Property's Green Action
For maximum sustainability, Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam invested in a full upgrade of the HVAC installation and replacement of most hotel windows with monumental double-pane glass. The HVAC upgrade consisted of the installation of a new WKO 130-meter deep mono-well with heat pump installation, a completely new Fancoil system in the rooms and corridors, an upgrade of the Air-handling units with heat recovery systems, sustainable water boilers and sustainable insulation of the hotel roof. This major investment resulted in a significant decrease of the energy consumption and resulted in the Gold certification of the Green Key standard.
The Green Key Award is the leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry. This prestigious ecolabel represents a commitment by businesses that their premises adhere to the strict criteria set by the Foundation for Environmental Education. Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam is proud to have the highest level of the Green Key standard: Gold.
In 2017, the kitchen team of restaurant Bridges of Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam decided to start an urban rooftop garden. Several garden beds and a greenhouse were realised on the roof of the hotel. Before being planted in the garden beds, seeds are first planted in the greenhouse and reared to little plants until they are strong enough to survive outside. Kale, herbs, strawberries, lettuce and other vegetables are grown on the rooftop and used in dishes and cocktails. The fresh vegetables are used in dishes and smoothies for the staff canteen and restaurant Bridges. The freshly grown herbs are often used in cocktails served in Bridges and The Flying Dutchman.

Planet 21 Silver
AccorHotels created an action plan that offered actions listed below to promote sustainable development, tailored to the hotel context. Those initiatives are structured into 4 pillars & 2 specific issues:
- PEOPLE: Raise employees’ awareness of the eco-friendly practice
- CUSTOMERS: engage guests in a sustainable experience
- COMMUNITIES: work hand-in-hand with local communities for a positive impact
- PARTNERS: co-innovate to open up new horizons
- BUILDING: Move towards carbon-neutral buildings
- FOOD: Strive for zero food waste & healthy sustainable food
Then, to go even further, each hotel selects other actions from over 60 additional initiatives. This flexible system enables it to build its own program in line with AccorHotels’ commitments, but also reflects the hotel’s local characteristics:
- Its prior level of progress on sustainable development
- Its priority areas for improvement
- The environment and local issues
A weighting mechanism establishes the action achievement level with a score that places the hotel around the higher levels. Each level marks the progress hotels are making in implementing the Planet 21 program.

• Separate waste and implementation of waste saving initiatives (including food waste)
• Avoid the use of chemical cleaning products with dangerous compounds
• Safe storage of chemical products
• Stationary and paper are environmentally friendly produced
• Implement energy-saving initiatives in guest rooms, e.g. energy-efficient light bulbs, standard-defined heating/cooling temperature, etc.
• Purchase of food/beverage products that are organic, eco-labeled, fair-trade labeled, and/or locally produced
• Avoid chemical pesticides and fertilizers in green areas

Genuinely surprised by how good this place is. Love the vibe, the lobby - Bars are GREAT and the Bridges restaurant is a special find!! Great staff all across the property. My room was especially teeny-tiny - but still, very happy. Natch - you are in a central spot...Very close to Dam Square and incredibly close to the fun/seedy side of town. So close, you can almost smell it. and by almost, I mean, you can actually smell it, if you turn right!! :)
I will file this spot under: Love.

If anyone is looking for great deals on hotels go to HotelRaven. com Booked a room on there and they had the best rates around...
I am seventy years old and I have been travelling the world on business since 1980. Over the years I have stayed in many top flight hotels. However, this is the first time I have felt the urge to write a review and I am doing so because this time everything was just right. The location in the centre of Amsterdam, the friendly service and the meals were all of exceptional quality. I felt completely at home. The only problem is that my wife came with me, and now she thinks this is how I live every time I am away on business.

Ideal location for a weekend visit to Amsterdam. The building was GRAND but the rooms were small. Minutes from the rail station. Very walkable to the red light district and shopping area.

Words can not express how grateful we will remain to the staff at Sofitel Legend. It was our daughter’s birthday - and once they knew- they pulled out every stop... from a flower to the room to a off menu dessert prepared by the executive shelf. Such kindness. Exquisite service. Thank you!

