Gorgeous room, super friendly staff, especially the reception team. Great facilities and I loved how it was located next to a shopping mall! Would definitely stay here again.

10

Excellent hotel near Porto more comparable to a Westin or similar upper scale hotel for US guests. Full services with very friendly and helpful staff. Location may look daunting on paper on a map but wasn't a problem at all - it's right next to a very large, modern shopping mall and the Porto Football Stadium walking distance from a major train station and near a couple of subway stops. Would strongly recommend for tourists, business travelers and football hooligans alike!

Very nice hotel which has all the standards of the Marriott brand. In walking distance from a nice mall. Only 4 stars as it is a little big far from the historical centre. Very near to Porto's football stadium.

Contemporary, modern hotel. Location is great, just a long 5 minute walk to the Metro station. The Porto Metro is convenient, and affordable to get around Porto. Room is beautifully furnished, chic decor. Bed was comfortable. Bath and showers worked well. Love the wood floors. Very quiet despite that my room was facing the highway/freeway. It didnt bother me at all. Wifi worked well. Staff was great, from desk check in was a breeze. I love that the hotel is equipped with multilingual staff. Housekeeping did a wonderful job throughout and great attention to detail. Breakfast buffet is offered with minimal offerings. For Elite Gold/Platinum Members- No Free Breakfast- you can buy the breakfast for 13euros or just take the metro to a nearest cafe I'm sure you'll spend less. The only negative was there was no restaurants, cafes or bars within walking distance. However, it is connected to a huge mall. They do have fast food casual at the food court. The supermarket Continente is just a hop and skip away. They have a cafe style area and they serve ready made meals/snacks.
Overall experience was positive. Will definitely stay here again.

Meh.

My wife and I recently vacationed to Portugal for our tenth anniversary, and spent our first four nights at the AC Hotel in Porto.

First, the positives: the AC is (relatively) well located, adjoining the Alameda shopping center and immediately adjacent to Estadio do Dragao, the home of FC Porto. Conveniently, Estadio do Dragao is also the home of the terminus for most of Porto's metro lines, which means that finding a train is never a problem.

Additionally, the overall state of the hotel is perfectly fine: our room was clean, with chic styling, if a bit on the small side (even for Europe). Particularly given that we were out exploring the sites rather than sitting in our room, it more than met our needs.

At the same time, there were several minor annoyances that kept this from being a 4 or 5-star experience.

First, as some other reviewers have noted, this hotel is noisy. On our second night there, the occupant of the adjacent room apparently had an early morning meeting or flight, because I was jolted from my sleep by the sharp noise of them turning on the lights / removing their cell phone from the plug in the room next door. For the next 30 minutes, I listened as they went to the bathroom, showered, and sung a traditional Portugese tune in the shower, almost as if they'd been in my room instead of theirs. That wasn't all, unfortunately. Our bed squeaked every time one of us moved, and we frequently heard our upstairs neighbors as they walked from one side of the room to the other. One bright spot: our room faced the A20, and we really didn't have any problems with noise from the highway. If only they'd spent the same level of attention on noise proofing between the rooms.

Second - and this is minor - the bar / restaurant at the hotel is extremely lacking. This is Portugal, true, so the expectation on cocktails needs to be limited. But the lack of any basic cocktails other than a mediocre gin and tonic is unacceptable for a bar in a 4-star hotel.

Finally - and I realize this may come across as somewhat entitled - if you're a Gold or Platinum Marriott member, don't expect the normal service you're used to with regard to upgrades and breakfast. We booked the trip using points, which we've done on multiple occasions at other Marriott properties around the world. Most of the time (including in Lisbon), we are upgraded to a slightly nicer room. At the AC in Porto - even with what seemed to be a half-empty hotel - we were not. Additionally, be warned that there is no concierge level here, and we were also informed that our room rate, "did not include breakfast," though we could purchase it for EUR 13 each, per day. We opted to find some local places around town instead.

Given the impending Starwood merger, it's hard for me to recommend the AC Porto over the Sheraton. Its only (slight) advantage is that it's closer to a better metro stop, but otherwise I think I'd prefer the hotel that probably does a better job of dealing with frequent travelers. The hotel didn't diminish our enjoyment of Porto - our favorite city on our trip - but it was, without question, the least enjoyable hotel of our stay. Nothing bad, but, as I said at the beginning, nothing better than, "Meh."

Renovated and friendly service. However, this place is noisy. Not sure what is causing it but everything seemed to make a weird noise (the shower, the AC, the elevator, etc).

Room (for 3) is spacious enough, equipped with a TV. Beds are comfortable, and provided with two fluffy pillows. Bathroom had a big tub to have a shower. Only thing that fell short was the breakfast: not so much options - yet very savory.

One of the larger AC hotels, located outside the city center but convenient to highways and many of the business areas on the East side of Porto. Good service, clean and consistent with the brand experience.

This is a nice looking hotel. Check-in was smooth though not anything memorable.
The property is supposed to be non smoking but I could smell smoke here and there through the night. I did not bring it up to the staff because really there isn't much they could do.
The layout of the room was odd. It's s long room with the desk in the middle and the tv is at the far end.
Bathroom was nice with a great selection of toiletries.
The hotel is not near the tourist attractions and you'll need to take a taxi.

Had a pleasant stay at the AC Porto hotel. It's about a 15 minutes away from the city center via the metro and is connected to a very nice mall with plenty of things that you may need for your travels. The hotel is relatively modern, with nice toiletries, sleek furniture and good views (depending on your room). I would definitely stay here again.

Pulito, moderno, ottima cena e colazione.
