Close to everything. Privaye sitting area/baloney outside for each room. Beautiful pool. Coffee and juice avail as long as loby open. Offer small breakfast. Quiet. Nice staff. Great room and for the price it can't be beat!

The hotel is older and needs some updating. The room was clean, the bed was comfy. There was a patio facing the beach across the street. The pool looked inviting, but it was still rather chilly so we did not try it. The breakfast is nothing special. The location is great, walking distance to several restaurants and just cross the street to the beach. It's a basic room. nothing extra. It was a decent hotel for our 1 night stay on 4/25/2018. The staff that we encountered was pleasant.

I found my room to be clean and the staff courteous. The balcony was not thoroughly cleaned but not gross dirty. It's definitely an older hotel. The location is absolutely perfect.

Very cozy and clean rooms with a great view but I feel like the lady at the front desk could be a bit nicer. Very very old TV but good for the price. There is no room service despite what the description says but there's a great place to eat literally 10 feet from the hotel. Pool was very nice but they need to hire someone to clean out the green gunk from the fountains. I give it 3-5

Efforts have been made to keep this place afloat. They just cover the bare necessities to get by. Customer service is ok. The best part is location 😎 I wish they worked a little harder to make this a great place to stay... It's got the potential..... Why not???

Very 70’s hotel. The rooms look like lockers and they weren’t clean. But it is just across the beach and at waking distance to the amusement park and many shops. They have a pool and balconies so you can see the sea. Complementary breakfast was just coffee and an old muffin.

Great location and the staff was very nice. You get what you pay for here. The rooms are dated and very small. It was clean, and the beds were comfortable. You have a great view off the balcony. There's no little refrigerator and no microwave or coffee maker. Take an ice chest. The restroom was clean but small sink area. There is coffee in the lobby and for breakfast some cereal, packaged muffins, and some fruit. The elevator is, well, scary. We enjoyed our stay though.

We never had a problem during our 5 night stay last week - sure, it's a little dated and nothing fancy, but our room was clean, comfy and the AC worked great. The staff weren't overly friendly, but they were never rude, either. We absolutely loved the view and location to the beach, restaurants and other attractions. It's a great option if you don't plan on spending a lot of time in your room and want to save money to do other neat things around town. A fridge would have been nice, but it wasn't a deal-breaker for us to not have one. Internet was spotty, but we didn't mind as were out doing other things most of the week or on the beach.

Enjoyed our long weekend here. Literally right across the street from the beach. Quick Check in. Close to things to do. Nice pool. Breakfast was cereal and coffee, can't comment since there was never any left for us to try. We did enjoy our balcony view.

The hotel overall is decent, but the air conditioning could use updating. One of the best parts of the hotel is the view, every room has an ocean view. The pool is nice and the area clean. The price, which was in August on the weekend, was $274 with tax for a room with 2 full sized beds, it feels overpriced with the lack of sufficient air conditioning.

Nice pool and good customer service. Room is nice with ocean view in every room but room 218 a Palm tree blocks the view . Room 200 looks huge with big patio facing ocean it looks like. Room 221 is just like room 218 other than Palm tree it has great view of ocean and Ferris wheel that changes colors like firework show. Breakfast is muffin but great restaurant next door.

We stayed here before, and it was terrible.. There was construction in front of the hotel, that went on day and night.. Our room had a palm tree directly in front of the balcony, so you could not see the gulf, besides all the construction.. We were not told this, when we made reservations.. When we arrived at the hotel, the clerk was asleep in the lounge area, with the door locked.. and, even though we said we would be very late.. she said she had NO reservations for us.. We had to wait, until she could find previous clerk, to prove we had indeed, made reservations.. Then, we were charged more, and treated rudely!.. The room was not clean, and we had trouble getting towels.. The front desk was very rude, and didn't help with questions we had, nor things we needed.. We stayed here, because our families had been staying here, every summer vacation, for 25+ yrs, and rented the suite/double rooms when they came to stay..
I am guessing that complaints were made, because this time it was a fun trip.. This hotel has all balconies, facing the Gulf of Mexico.. They also face the pool, which face the Gulf, also!.. The staff in the lobby, were very helpful, and explained hours, and what they now offered.. A continental breakfast, w/ hot and cold cereal, muffins, milk, assorted juices, coffee, iced tea, & hot tea..
In the evening, there is milk and cookies, along w/coffee, tea, and juices.. I wish they had fresh fruit!
I met one of the cleaning staff, and we talked a little bit.. She came by our room, specifically, to see if we needed anything! Also, everyone working here, has greeted us with a hello, how are you, and a smile!..
I don't know who, made all these changes, but, they are a wonderful surprise.. We will be happy, to stay here again.. and recommend this hotel, to friends and family!☺❤

Stay was fun! Pool is pristine and the room just darling. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating from arrival to checkout. The view from the balcony was worth the price of the room. I understand every room overlooks the water.

