Hotel Victoria

Route de Caux 16, CH-1823 Glion, Switzerland Access

Hotel Victoria

Our guests dont come to the hotel- they come to our home. The welcome afforded by Toni and Barbara Mittermair comes naturally to them. You are here in their home- on the banks of Lake Geneva- with the snowy mountain peaks as the backdrop. A panorama which the couple fell in love with 30 years ago and which inspired Jean-Jacques Rousseau to write his novel- The New Heloise. In the restaurant- Toni and his team create simple cuisine inspired by the south- such as the rack of Sisteron lamb with herbs accompanied by straw potatoes and ratatouille nicoise. A masterpiece.

This one of the last relais & châteaux around. I mean don’t get me wrong there a plenty but only a few still has that spirit. From the moment you push the main door, you know you are somewhere special, a true cosy and real luxury feel. Now the jewel of the Victoria is it’s amazing terrasse overlooking Montreux and lake Geneva. The food is classy and carefully balanced. My favorites were the mushroom casserole and the rack of lamb (cooked to perfection). The star of the show is the dessert menu. Their soufflé is just out of this world reaching a perfection you don’t even find in Paris... the rest of the desserts are worth quite the detour as well and if you are a real foodie, asked for fresh crème chantilly with your expresso

This is one of my all time favorite places to stay. It's not the biggest or splashiest, but the all round experience of staying there is wonderful. Great view, nice clean rooms, lots of charm, and great service. First class in every respect. We felt like we made a few friends, just staying there two nights.

An unexpected plus is the great restaurant in the hotel. I've become used to hotel restaurants being an afterthought. This one isn't. It helped make our stay extremely pleasant.

Many thanks to everyone at Hotel Victoria! We'll be back whenever we get within a day's drive!

Perfectly perched on a hilltop overlooking snow-capped mountains and the lake, this hotel makes you feel like a spoilt rich royal. The building itself looks more like a well decorated house and less like a hotel. It's rich decor will spoil you, the excellent staff will spoil you and will keep you from getting off of the couch and exploring the outdoors. In the odd event you manage to get out of the hotel, the Funicular and the train station to Montreux Gare is a 4 minute walk (The hotel gives you free tickets for the Funi, Busses and the local trains operating in the Montreux region. You can't go wrong with Victoria.

Third time at hotel victoria and it is was a real pleasure. It is like being on the film set of down town Abbey. The hotel is very well maintain and has a lot of charm. The staff is very friendly and competent. We always have our dinner there and the food is excellent, very well prepared and tasty. The view from the room and the garden are amazing. I can highly recommend.

This hotel is absolutely breathtaking in an old world sort of way. As you walk thru the majestic entrance, the floor creaks under your feet, it feels like an old Victorian mansion and you get swept up in the romance of it all. And then you step into the dining room and look out at the lake and mountains. Wine list was quite pricey but we found a nice full body 2011 Clos Des Abbayes. Food was 4-star, everything else was 5-star. Fantastic. Romantic. If we weren't staying at the Fairmont during the jazz festival, we would stay at Hotel Victoria.

This is one of my favourite vintage hotels. It has not changed for the past fifty years. This means it has an old world charm and if you have an appreciation of the past forgotten era of elegance, this is the place for you! I say with the utmost respect, an Agatha Christie thriller could be filmed here without the need to change anything! It is family owned and operated and it is reflected in the quality and attention to detail.

Rooms overlooking the lake are definitely worth the extra money. The food is incredibly delicious, classic and rich in calories so be careful. My favourite indulgence is the cheese cart. The level of service in the dining room is beautiful and your food is served from silver platters onto your plate by the waiters in white classic waiter jackets. I have always put on a few kilos during each stay, but I'm never unhappy, It's always worth it!

The level of service from the staff is great, and is possible because the hotel is small and they learn your name and always address you accordingly. Going there for a few days is always a treat and I hope you give them a chance.

Very beautiful hotel with excellent view of Lake Geneva and the Alp. The hotel is old but very well maintained and very classic European style. Beautiful garden, outdoor pool and tennis court with lake view.

When we checked out, the hotel owner also greets us to our car with a nice box of chocolate as a gift, very personable.

Dining there is an exquisite experience. The view from over the mountain is awesome. The setup of the whole place takes one back in time and into the Victorian era style.

I have known this hotel since it was restored by the present owner in the early 70's and returned ever since. The view is unique, the garden well kept with fine old trees, the cuisine of a high standard and the fois gras, my favoured dish, served with home made brioches, a treat. The old fashioned interior reflecting the Victorian times when the English came, gives that feeling of seclusion, so many of us are looking for.

A faithfull client.

We had lunch outside on the veranda. Great atmosphere, quiet, with a view on the lake and the Alps. The food was also very good, the Swiss veal was exquisite, and we enjoyed the soufflé.
