Really wonderful hotel and spa. Clean, nice squishy beds, great facilities. The dinner and breakfast was delicious and the Staff particularly Beatrice were so kind and helpful. It was a real treat to stay there.

This was a lovely property which had fantastic surroundings and great layout, the rooms where suitable for a few days or more, however the lack of staff showed the stress they were under trying to sustain all the guests requirements. This showed more at weekends when other booked social events arrived at the hotel and paying guest (us) seemed to get ignored whilst they attended the events guests! To me, this just showed poor planning and management and smacked of a company trying to run a busy hotel on a shoestring, maybe this is why the staff never seemed to smile much! That said, not all of them seemed unfriendly and a certain few made a good effort. But a tired look to the place didn't help create a fun atmosphere. This place could be packed out with guests if they changed a few things, hence the three stars, real shame I really hope they improve things - as it has great potential.

On arrival we were greeted by a grumpy unhelpful member of staff. I booked the hotel over the phone, then on arrival was asked for a credit card. They wanted me to pay the full bill on credit card there and then. Eventually sorted it out, was made to feel unwelcome from the start. After that we went to the bar then was asked if i booked under a different name then was told we couldn't charge drinks or food to the room. Asked to speak to manger who then said yes we can charge it to our room. The next day, after a very overpriced mediocre lunch at the hotel, as I was heading out to the shops, another member of staff asked if I can pay for the food on credit card now. On leaving, yep-you've guessed it! We were asked to provide credit card details to pay for the room bill, After explaining several times we have debit cards. This hotel was the same as any premier inn. 4 star? I didn't think it was. Very average and overpriced. Disorganised, rude obnoxious staff.

Attended for a conference. Hotel parking was good, reception area was tidy and pleasant. Conference room was well stocked and air conditioned. Enjoyable time spent here.

The place is really magnificent, especially when the weather is good... The service at the restaurant could be much more friendly though!

Waited in front of the for long as there was no one to serve. Then the bar man came in and took his time to serve. Needed to use the ladies room. Went to the one next to the restaurant and could smell something really bad and when I closed the door realized what it was. There were stains of vomit on the wall. Saying this because I have been to this hotel many times as near my home. Every time I go in now, seems like the standard of service and hygiene is going down. Food is still awesome

Perfect stay. Breakfast, staff, bar, room, spa and pool. All was perfect here. I can't find anything I didn't like. Highly recommend if you don't need a hotel in the direct city center.

A very comfortable hotel and a good place to hold a meeting. Sadly the value for money on the salad I was served was very disappointing. My other guests arrived later but based on this tiny poor salad dish costing over £7 we went to the local canal side pub for our main meal. Shame as it's a lovely hotel. Staff are very helpful but the expression on the face of the person who delivered my over priced salad said it all really.

Lovely hotel in beautiful grounds, food was exceptional and staff very helpful. Would have scored 5 stars, but only found out from taxi driver on the last day, that the firm they use, have a standing £10 fixed fare into Oxford. As we were not informed of this, we paid a fair bit more.

If you’re looking for a really posh and indulgent little break, this place will probably disappoint. However, I really enjoyed this place for a 1 night stop over and was pleased with my choice... welcoming, organised, relaxing, pretty, great service, spacious, good breakfast, comfy rooms. The ‘Spa’ is quite tired, great for a quick morning swim, but not really a Spa by today’s standards. Price was fair, even good value.

I really enjoyed our stay, but it does depend on your expectations. Realise that you're going to stay in an old building full of character and the associated creaks and groans and not a modern state of the art hotel and you won't be disappointed. That said, the bed was ridiculously soft and the shower ran out of hot water!

The hotel itself is set in beautiful surroundings and the entrance really lovely. We were not greatly impressed with the reception staff who halfway through checking us in, saw a queue of people so rather abruptly got rid of us! In doing so they did not explain anything about the hotel or take a credit card which proved problematic for the rest of our stay when eating and having spa treatments. Not a great start or welcome. The rooms were really lovely, nicely decorated, clean and modern. The spa is small but fine. We found the changing rooms extremely small and wished we had changed in our rooms. Matt who was working in the spa was very helpful in providing us with robes and slippers. Our treatments were a mixed bag, massage was really excellent and out of 3 nail treatments only one was good. The other two were ok, one had bubbles in her dried varnish and was required to have a pedi whilst lying on a bed so not very convenient/comfortable and one had her gel varnish picked off by the technician (!) due to it not setting correctly (at other salons this would be taken off the proper way so not to potentially damage the nail). Nothing major but a shame as so easily rectified.

Birthday Lunch with a party of 12. Everyone commented on an excellent choice of options on the pre set menu. Food was very tasty and good value for money. This is one of the best location around Oxford to dine, especially for larger groups of people.

Great country house hotel. Buildings are well kept and the new additions are tastefully blended with the old. Staff are great and helpful. Bedrooms are large and we'll appointed. Had deluxe room with garden view so had view of Thames from our own patio. Breakfast buffet of hot and cold food was extensive and well made. Rooms had air con and flat screen tv. Highly recommended if you need to stay in the area.

Our party of eight spent new year at the hotels Gala dinner and dance event. I think I can speak for everybody in our party that attended and stayed overnight. All staff were very friendly, attentive and efficient and the whole experience from the food, service and entertainment to the quality of our rooms was exceptional.

