Interesting conversion of an old military school, should have just done 4 floors instead of 5. Least comfortable bed I've had at a hotel. Weird area in town too.

We happened to get deal, but even for the price we paid, I was very disappointed. The place needs a redo really bad. It has a very musty old smell. The thermostat controller in our room looked like the original from the 50's and would have liked the room to get a little cooler. The atrium is pretty cool, but again, needs an update. I would have been really upset if we had paid regular price for the room we had. The people at the front desk were very nice and accommodating, especially since there wasn't any daily room service due to COVID. We had to get fresh towels, coffee, etc every day from the front desk. The location was okay.

This is a very nice hotel. Good location in walking distance to great shopping and restaurants. Parking is not free. The rooms are spacious and updated. The staff has all been very friendly and helpful. Would stay here again.

Completely immersed myself in the old-world southern charm of this historic hotel. The ultra professional staff were attentive and knowledgeable. Delicious breakfast and quaint rooms. Walking distance to many local hangouts and convenient to all beaches. A perfect stay to make you feel like royalty.

The facilities are tired and dated. The building is old, but that doesn't mean the bathroom should be falling apart.

The staff makes this hotel! The front desk, the doormen, the breakfast staff...the only one we had a problem with was the bartender. On vacation, we don't want to hunt for a bartender or have to wait 10 minutes for her to come back from who knows where. They had to keep "finding" her for us.

I recommend they update the rooms, hire a bartender, and give a tour on the history of the building. I would have liked to see some more history on the historic building.

Beautiful and historic building, but small things were not right. There was a used water bottle in our refrigerator upon arrival. We purchased the romance package, which was supposed to have a king suite with jetted tub, but we had a queen suite with standard tub. To their credit, they took care of us with a small refund, but it was still a disappointment. We also had 1 p.m. checkout with the package, but our key cards stopped working at 11:00. We had to visit the front desk to get back into our rooms and have them authorize our room keys for another two hours. This has the potential to be a fantastic hotel, but lack of attention to detail is holding it back.

My niece & I stayed 4 nights at the Embassy Suites Historic Hotel the weekend before the 4th of July. It was not my first choice since the other hotel in the area was booked. I have previously stayed at several Embassy Hilton Hotels. This by far was the worst. The room smelled very musty and stuffy. When we arrived they were still trying to prepare our room and it was after 4pm. The next morning we put a 'do not disturb' sign on the door
which we removed around 11:00am. No one came back to make up the beds after that time. The room was very depressing. Most hotel rooms you can feel the freshness once the room has been cleaned. Even the elevator windows were dirty. If someone is looking for breakfast and a cocktail reception this may be the place to stay. However, I could not in good conscious recommend this hotel. The best part was the staff who made us feel welcome. If it wasn't for the staff I would have given 1 star.

Staff was Very accommodating and the suites were large. However, the beds in
the double rooms were quite small. It was hard to sleep 2 people in that bed. Great location. Good breakfast. Small pool.

Overall.....pricey, but ok. However, we were not told that our room would not have any routine housekeeping after the first day. The one and only small garbage pail was over-flowing and wet towels needed to be removed. Also - our room door was left open after cleaning was done. The free drinks are nice, but the "light snacks" - not so much. The hot tub has no canopy protection from the unbearable sun, and could be cleaner. The hot breakfast was nice.

There's good and bad. It being a Hilton I expected greatness. If you are disabled it can be a little rough. There's only one entrance into the hotel. if you park in the garage and have difficulty walking it can be quite tiring. The suites are on the smaller side and ours wasn't the cleanest. The homeless sleep in the park beside the hotel so if you wander out early or late be careful. Now the staff were very friendly. Everyone was great. The pool is decent sized clean and towels are provided...I liked that. The breakfast was pretty good...can't go too wrong with buffet bacon!!! Free cocktail time was nice as well. If it was cleaner and had better access from parking to room I would have rated higher.

