I wanted to share my bad experience at the Quito Marriott. I've stayed at numerous Marriott hotels in diverse locations such as London, Prague, Vienna, Washington DC and even the one located at Zizur Mayor! I've never had a negative experience and would rate my stays as five stars.

Today after walking throughout downtown Quito, I was craving a good Bloody Mary-- why not the Marriott bar? I'm not staying at the hotel and this review in no ways reflects on their quality rooms.

As I walked in, I asked the first employee where the bar was, he stated that it opened in 5 minutes, 4 pm. I said thanks and stated I would wait in the public area. My companion and I looked into the gift shop briefly but then sat down in the lobby. As I was making a business call on my cell, my companion was approached by an employee who brusquely stated to her, that we needed to leave the premises of the hotel or enter the bar.

This one employee suddenly made all my prior great Marriott experiences feel cheapened. I was being treated like a vagrant who should be tossed out. This employee was different from the first employee who told me the bar would open in 5 minutes but he obviously knew what I intended to do. I had just been in the public lobby of this Marriott for a total of perhaps 10 minutes when my companion was confronted. I sincerely believe she would not have been treated like this if she a were white, blue eyed, "Gringa," instead of Latina.

We complained and the guest relations manager, Andrea, was nice enough to apologize excusing the employee as being too security conscious. However, we were never "sneaking" into any non public areas and thought this security excuse for racial profiling to be flimsy in the general public area.

We had our drinks. They were fine but just a little too much lemon, a bit sour for our stomachs. The employee who tried to kick us out was a bit to sour for our dignity too. So as someone who loves Marriott hotels, I may still visit other venues but certainly not the Quito Marriott.

I love Marriott. They are the best hotels. This J.W Marriott is very nice and in a perfect location. The hotels staff was very kind and nice. The rooms are very clean and big. I would recommend getting the Executive Lounge because it is definitely worth it.

Having spent 10 days on a Galapagos Island cruise and then flying back to Quito, the JW Marriott Quito was amazing.

After our Galapagos Island yacht cruise, my best friend and I were totally open to exploring Ecuador. We did not have any reservations or set plans. While having dinner with a couple we met while on our cruise I called the Marriott in Quito and was able to book 2 nights within 5 minutes. Upon arriving at the hotel, the staff and concierge went above and beyond to accommodate the two of us. Our original plan was to stay and explore Quito for two days then head to Quilatoa, Banos, head South basically. I fell in love with the staff and room at the JW Quito and decided to extend our stay for an additional 4 days. One morning we asked the front desk & bellhops the best way to get to the Equator and they put us in touch with one of the VIP drivers they use regularly. He was hands down the best driver in the area; friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, & a speed demon!!! Despite our language barrier we explained to him our plan to travel south and if he knew of the best way to go about it. He then said that he would take us to Quilatoa and pick us up the following day, given the distance and roads - he told us a fair price. When possible, I always try and stay at Marriott properties - 99% the experience is amazing and the JW Marriott in Quito was immaculate and I definitely recommend staying here for anyone in the area!!!

Outstanding hotel experience. Breakfast was very good. Pool is very nice. Spa and gym are clean and well equipped. Employees go out of their way to serve customers. Special thanks to Erika who worked very hard to find gym equipment to work my injured hip. An overall great experience . Prices could be re-examined, in my opinion they are higher than necessary.

Stayed on the 5th floor, room was updated and nice. Hotel sent us a shuttle to the airport but it runs about $50. Bed was comfortable and not too hard like most hotel beds in Ecuador.

Elegant and comfortable, welcoming. Bilingual staff is very friendly and helpful. Enormous and commodious rooms, comfortable beds, fresh roses each night. The lobby and public areas are lovely and well-maintained.

We've stayed in rural hostels in Ecuador and here, and both are wonderful in their own ways. I recommend this hotel for the luxurious business trip and a rural inn or hostel for a more authentic cultural experience.

We stayed here 2 nights before and one night after a Galapagos cruise with Celebrity Cruises on the Celebrity Xpedition. Having gold status they upgraded us to have access to the club level. Every aspect of our stay was above expectation from service to cleanliness to the food. I highly recommend this hotel if you're staying in Quito!!

An excellent place for visitors. Great atmosphere, variety of restaurants and special conference rooms. Great service. The design of the building is amazing, full of light. You can go and seat in the cafeteria to eat a sweet and enjoy the place with pleasure.