Old motel with great beach and gulf views. Nothing fancy but in need of some upkeep but for the price its the best deal on the island. No coffee maker, fridge or microwave in rooms so if like having morning coffee's on the balcony bring your own mini coffee maker Clean and Comfy beds. The Continental breakfast was only cereal oatmeal and juice. No fruit, bagels or toast. Nice enough though we will stay here again. Walking distance to pleasure pier, Joe's Crab shack and Gaidos.

This hotel can be described as "you get what you pay for." Please read before you book with them. I'll be 110% honest.

When you call they seem super friendly and informative!! However, this is NOT the case when you arrive. Our trip was supposed to be Friday-Sunday...The kids talked my husband and I into leaving Thursday night around midnight. I made SURE to call the hotel before leaving to make sure this was ok and they could accommodate us. I made it clear we had a 6-7 hour drive and we would be arriving early morning. The lady told us it was no problem at all. We could pay a prorated amount for arriving early, and there were no issues. So, we load up our toddler, our one year old, and our 2 elementary aged kiddos and head out!! All is well, my husband and I had officially been awake for over 24 hours when we arrived and the kids were now crying and cranky from a 7 hour drive. I go inside to get our room and the lady at the desk is RUDE and starts SCREAMING at me!! Telling me the lady on the phone was wrong and she absolutely COULD NOT give us a room or let us in until 3pm!! At this point it is 6:30am!! I asked for a manager and she told me tough crap and handed me a card which called the hotel front desk. So basically she gave me a number to call her. Refused to give me any other information or way of reaching a manager. So I go back to my truck as my kids are screaming and crying. I made it clear on the phone that we have had a HORRIBLE couple months so my husband and I had to get away for a minute and we did not have extra money to spring for another hotel. I MADE SURE BEFORE LEAVING THE HOUSE that our early arrival was OKAY!! So, in a last attempt out of desperation I go back in and LITERALLY CRY AND BEG this lady who finally agreed to let us in but only because I was so upset and crying. We get to our room and it is filthy. My one year old is picking up old food from under the bed as I am trying to get it all clean. There is dirt in the corners, the floors are wet, and the sheets had what appeared to be blood stains. One bed was broken and crazy lopsided. The shower had dirt and sand all in it. Sad part is there were clean towels, the beds were made, and everything else so you could tell this was what they considered clean!! The view is awesome, and the cleaning staff is SUPER friendly, but don't expect ANY type of respect or care from the desk. Don't even expect them to honor what they tell you on the phone!! My much needed get away started with anger, frustration, disrespect, and upset. It ended with the same lady YELLING at my kid because I sent him down for a trash bag so we could properly clean the room back up before leaving!! She accused him of trying to use it to take extra cereal and muffins.. as if we need their crappy muffins and cheap cereal. When I questioned her about it, as usual, she was rude and told me "I don't care what you needs the bags for!! That is housekeepings job!! Don't do their job for them!!" Well, lady... something your momma clearly never taught you is, it is also a sign of common courtesy and RESPECT to clean up after yourself!! We will NEVER come back!! And we will make sure to tell everyone we know NOT to go here!!

It's a nice hotel, front desk was very helpful, they have coffee & juice 24/7 & cookies!!!! You can open your window & See the beach while you lay down or watch TV. The pool is nice. It's a nice hotel. Interesting rooms, but if you go to spend time outside this is perfect. I didn't like the breakfast, cereal & muffins it's not my favorite breakfast, but the coffee was good.

Clean bedding, helpful front staff, cookies and milk time at 5pm. This place was great all the way up to the point where we left some shoes in the room, called later that day to ask for them to hold them for us and they were never seen and no where to be found. That alone dropped the establishment 2 stars for dishonest staff/maintenance.
