Certifications

EU Organic Label

EU organic farming is an overall system to manage a farm and produce food, while ensuring the following: best environmental practices, high level of biodiversity, the preservation of natural resources, high animal welfare standards. These are the main principles that have to be translated into concrete production methods such as multi-annual crop rotations, the use of livestock manure as a fertiliser and growing only what the farm can naturally yield. It is also essential to encourage natural resistance to pests and diseases in both crops and livestock. It is encouraged to have suitable habitats for the benefit of the animals to help control pests in a natural way. It is also important to provide access to quality feed and free-range pasture to maintain the health of the animals.

ANIMAL WELFARE
Awareness of animal welfare issues has been growing in recent years. Under the Lisbon Treaty of 2009, which acknowledges that animals have feelings, the EU and its members must take animal welfare into account in all agricultural, fisheries, transport and research policy.

Organic principles and regulations are also designed to ensure that animals are treated humanely. There is a ban on inflicting any avoidable pain or suffering. Requirements include the following.

Breeds
To ensure that animals are healthy, EU rules require the use of breeds that are robust, able to adapt to local conditions and disease-resistant. This is why indigenous breeds and strains suited to specific environments are preferred.

Feed
The feed given to livestock should enhance their health and wellbeing. Organic farmers use organic fodder that is good not only for growth and output, but also for health and welfare.

Feed must not contain any substances that artificially promote growth, synthetic amino acids or genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Living conditions
There are strict rules on the way in which animals are housed. The number of animals kept in one space must be appropriate to guarantee their comfort. Moreover, they must have access to natural air and light, and must be able to go outdoors.

Tethering animals is not allowed unless it is essential for safety, welfare or veterinary reasons, and then only in individual cases.

Health and disease prevention
Keeping animals healthy and contented is one of the key principles of organic farming. This entails taking account of different species' particular needs.

Organic farming strengthens animals' natural defences, as it provides them with suitable high-quality feed, regular exercise and free-range access to appropriate pasture.

Freedom from pain
Organic farming ensures that any suffering is kept to a minimum throughout the animal's life.

When animals are transported, their welfare must be guaranteed and travel times must be kept as short as possible. The use of any type of electrical stimulation or allopathic tranquillisers before or during loading and unloading is strictly forbidden.

Slaughter methods are designed to be as quick and painless as possible.

ENVIRONMENT

The respect for the environment is an intrinsic part of organic agriculture. Organic farming is a method of food production that combines best environmental practices, a high level of biodiversity and the preservation of natural resources.
Organic farmers in the European Union are obliged to respect nature's systems and cycles; ensure the health of the soil, water, plants and animals; contribute to a high level of biodiversity. Organic farmers also make responsible use of energy and natural resources, such as water, soil, organic matter and air.

Soil is arguably one of the earth’s most important - yet often neglected - natural resources. It is essential for life on earth because it nurtures plants, which in turn provide food and oxygen for humans and animals. Organic farmers respect the value and importance of soil by carefully monitoring what they put in and take out of it and how their activities affect its fertility and composition.

Biodiversity: It is a general principle of organic farming that every living organism should be held in high regard: from the tiniest micro-organism living in the soil to the mightiest tree towering above it. For this reason, every link in the organic food supply chain is geared towards maintaining and, wherever possible, increasing the diversity of plants and animals. Practices that contribute to high levels of biodiversity are often the result of good farming practice, as well as of the EU organic farming Regulation.

Water: Organic methods contribute to retaining water resources and maintaining the high quality of these water resources.

Landscape: All agricultural activity invariably involves modification of the natural environment; however, organic farming attempts to reduce this as much as possible, so that organic farms essentially blend into the surrounding landscape and respect it.

Clean rooms, helpful staff. We checked in at about 9pm with no problems.
Some of the outdoor areas are a bit messy. (Quite a lot of cigarette ends outside my room) i was given one of the updated rooms for my stay this time. Alot better than the older ones but even so if you get an older room for the money it is very good value.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. Value for money and location is great
