BEST WESTERN Glenspean Lodge

This attractive country house, set in five acres of gardens with spectacular views of the Nevis Range, provides an oasis of peace and tranquility for all who visit. BEST WESTERN Glenspean Lodge is a real gem, offering superior comfort, excellent service, imaginative cuisine and attention to detail to die for! All our rooms are luxurious, but our four-posters are in a league of their own! As for location, we are just 14 miles from Ben Nevis itself, while our panoramic restaurant, bar, resident lounge and game room mean there is plenty to look forward to inside too! Internet access is available for those who want to log on before lying down, and our health center, including hot tub and sauna, makes for a truly relaxing experience here in Fort William. Little wonder we were awarded the Rising Star Small Hotel commendation 2010 at the Scottish Hotel Awards, as well as two other awards, a Gold medal in Housekeeping and a second Gold medal for Real and Local food. Results! Enjoy your stay.

Visited a few years ago & used the Hotel as a base for visiting Fort William ect... Family run hotel very friendly owners when we stayed. Great selection of Malt Whiskies. Fine dining or eat at the bar. We stayed in a lovley room with a four poster bed. With a view out of our window towards Ben Nevin.

Glenspean Lodge is a beautiful and excellently staffed establishment. Whilst I cannot speak to the quality or condition of the accommodations, the service and standards of the restaurant are second to very few. Ian, our host and primary server is a wonderful personality who seems more than happy to facilitate any request you may put to him, whilst his young assistant in service was possibly one of the most polite and courteous servers I have had the pleasure to meet. Were I staying in the area longer, we would most definitely be returning.

The standard of the dishes served on the restaurants menu is evidently high, having ordered the beef steak myself I can attest that OT was certainly worth every penny (being the highest price-point on the menu). Food was served promptly and without the fanfare and circumstance that often accompanies a fine dish in a fine restaurant. Presentation of the dish was perfect and the quality of produce and competence of the chef are to my mind, without question.
I am eagerly awaiting my return next year where I shall make definite plans to pop in on Ian and pursue their new menu with unbridled glee!

We visited the restaurant as we are staying down the road in Roy Bridge. Getting there was easy, well signed at the entrance, plenty of ample parking (assuming people know how to park!). Upon arriving we went through the main entrance, but there was no one there to show us where to go. That's fine, we have to remember, there is a bar, a restaurant and a hotel to be run, it was likely bad timing. We walked into the bar area on the right, where we were greeted by a man named Ian, who appeared to be running around like a blue-arsed fly! He was very courteous though, and took as through to the restaurant and sat us at our table. The restaurant is quite clearly used as a wedding reception (looking at the decor) and was lovely and bright. We were seated in the front centre of the room with panoramic views of the Nevis Range, and made ourselves comfortable.
We were bought jugs of water and offered wine of our choice, our orders were taken. I ordered the gnocchi, with peppers and onion, in a tomato and basil sauce (and what a hearty portion!), my partner ordered the steak (again, very hearty!). Whilst waiting, we were offered bread and Scottish salted butter. The bread was very yeasty, but the butter offset that a little to make it more edible.
We ordered dessert, as the menu sounded delicious! I ordered the brandy snap basket; when it arrived, it was twice the size of anyone else's desserts and quite a bit too much for me (but delicious all the same), the ice cream was shop bought, so nothing overly special, but I'm not fussy about sweet things, personally! When requested, Ian bought our bill to the table for us. He was very welcoming and friendly, and appeared to enjoy being there. It looked like he was running both the bar and restaurant single handedly, which is pretty impressive.
Just a side note, when looking at the sample menu - there are several dishes on there from the bar menu which is significantly cheaper than the restaurant next door.
All in all, a wonderful restaurant.

This review is only for the restaurant, as we were not overnight guests of this hotel. In the middle of a long drive from Edinburgh to the Isle of Skye following a 3 hour flight, we were hungry and tired travelers when we stopped here for dinner early one evening in June. We were the only patrons so far (it was early) which meant that we got a lot of nice casual attention from the gentleman who was tending the bar. We had the ale pie and the fish and chips and both were very delicious. The pub setting was very nice and the views out the window of the garden and surrounding hills were just beautiful. Excellent visit

We stayed at the lodge for two nights while in Scotland. We had a delightful stay!. Ian and his wife and team at the lodge were gracious hosts and made us very welcome and comfortable. The room was very comfortable, clean and cozy. It had a wonderful view of the hills across the highway.

The restaurant and bar were enjoyable. The food was excellent and the selection of ales and single malts was pretty extensive and we enjoyed trying several of them.

I would recommend this as a great place to stay in the area of Fort William.

Booked the Glenspean Lodge Hotel for 3 nights to celebrate our 52nd wedding anniversary on 5th October 2015 and weren't disappointed. We were delighted with our room on the first floor and it was spotless. The food was varied and delicious with the choice of eating in two restaurants . A first class experience thanks to Ian and Suzanne.

The attention to detail from Suzanne and Ian is the best in the Highlands of Scotland. The rooms are excellent. The food was outstanding. This was a party of eight people on tour. We found Glenspean the best of all 6 hotels we stayed in across the United Kingdom.
I strongly recommend this venue to other small group organizers
I will look forward to doing business with Suzanne and Ian again

Myself and two friends came up for 3 nights to tackle Ben Nevis in May of 2009, and we had a fantastic time. The hotel is clean, charming and very relaxing. The well stocked bar, restaurant and games rooms made the stay a pleasent respite inbetween our climbing on the mountains!

A huge thanks to Ian and Suzanne who made our stay as comfortable as possible and kept us talking into the night about the area, the wildlife and the tourists!

Breakfast is fantastic - however the evening bar menu was a little fussy.

We'll be back later in the year!