Not quite up-scale but certainly an historic building--it housed the original Citadel military college. With that history come some awkward realities: a Mezzanine floor with rooms with low ceilings and no windows--avoid them. The plumbing is retrofitted so you may be in a room where the water coursing through pipes from other rooms is audible. The large interior of the main building is less than warm and the central fountain may not quite do the job it was intended to do, which is mask any echoes and ambient noise. The construction next door will finish soon, one hopes, and that may get rid of the irritating "back-up" beeps coming from the equipment being used in the street opposite the park side---they start work early. Good things: the staff try to be and are mostly attentive, the linens and beds are good, towels are the kind I like. The pool is relatively small but a good thing in a hot town. The hotel location is on the uptown end of the historic district but close to nice restaurants and the downtown can be reached by the free city shuttle bus that stops nearby. One can easily walk to leafy, antebellum neighborhoods that are just out the door and a block or two in any direction. The College of Charleston area is pleasant and nearby.

Great location within walking distance to the heart of Charleston. Located in historic Citadel, which makes for odd rooms, but nice public spaces indoors and out. Made to order breakfast, which we ate outdoors. Complimentary happy hour. Excellent staff. Wonderful restaurants in alley nearby.

The hotel was extremely interesting with a unique history. It was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It was weird to have a room without a window. I rated down one star because the building is in serious need of updating. The carpets were worn down and stained. The the wallpaper was peeling off of the walls and the paint was a bit dirty. The bath tub and toilet was a bit unstable as well. Aside from the cosmetic issues the hotel was very enjoyable and in a great location. Only 1.5 miles from the water and located in the middle of historic Charleston.

This place is awesome it's located right in Downtown Charleston close to all the shops and restaurants and pubs and bars Etc. The staff is super awesome friendly and they also have a manager special for 2 hours where you get free beer and alcohol and light snacks. The rooms are super clean and this wait staff is very friendly. It's also located in the old Citadel and very historic.

Hotel has lots of history. Citadel from long ago.

First floor rooms seem to be a little larger than upper floors. Staff is very friendly, willing to help. Breakfast was great, eggs cooked to order. Bar in evening was good. Lots of good restaurants and bars within walking distance.

This place is so cool. It is a nice place. The rooms are spacious and you get free drinks. Also, you get food at a time when everyone needs a place to relax after a day that you walk around the city. It has a pool and all the stuff you need. I am very satisfied. 5 stars

This hotel is really unique and its historic nature as a former barracks is really quite awesome. The staff that work here are very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. I love how eager they are to help, really great attitudes, a real standard for how hotels staff should be. The room had a lot of historical quality from its former days. The place is laid out like a fort. I really awesome authentic feel. I love how you can close off the bedroom from the living room area in the hotel room, so that way someone can say, stay up and watch television, or hang out with friends, without bothering the other person. It's a great place to be brought by a rickshaw to after a great night on the town. I genuinely had a really amazing time here.

Nice hotel overall, clean and quiet. Breakfast was good. Valet parking guys were super nice as was all the staff I encounter. But the double bedroom in the suite is much smaller than pictures led you to believe. Both beds were pushed up against walls, no walking space at all for those sides and no space to move them. There is no closet, so only an armoire to hang clothes and very little extra space to put suit cases. I cannot image sleeping 4 comfortably in there. I picked my room prior (although that is not the room I got) so I could see out onto the park, thought that would be a nice view. The view from my room and the three others I saw (when I had to keep finding housekeeping as my keys never worked right) was accessible only by climbing onto one of the beds and looking out the half window that was positioned near the head of that bed. I gave 4 stars as the hotel is located in the heart of the historic district so a short walk to most places. I would stay again, just wouldn't be fooled by the pictures depicting larger sleeping areas.

