Don't be fooled by the hype it's mediocre. Just an old farmhouse and the rooms weren't worth the money x

Overall pretty good. Room was exceptionally clean, with a very comfortable bed, and well presented. Bath ran fast, and was lovely and deep.
Some issues to work on. Chef was sick, so needed to eat elsewhere. Really quite disappointed after a 7 hour journey. Staff not very knowledgeable about country park walks (its literally right next door, went on an adventure and found it ourselves)
Given that you've no air conditioning and a fan costs less than a pound per week to run all night I would recommend adding them, at least to your executive rooms. The extreme heat just makes everything else impossible, a fan would have made everything much more pleasant.

Very disappointed!
Booked for a special birthday. Had a phone call the day before advising us we could not have the 3 course meal we booked as they were doing up their kitchen. We made alternative arrangements...

I'd booked an executive suite with Jacuzzi bath yet when we arrived we had normal bath with shower over. So wasnt particularly happy about that!!

Room itself was nice but come breakfast in the morning the chef didn't turn up so we had no cooked breakfast as we were told that we would still get this!! Had an apology but no discount on room. The front of house lady sent an email to her manager but have yet to hear anything??!

Sadly won't be rushing back I'm afraid as birthday celebrations were spoilt.

This is a nice location and the staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel itself has the potential to be really exclusive but the lack of investment in the property is a concern. I appreciate that renovation is going on now but the owners of the hotel should have let the hotel get into the condition it is in today.

We went to the Cockliffe Hotel for a wedding, we arrived before check in time and were allowed in our room straight away .the staff are absolutely fantastic very hard working helpful friendly and approachable.
The whole day was structured but relaxed this was down to the staff, the times for the room turnaround from ceremony to wedding breakfast then to night time reception was excellent.
The whole place is beautiful the rooms are immaculate spacious and comfortable.
The actual wedding breakfast food was delicious .
The buffet breakfast the next morning was lovely and plenty of it. Coffee, tea, fruit juice and water were bottomless.
The grounds and building are stunning. The window frames on the main hotel need replacing but I understand there is refurbishment work being carried out.
The day was outstanding and memorable .Well done Cockliffe Hotel.

Positive: Bedroom was absolutely beautiful and was great for the price we paid.

Negative: Breakfast in the morning. Had to wait about 15 minutes to actually get a seat. Bear in mind there was only 5 tables. Staff were apologetic and took our order for tea, coffee and toast but didn't arrive for a good 10 minutes after we had sat down for our breakfast. The butter supplied was appalling, the toast was cold and the butter .. well it would of been easier to spread ice not butter. Breakfast orders were taken and waited another 15 minutes for it to come through. I had go wait 5 minutes to ask for a knife to cut my food to which it was then cold as it took another 5 minutes for the knife to come. By the point of sitting down there was myself and my partner and 2 other couples (1 couple also complained about the whole stay at this place)

I asked in a joking manor for butter that would actually be spread.. This took another 10 minutes to which the waiter said it's the best we can do. So I just left it. My bacon was not cooked and was just streaks of fat not bacon. I felt physically sick so didn't eat it. The service was atrocious! There was only us left in the breakfast room at this point. The tables were still left with empty plates from the other 2 couples and previous to us going into the breakfast room. The bananas that were also on offer were just disgusting.

On check out we made our views clear and are waiting for the manager to get back to us. The manager was available for the other couple but didn't actually see to them.

To say this hotel is a 4* I am disgusted. I have stayed in 3 star hotels which have had better service and food for the same price!! It is a real shame because the room was beautiful and the manor itself is beautiful. Just a shame about the chef who can't obviously cook and the staff which aren't trained in waiting on their guests or in customer service.

Not returning - Lovely place ruined by the breakfast and service in the morning which was shocking. Food didn't seem to be cooked properly and the fruit wasn't looking so fresh. It took a while to get seated because the breakfast room was so small it couldn't fit many in and tables were not getting cleaned after guests were leaving. The toast came out cold. The butter was hard as a brick. My partner had not been given a knife to cut through his meal. It took 10 mins for them to sort this out. The bacon didn't look like it was cooked properly. It felt a very lack lustre performance from the staff in the morning. The room itself we couldn't fault. But when paying for the room with breakfast included you expect it all to be correct which unfortunately it wasn't. What a shame.

We went to view the hotel as we are looking at wedding venues. It's in a beautiful location with lots of trees and greenery but currently the hotel is a bit run down. However, they are in the middle of renovation works and the completed bits look really good.

Everyone was so so polite and professional. The house was stunning and as a photographer this gave me endless backdrops and locations to take some great photos at a recent wedding. Its wonderdul!

5

Beautiful hotel that's off the beaten track. Attended a wedding here and although it was lovely and the food was beautiful the service was lacklustre in places and they were definitely understaffed in some areas. I had access to one of the bedrooms and although beautiful, it was definitely tired. There is huge potential in this hotel and they're working on it but there's definitely more work to do. I look forward to returning to see the improvements they make.

Beautiful setting, but parts of the house looked unfinished/building site. Also bar staff were very slow, totally lacking in any knowledge about drinks (poor selection anyway) and a little rude to be honest.

Friendly, helpful staff, comfortable beds and great breakfast. Stayed as part of a group and personally I am not a big fan of country house / shabby chic, so not my preferred style of hotel. Still, a very enjoyable stay in a nice location next to a country park.

Went to wedding luvly location. Absolute rubbish service at the meal. Waiters didn't know what they were doing. Evening guests arrived before dessert. Manager in charge was useless. If it were my daughters wedding I would have wanted a refund

Recently spent 2 nights here for a friend's 60th . A charming place which could do with updating but I understand it is a listed building so plans have to be approved. My only complaint would be that our room [No 6] smelled rather musty and the curtains were seriously ripped and dusty. Also the unfortunate matter of the cess pit needs to be sorted; not a very nice odour whilst posing for photos/having a drink outside! Shame.
Our 2 breakfasts were excellent and the bar staff on the party night were fun, friendly and very helpful. Delightful surroundings.

They couldn't find fault with anything. thankyou all at The Cockliffe it was the perfect gift for me to give them.

I went to a family wedding here, was a lovely location. The hotel is quite small but beautifully presentated. One staff member was quite rude at times. Meals were lovely. Drinks very espensive! £17 for 2 double dissaranos & coke. We ran out of cash :). They state on the website that all rooms have a jacuzzi, my cousins room didnt. The beds in the most rooms are rather small, 3/4 beds. Also our room & 2 other familys rooms were extremly warm. We left window open at night, but one min hot n then too cold! Didnt sleep too well. Also left a few toiletries out, and beverage tray not stacked properly. But we took our own toiletries anyway & hotel were happy to provide extra. If the beds were a double i would deffinately stay again, lovely experience.