Last visit here was for the Christmas brunch. The building is stunning. The employees friendly and professional. The live music very pleasant. The food could have been a bit better though, especially for this price. For example the pasta was slightly overcooked. And we could notice there was a bit of confusion between the kitchen and the waiters. But all in all a great experience.

Everything thing about our visit was perfect. From the website search and booking to the actual stay in the hotel. Super friendly and attentive staff. Being shown to our room by the check in agent was a first and a glimpse of the classy service to come. The room sparkled and was extremely well equipped. The staff at every turn were friendly and helpful. Bridges restaurant was top notch with equally friendly and helpful staff. We'll be back to Amsterdam and will be back to The Grand.

My first time at the Legend was a fantastic experience. The staff is super attentive and was always super friendly. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try out the butler service, which was offered to me as a platinum member, as I was there for business and had no specific needs in those few hours I spend in the room.
The staff at the bar was fantastic. Its worth trying a cocktail as the bartender can make you something very special.
I have to discount the score from a 10 to a 9 as the Gym is really too small and feels very cramped, which is important for me after a days work

One of the most amazing hotel's I've ever stayed at! Every single member of the staff is committed to superior customer service; I was amazed that every time I walked through the lobby a staff member approached me to ask what they could do to help me. Every single staff member from top to bottom were fantastic. From the wonderful person that checked me in (who also asked about my Dutch heritage) who then arranged for a wonderful surprise to be delivered to my room, to the amazing host at the restaurant during breakfast. When I come back to Amsterdam with my family we will definitely be staying at your hotel!

We had a lovely stay in The Grand Hotel in Amsterdam. The hotel is well-located in a beautiful building. The staff was helpful. We were really impressed with breakfast and with the dinner we had in the hotel restaurant. The room was very comfortable, and the interest connection was reliable and quick.

We stay over 60 nights a year in hotels and expected more from this 5 star hotel. The room we were 'allocated' fell short of our expectancy and we experienced several problems both with the location of the room and housekeeping. Check in was good, we were escorted to our room, turned out to be the top floor, a long way from the elevator and overlooking the street. We discovered being in a room on the top floor meant that the eaves were a problem . We asked for a lighter weight bedding and more coat hangers,
both flung on the couch when we were at dinner. I remade the bed and put the hangers in the wardrobe.
At night the street was noisy, bathroom drains smelled. We had asked for a quiet room. Rather than have us leave, the hotel upgraded our room but did not add the extra pillows previously requested, we did not bother to request them. We had one good nights sleep. At check out the hotel gave us a gift, we would much rather have had a better Hotel experience.

our plan was to arrive in the afternoon, but we had to leave the cruise ship early, arrived at the hotel in the morning. The hotel is amazing and the staff very helpful and accommodating. Our room wasn't quite ready so they offered us a free breakfast and what a breakfast it was. The front desk staff are very approachable and had tons of information and very helpful. I would absolutely stay there again.

Hotel is fantastic, staff are so helpful its brilliant. However the breakfast which the hotel itself describes as the most important of the day has dropped since our last stay. Service on the first morning was awful, so much we walked out. Returned for the second morning and order was wrong, it was just average. Apart from that, the room was great, room service outstanding and our butler could have not been more helpful. Also a great location.

While our room was a little cramped given we had 3 of us staying in a room built for 2, it was still quite nice and comfortable. All of the staff members from the front desk to the bellmen to the restaurant were genuinely concerned with our care and comfort. The only challenge we had was one of our 2 rooms was not ready when arrived before lunch, which is understandable. But when it still wasn't ready at 4:00 pm that became a bit of an issue for us. We also had to make a couple of inquiries about the room even though we gave them our cell number to call when it was ready. Despite this small matter, the overall experience, the elegant historic property itself, the beautiful garden where we had breakfast and the perfect central location made this the perfect place for us.
Overall ok, but pricey given the size and quality of the rooms. Right next to the Red Light district in Amsterdam, which may not necessarily be a plus. Bar and patio are a little bit uninspiring. Quality of service varies quite a bit.