This hotel has charm and history. I think they should make some of that history available. The service staff was great. Very clean and friendly. The rooms need some updating, though. As an older structure, the room is missing handy electrical outlets and newer amenities. Slightly run down. Always important, the bed was not as comfortable as I have come to expect at Embassy. Again, very friendly, great staff, great breakfast...need to upgrade their coffee selection to a better collection from Royal Cup. They have better coffee available. Overall, it was very nice; however, I will likely try a different property on my next visit to Charleston. So many great options there.

The staff is incredible here. Location and the amazing welcoming and friendly staff are the reason for the 3 stars. Two stars off because of the extremely dated infrastructure. This location needs a serious renovation. The room had multiple mold issues, a permanent wet spot under the AC unit, and a non stop leaky faucet. If Hilton brings the infrastructure up to date, this will be the place to stay in Charleston.

one of a kind of place to stay at. The historic location converted into a hotel that paying general public can enjoy.Hotel cleaning needs to be managed well. Found hair and stains on pull out bed. Bathroom needs to be kept while also. Number of towels need to match the number of residents allowed in a room. We had three towels for four Max in the room. This could be one of the best place you could stay in Charleston, If everything is managed well. We pay good money for rooms and expect better than Days Inn quality. Breakfast was good. And NY set up and Ambience is good. Very unique. While a service was excellent. All the staff we're extremely friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.

I can get passed the fact that the hotel needs some freshening up. I think that adds to the charm of this historic building. The evening reception was nice and the breakfast in the morning was better. The hottub was nice on a cool November evening. It's walking distance to most places downtown. I am a little disappointed, however. I booked a double room with no windows for the exposed brick. My wall was textured stucco. Don't advertise those rooms if that's not what you're going to give guests.

I attended the Embassy Suites hotel for a modeling casting call. The hotel has a beautiful entryway and event rooms. They have their own parking garage. I did not stay in a room there so I can't speak to that, but I enjoyed the parts I did see. It is in a great location in downtown Charleston near king street and marion square.

This was by far the nicest and coolest hotel I've ever stayed at! The fact that you get to stay in a historical building is super cool! The field outside is super nice and pretty. It's right in the middle of downtown so everything is easily accessible. My husband and I stayed for our anniversary and they gave us a complimentary bottle of their nicest wine! They serve free made to order breakfast that was delicious and they also serve complimentary cocktails every evening! The staff was FANTASTIC! We came back to our room one night and someone had smoked in the street outside our window so it smelled like smoke and they immediately gave us a new room and covered our valet services for our stay! They definitely go above and beyond! I would HIGHLY recommend!

Great people working here; wonderful and free happy hour. Lots of history, very old, heating-air system has no temp controls.... just warmer/cooler. Breakfast, made-to-order eggs was another plus. Coffee was excellent! Queen beds would be better, but we survived with doubles. Thanks for the memories!

The staff at this hotel is unbelievable. Lauren at front desk, bell men, breakfast/cocktail hour staff and concierge are top notch. One employee helped me carry in coolers and offered to fill them with ice and carry them back to the car. Lobby is beautiful, although rooms themselves are a little dated. I have never seen a free hotel breakfast quite like this: made-to-order omelettes, biscuits & gravy and so much more. Coffee offered around the clock and draft craft beers at happy hour. Building itself isn’t spectacular, but the hotel staff makes up for that with excellent customer service!

I have NEVER written a review before but I had to comment on our experience since 3:30 this afternoon. The customer service at this hotel is unbelievable. The valet gave us a cart with a flat tire....he was so kind to give us free valet parking for our stay. Totally unnecessary but he did it anyway. Then I was in the gift shop with my daughters. My youngest was begging for a book and I said “no”. A few minutes later one of they young men working here brought her the book. He said, “ I saw how much she wanted it”. My compliments to the management of this hotel. I am in management myself and I appreciate hard work and dedication. kudos.... I will stay here again.