I have covered a couple of weddings at De Vere Oxford Thames. It is a beautiful setting- particually the grounds. I have been lucky enough to cover outdoor ceremonies by the beautiful river on sunny days. Absolutely lovely.

Great location, well appointed rooms, and beautiful building. Food was a let down. Burger at lunch arrived with a frozen bun and steak at dinner was underseasoned and lacked flavour.

I had recently made comments about the staffing and facility's at the hotel after many years of staying there, only minor issues but sufficient for me to write a review. To my surprise and pleasure the hotel manager called me and assured me that these would be corrected on my next visit and I have to say they have lived up to their promise... well done to all for a great stay!!

Excellent hotel. Staff, food, drinks and rooms were lovely. Spa could do with upgrading the loungers. Beautiful setting and would love to visit again. The lady manning the spa reception was also very attentive and helpful. Not sure of her name. I visited at around 5pm and she is a credit to this hotel.

This is a nice hotel with friendly and efficient staff. The food was on the whole excellent with a good selection for the buffet breakfast. My only issue was the room was by the carpark and people looked in as they past so had to keep curtain closed at all times. Could have used a net curtain or blind of some kind to let in light whilst maintaining privacy. We will stay here again and would recommend staying here. Easy access to oxford from bus stop outside front gate.

Eight of us attended for lunch on a Sunday. There were two other tables booked in the restaurant. We had to send the soup back as it was cold, then those of us who had the roast beef (five) had to send it back as it was also cold. The waitress was most apologetic and once sorted we did enjoy the food. 20% was knocked off the bill without asking. Not the best experience and we will not be returning for a meal. That said, I would possibly attend the hotel to use it's other facilities.

The rooms and hotel itself were amazing. The grounds were beautiful. First time in the UK so not sure if this location was a good one, but it was easy to get to from the train station. Food wasn't anything to write home about, but variety and quantity was good.

Lovely village location, walking distance of pubs and village green. Nice hotel grounds to wander, leading down to the river. All very peaceful. Staff a little sleepy, occasionally need geeing up to get info from. Room and food perfectly adequate. Swimming pool tiny... You need to swim in shifts and avoid bumping into each other. Otherwise, a fairly reasonable hotel, close to Oxford.

The general manager is great and listened to our complaints about the hotel.

Overall it's a nice hotel and the rooms are cozy. Some of the staff is very friendly especially around the dining area.

The restaurant is really great! The room service could be a bit better.

The gym and spa area could use some renovation and remodeling. Could be cleaner too.

A very nice experience all round, great service with fantastic grounds down to the river. We had a party of 5 and ordered a few different meals, the only complaint could be we had to wait an extra 5 minutes for our roast potatoes but overall the food was nice.

The hotel operation is pretty much flawless and definitely 4-star-plus. We were immediately upgraded after some confusion with a Secret Escapes booking, entirely on the manager's initiative. Beautiful lobby space, a lovely setting and *very* comfortable room. Dinner and breakfast were both very good, although FoH was friendly but disorganised. The spa is this hotel's weak spot - it's in dire need of a refresh, badly laid out and the staff aren't welcoming.

Beautiful hotel set in fantastic grounds right by the Thames. I only went in the day time, as a delegate, so I did not get to stay there, as an overnight guest or dine. But as a meeting venue it was fabulous, helpful staff, sunny airy meeting rooms with a fabulous outlook over the river, excellent refreshments including delicious freshly baked cookies and good coffee plus a generous selection of teas There is a old hall which has the reception desk, and galleried seating areas, with a timbered roof, and open fires which is very impressive, if you like historic buildings it's worth going to see. It is set in lush green grounds, and I imagine it's a great place to stay.

The location of the venue is quite nice, close to a main road yet still quiet. The rooms are convenient and well equipped, albeit on the smallish side. The service is great, however the restaurant was a bit too busy. Food is great, portions are reasonable, prices are available for the class.

I really can't understand negative reviews for this hotel and will give an honest opinion of my stay .
I found very little to find fault with - clean and spacious room , quiet location , grounds and garden beautifully kept , staff polite and friendly . The buffet breakfast had plenty of choice and was well prepared and never too busy. Bar meals again were good and served quickly at a reasonable price . The bar prices were a bit steep but you don't have to drink , I had one pint instead of two. All in all a very pleasent experience.

We were celebrating our 20th Anniversary and could not have chosen a better place to spend it. Beautiful rooms and gardens. At Dinner the team dressed the table for our anniversary and we felt like royalty. They made our stay very special and faultless!! Dinner was wonderful. Octavian the Restaurant Manager, Shawn one of his team and others were attentive at all times.and made our evening very special :) The chef even arranged to put aside some black pudding that my husband enjoyed at dinner as his breakfast treat! A great venue for a romantic weekend..Swimming Pool was lovely too. We will definitely visit again this year. Big thanks to all there.

We have just returned from a two night Xmas break at this hotel. Apart from the unnecessary loud entertainment on Xmas Eve, (We found a lounge far enough away from it!), this hotel was absolutely splendid in all other ways. Staff were so friendly. Food was excellent and plentiful. The building itself so inviting. This was our second Festive Break at this hotel and certainly won't be our last. We won't hesitate to recommend it to others. It's a quality place in beautiful surroundings!