Wonderful hotel and great staff, really enjoyed my stay here. The rooms are nice and clean, pretty typical of what I have come to expect from a Marriott. But I really can't thank and praise the staff enough. We were in a rush to check out and go to the airport and a few important things got left behind. The staff were great and honest and were able to rush the items to the airport before we left. Really great job. Thank you

I was pretty unhappy after we rented a suite n I always ask for quiet room, hi floor, away from elevator n received just the opposite. We should have returned to the front desk immediately but we were so tired after flying from Chicago to Ecuador we just collapsed. The Ecuadorian TSA had pulled my luggage out for inspection n make u follow a man to a little room where no one speaks English n u r made to feel like a criminal. They want u to sign forms that r in a foreign language. U r afraid u will miss your flight. We r not returning to any part of S. America. The Panamanian TSA is 10, 000 times worse. My husband's diabetic case was ripped apart 4 times. I'm sneaking all this in on a hotel review to spread the word. My husband's carry on was ripped apart 4 times. How many times must it be inspected? To repeat is to say the 1st time was not accurate. We believe they really enjoy giving Americans delays due to their smiles n laughter. We were told once we were behind security we could have water. We entered this gate n everything changed. They kept wiping down my laptop n putting the cloth in a machine n it kept beeping wrong, none of the 4 women knew what to do, n seemed to thoroughly enjoy detaining us.

8

Nice hotel but lacking in a few areas. Showers are poorly designed and don't drain properly, so you take a shower in an inch of standing water. The bathroom lacks a place to hang towels. The food in the restaurant is mediocre but the breakfast buffet is good. The floors in the rooms and the Halls are poorly cleaned. The rooms are huge, though, and service is good. Overall I'd recommend it, but it's a bit short of a truly outstanding hotel.

I had a lovely room on both my stays, the staff are wonderful. Breakfast is buffet style with many selections including a smoothie station, also ate at La Haciendo and it was wonderful, even though there was a private event going in which made the service a bit slow.

I went only for a grad party, and the service was amazing, it is easily one of the most luxurious hotels in Quito, if not the best. I don't know about the rooms or the hotel in general, but I think it would be as satisfactory as I expect.

Yes, the rooms are clean and the views are beautiful. Yes, the staff is very attentive, very professional and speaks perfect English. Yes, the rates are reasonable and the hotel is in a great location. But, the best reason to visit the Marriott in Quito is the breakfast buffet. They have an amazing assortment of local fruits and juices. Juan, who works at The Omelette Bar, can make you the type of traditional breakfast that his mother and grandmother used to make for him as a child. And the rest of the spread will probably cause you to overeat pretty dramatically, but it is well worth it. It should also be mentioned that if you're staying at the hotel and the evening they have a fantastic Steak House on property.

I am very sorry for this bad review, but considering that I went to have lunch at Bistro Restaurant at Marriott Hotel in Quito I had high expectations, first of all I have to say that the service was superb Hugo our waiter was very nice and kind, but the food is 1 star not at all Marriott Quality, I order a club sandwich and I'm sorry but that was not a club sandwich I send it back and they try to fix it but still was not good, my partner order a Cesar Salad and again she sent it back cause the presentation was complicared the lettuce was not slice and chicken portions were to big, it was complicated for as a customer to mix ur own salad. Marriott people I hope you can improve the food quality

Very modern large convention hotel. Rooms are very spacious with modern furnishings. Much large than a US hotel room. Every day we received a rose in our room and ladies got a rose at breakfast. Breakfast buffet was extensive with local food and European foods, both hot and cold. On site bar/restaurant for quick bites and one other restaurant which I didn't try. Location is in city center with many restaurants. The walk to the old city is very far but a taxi was $5.00. 45 minutes to the airport. Good for several nights as home base but not an overnight if you wish to catch a plane the next day. Highly recommend.

8

Very good service overall. However the executive lounge staff have room for improvement on how to deal with complaints. Very poor behaviour. Also be aware they serve dinner and refreshments at at the executive level as most of the Marriott hotels do, but this one has a catch. They serve it from 6:00pm to 7:30pm only and the only one to find out is getting late, because anybody will inform you in advance.

Top notch hotel, just a little far away from city center, Wi-Fi is quite slow for a place of this quality and be careful as they are one of the few remaining hotels that still want to charge extra (which I wasn't) for what they call enhanced hi speed internet (which is still too slow at 10mps).

Room (Junior Suite with Balcony) was great and roomy and great views

The manager was fantastic and continually tried to help my stay better.

Facilities are top notch but their Wi-Fi and location (considering how hard it is to get to historical places because of traffic) takes the stars away.

Beautiful hotel located close to the city center. Impeccable service, rooms are very modern, and the hotel has a hair salon, several restaurants and bar, as well as a travel agency on the premises. This hotel is like a mini resort! Staying here mid-week, we were able to enjoy the massive landscaped heated pool with mini bridges and waterfalls, all to ourselves. The hotel manager reached out to me ahead of time too to ask if there was anything else that he could do to accomodate me, giving this Marriott chain a nice personal feel. There's not a whole lot in the immediate surrounding area, so you'd have to travel a bit to get to the bustling part of New Town.

We stayed at the Marriott for a month with a two year old. It's a wonderful place full of huge fresh bouquets of roses, great service, and excellent facilities. The outdoor pool is heated. We swam almost everyday with steam rising from the water. There's a beautiful garden. There is a great selection of restaurants including sushi, a steakhouse, and a Mexican cafe. Everyone treated us well and all of our problems were immediately addressed. It's easy to go to Mariscal, El Jardin mall, or the Centro Historico from this location.