Very cool building with tons of history, conveniently located close to shopping, dining and sightseeing (walking distance). The beds and linens are normal Hilton high-quality. The hotel is located conveniently located walking distance to many restaurants and shops, a park is next door with a weekend market, the children's museum, and other entertainment venues. There is complementary breakfast and drinks at the bar. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. We had a room on the mezzanine and it was spacious but in need of some work. There are stains in the carpet, the toilet paper holder is crooked, and the decor is lacking. When water drains from above rooms, it is very noticeable from the drain pipes in the walls. Our shower curtain was not properly attached but they fixed it immediately and also changed our shower head.

Enjoyable stay everyone was nice from the front desk to the ballet. Rooms were clean and this lots of food options around. Here's a little tip. If you want more space get one of the rooms without a window. I know it sounds strange but you won't notice there's no window, and it's lots more room.

This Embassy Suites was one of the best we had ever stayed in. The rooms were clean, the hotel was updated, and the staff was very helpful. We stayed here for one night and we loved it. It was great to open the door to the lobby and feel the cool air and smell the nice clean smell. The folks at the front desk were very helpful since we got there early. We enjoyed our room quite a bit.

Breakfast was very good. The made-to-order omelets were done on a griddle, so they weren't as fluffy as I would have liked. Nevertheless, it was still good.

We had a great experience here. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay near downtown Charleston.

The room was very dated for $400 a night. I also thought there was more nightlife closer to the hotel. The service was top notch and the people were very friendly. Perfect location for walking up/down King St to all the food! It is an old historic building. Keep that in mind as it is not the fanciest and/or flashiest place but it is still a nice place. Our room was facing the square (which has a market on Saturday mornings! Do the valet service over the self park as it will save you money over the stay. We didn't really need the car at all though because the walkability from here is great!

With a friendly, helpful staff, the Embassy Suites is a great place to stay. The location means you can easily walk around historic downtown Charleston. The building itself is an attraction as it was the original location of the Citadel. They have a nice evening reception and a great breakfast, including made to order omelets. We had a few complaints. Being an older building there isn't much insulation from noise. So you can hear everything outside. That's a big one for us. Two minor issues. The gym isn't really a gym. A handful of weight balls and two machines? We were only there one night, so it wasn't a huge issue. The other minor complaint, too much furniture in the bedroom. Felt very cramped. Had trouble just finding a place to drop our shoes. The oversized armoire is completely unnecessary. One suggestion, too. A power strip on the desk would be nice. Always a hassle having to reach over furniture for an outlet. Something with both a walk socket and usb would be great.

The room was tired and needed a refresh. The bathtub was corroded. The vanity damaged. Light burnt out in bathroom. No desk light or electric plugs by the desk. The window in the room was at a strange height and made you feel like you were in a basement. They forgot to clean the room one day. Parking is odd. Valet parking is uncovered yet self parking across the street is covered and costs less. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Location is good.

Room was cramped. They need to make it one king bed instead of two doubles. I'm pretty sure there was black mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. Construction on a building behind the hotel started at 6:30 a.m. The made to order omelettes in the morning were fantastic. Stayed in room 322.

Was initially impressed with the entrance and lobby area of the hotel. Big spacious bright and well kept.
However in our room the sink in the bathroom was falling away from the counter top. Someone came to look at it and said it needed to be fixed. They were able to move us but not until the next day. Was told the sink would be OK til then.
Someone else was at the front desk complaining that their sofa was not clean.
For the cost of staying there, the rooms should be in tip top shape.
It was close to everything so we were able to walk to everywhere. The people at the hotel were most accommodating. The breakfasts were great and the happy hour was OK.

I have stayed at this location MANY times when visiting Charleston. I absolutely love the staff and the location of this hotel is wonderful. You are within walking distance of great food and shops in the heart of Charleston. It is very clean and well maintained. I recommend this hotel to anyone.

Took the kids for spring break in 2013 and had a great experience. Hotel has tons of historic character and is walking distance to everything. Great breakfast buffet was included. Had a minor issue and was impressed with how they handled it. Room and common area furnishings were nothing special. Our room on the first floor had an exposed brick and timber wall which was gave the room a great feel. Definitely would stay there again.
